That line actually has nothing to do with how he looks but more about how he feels. Dark, gloomy, cold, depressed! That’s one of the best lyric ever written.
I feel like this song is Cornell lamenting the fact that his outward Rockstar persona outshines his true self to the rest of the world. The fans only see the glitz and glamour, and not the fact that he has many struggles throughout his everyday life like everyone else.
The song is about Chris and his battle with depression and anxiety which he struggled with most of his life. He looked good on the outside but felt crap on the inside. Kurt on the other hand had trouble hiding how he felt on the inside. Kurt's pain is what made him so popular. He spoke to the teens who were in pain too. It was like he was speaking directly to them. I found out recently that Eddie Vedder was from San Diago not Seatle. Just like Stone Temple Pilots.
Thank you Thank you Thank you for picking this performance. I’ve never seen it before!!! Makes my heart hurt all over again that he is longer with us but I totally appreciate your reaction. LOVE IT GUYS!!
What CC does here is nothing compared to how high he can really go, a listen to Slaves and Bulldozers or Beyond the Wheel will leave you dumbfounded at his range. Halford is pure high range, Chris and Dio were pure power projection.
@@PotawatomiThunderNew Nowhere did I write" just"-I wrote Pure High Range as the dominant trait, characteristic of his voice, Rob's natural voice and tone is higher than the other two.
If you wanna hear him REALLLLLLY belt it out at this sort of age, look no further than "Beyond the Wheel" The live version is one of his stronger performances
Basically, the iconic "Feeling Minnesota" line is a reference to how sunny and nice it is in California and how miserable and depressing the weather ( and therefore the people) can get in Minnesota.
Vin, it is a marvel to see Halford live he is 68 years old and can still bring it, not as he did in his youth( that's impossible at his age), but the man is legendary for a reason.
This performance was like streaching for him, like jogging for few minutes. And he was more present, stronger singer than Halford. Than any rock singer(him and Dio). Just very special beast. And this is very very hard song to sing.
Chris Cornell had SOUL in his voice. He could sing anything and completely annihilate it. He's done covers of John Lennon, Bob Marley, and pretty much every other artist he's enjoyed, and just killed it every time. Plus Soundgarden and Audioslave killed it at one point or another, respectively. A voice doesn't come around like that too often. It's almost like his soul is popping out of his mouth and doing the singing for him.
Soundgarden where the grandfathers of grunge. They predate it all. Chris was a very down-to-earth guy as for the rest. Didn't play into the Rockstar life as much as most. Many cooed over them but he gravitated toward those who treated him normal. Those which he could chill with. He was very much about family and as much as he loves music he wanted a normal life. Thus the conflict. Shall not get into the end. Nonetheless, he is truly missed on so many levels.
Original Version for first time listen. Always. I purchased 'Badmotorfinger' on cassette the week it came out. Must have listened to it a few hundred times.
My favorite live version of this is the one where Eddie Vedder is behind Matt Cameron (drums) doing the low parts... Lollapalooza 92, I think... It’s great.
Chris Cornell is still top 3 rock singers ever in history, IMO. There are great singers out there, Robert Plant, Lane Stanley, Eddie Vedder, etc. just to name a few rock legends, but Chris is just amazing.
Yall gotta listen to the live versions of Beyond The Wheel, or Room A Thosand Years Wide....or Mind Riot from "live at the Paramount" This was AWESOME but NO WHERE NEAR ...NOT REMOTELY CLOSE to his better performances from that same era!! The audio on this live version was terrible..even if they're cool live. The studio version has to be heard as well to fully appreciate..cool artistry all round.
Only a true old school Soundgarden fan would recommend this version. Or he was at this show 😂. The LEGEND that is Chris Cornell deserves the studio version for this song. Because not only does it really show his voice and vocal power / range. But only the sheer madness of how dope the musical groove / grit in this song is

Eddie Vedder*
