Jim Irsay has admitted in interviews he’s been in drug rehab at least 15 times. It’s no surprise that a guy, whose brain is burned out on various drug, would make such a dumbass move.
Disclaimer: I have NOT watched the video yet, but in my opinion I can't see how he is worse than Urban Meyer, but gonna watch now to see if you address this. Love the content!
I haven't finished it either, but I'd say Saturday was a worse hire because Urban at least had proven he could coach at a high level in college, where as Saturday had only ever been a mediocre coach at a small high school
@@curt367Saturday was the worse hire, but Meyer was the worse coach. As bad as Saturday was, he still technically did what he was supposed to do. Interim head coaches aren’t usually expected to bring success, anyway. Meyer, meanwhile, was hired as the full-time head coach and was supposed to turn the Jags around. Not only did the Jaguars continue to suck with Meyer at the helm (they went 2-11 under Meyer), but he also managed to alienate the entire team, front office, and fanbase when word got out about the stuff going on behind the scenes. Meyer was the worse coach.
I still remember when all of this happened while living in Indiana. Colts fans were livid because Jim "Krusty the Clown" Irsay basically chose to tank the team than let Frank Reich finish out the season. I didn't care who was the coach, but it was really sad to see how Matt Ryan was ending his NFL career. I still find it wild how Matt Ryan is always on the losing end when it comes to NFL history despite Matt Ryan being a solid QB during his time in the NFL. Jeff Saturday had no chance turning around the Colts during his time as intern head coach so I felt bad knowing he got hired since it was a losing situation . At the same time, even he knew the Colts were a dumpster fire that season (Colts fans knew and felt the vibe too). That Vikings loss will forever be remembered during that season for Colts fans.
At the time, I liked it as a hire. It's easy to look back and see it as a failure. It was pretty much a culture hire. The team was lost and they needed Jeff to keep the locker room together. For the most part, it worked. The culture seems to have survived the rough times. The team is on the rise now.
Oh Boy, Nail in the coffin for Jeff Saturday was making history by blowing the biggest lead in NFL history 33-0. I remember Saturday, and Colts almost beat eagles if the defense could have gotten a final stop. Idk why the owner didn't make hire someone who was experienced on the staff as interim HC.
I think he did his job, to reset the culture and get people talking. So yeah I’d say there’s a lot of worse hires, no one, not even Saturday himself expected to win at all.
I remember how crazy this was, and it kept getting more funny every week: - Win vs Josh McDaniels - Close loss to Eagles - Saturday forgets how to manage the clock against the Steelers - Outscored 33-0 in the 4th quarter by Dallas - Blow the largest lead in NFL history to the Vikings - 20-3 beat down by the Chargers - Allow 31 unanswered points to Daniel Jones - Lost to a 2 win Texans team, allowing a 4th and 12, and 4th and 20 conversion
Still don't get why the Colts went with Jeff Saturday instead of Gus Bradley who though awful as nfl hc still had more experience. As for the 1st and only win of the Saturday era, the Raiders should've fired Josh McDaniels after that game. Another incompetent franchise who should've kept Bisaccia as HC.
Matt Ryan took the blame for trying to play for a garbage team. Matt managed to win some games himself in the fourth quarter and got his ass kicked for us
@@adamlewis5700 except Dan Campbell had a full off-season and a loosing record his first season. And Hue Jackson had the same amount of wins in 2 seasons as the Browns head coach. They were way less competitive that Saturday’s Colts.
I am by no means a Colts fan (and for the record--if we are talking worst coaching hire in football history you are REALLY down on Saturday but off the top of my head how about Urban Meyer with Jacksonville) but this is a very interesting take and when you explain it in the video it makes sense. Irsay knew he was losing the PR battle and really how better were the Colts going to get? I feel like the franchise has been snake bitten since Andrew Luck hung it up but that's neither here nor there.
Respectfully think you’re missing something. One thing about hiring Saturday was that Irsay got to walk around in his team facility & have complete access without players & especially other coaches covering for the head coach. Irsay got to see things as they were & not as a HC wanted to project which is often what naturally happens because ppl will protect their jobs & hold back at times. It also got Irsay a good draft pick.
I mean, as a Vikings fan I love this man. But man, that game. I couldn't watch the first half due to having to fly out that day and when we landed and before I checked the score, I just knew it was going to be awful. Of course, not 33-0 awful. I then spent the next 2 hours nearly having a heart attack refreshing my phone to see if we could pull it off. Watching the rerun of the game later that night through the first half, I just kept saying "How the fuck did we win this game?"
It was a F***ING insult to coaching, especially minority coaches, who have to FIGHT LIKE HELL for one of those coveted 32 slots. FYI, even if Smith knew he was going to be fire, he also knew he couldn't lose to the likes of Saturday. Too many fought for too much for that.
Irsay's brain got rattled during all the (Manning) years the NFL let the Colts play fake crowd noise on their sound system whenever the other team was on offense.
Whats another RANDOM NFL/CFB topic like this I could cover next?
Do the Hue Jackson as Browns HC or the Downfall of Jimbo Fisher.
Cam Cameron as Dolphins and IU HC. Good OC, awful head coach.
All the guys who make these are currently heading to Jax to work on their Most Overpaid Player in History video.
Imagine telling your boss you are going to be crap at your job and you still get the job anyways.
Reminds me of the movie Ted, when Ted got the promotion at his job 😂
Josh Mcdaniels begs to differ.

Jim Irsay would be a fentanyl addict living under a bridge if he wasn't the son of a multi millionaire.
Jeff Saturday was hired to tank the season and get a high draft pick. Why is this not obvious to everyone?
It was totally obvious. However, doesn't alter the fact that it was insulting to real coaches.

Hiring a guy w zero coaching experience is a good thing according to ESPN and all the Laker glazers. Looking at you JJ.
I wouldn’t say worst, but I’d say one of the most puzzling hires.
