    Today we're checking out Chicago95, a transformation pack for the XFCE desktop environment. It makes your system look a lot more like Windows 95. And thanks to Chicagofier, it's very straightforward to install system-wide.

    Cheers everyone for all the kind comments about Chicago95 and Chicagofier, and cheers MJD for checking both of them out.
    Remember, if you want to support this theme, support the Chicago95 project as Chicagofier wouldn't be possible without them!
    Note-worthy changes since this video:
    - Pale Moon with Moonscape theme is now an option for Firefox replacing (suggested by Chicago95's creator)
    - Keep Firefox will now give the option to install a IE4 wannabe texture (from Chicago95 directly) at the very least (also suggested by grassmunk)
    - Replace Firefox? is now skipped if Firefox isn't found
    I'll likely come back in the future to reply with any other major changes when appropriate, I guess.

    • @ThatLinuxDude
      @ThatLinuxDude 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Oh, and one more note, as a thing MJD missed (probably 'cos I didn't tell him about it):
      You'll find wallpapers and whatnot in your Pictures folder once you've ran Chicagofier.

      Why not leave Firefox untouched and install Epiphany separately with all the modifications? I don't see a reason why they would conflict, unless it's specific to how the theme is applied to the system

    • @ThatLinuxDude
      @ThatLinuxDude 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kusucks991 People probably wouldn't want Firefox installed at that point anyway, and for all I know someone might do it and not even know how to remove the browser the OS came with.
      To be fair, you can always just reinstall Firefox after the fact, anyway, from Software, if you want it, but I'd assume most would only want the single browser they use installed solely.

    The original Windows 95 design is underappriciated in my opinion. It was the last time windows had a clear and *consistent* look. It may not have been pretty, but it was fast and efficent. There was no doubt about what was clickable and what wasn't, what elements belonged to the same group, and things didn't reveal/hide themselves based on mouse hover.

      @@aiosquadron I really like design of Windows 8. Metro theme with legacy windows apps.
      Windows 10 is just modern apps that depend on half working old ones as they have been crippled. Windows 10 just doesn't look right.
      Windows 10 is kinda like a lazy teen "cleaning" his room. It looks like it's fine and working, just don't look into the wardrobe or under the bed.
      Also Windows 8 allows me a lot more control over the updates. In 10 it's all or nothing. Sure there is downloadable tool from Microsoft which lets you choose which updates you want, or at least that's the theory. When I tried it there was just 1 security update I could stop but I wanted something else anyway. Still not as detailed as Linux but better than 10.

    I'm not a Xfce fan myself but the fact that the devs keep the desktop rather consistent than trying to improve where not necessary, this Chicago95 should work for a very very very long time.

    I always liked the Rainy Day theme, particularly the Windows 98 version, because the title bar could have two colors. If I could get that, with a Windows NT 4 logon / logoff screen..........it would be awesome.

      @@supreme_xenon Its not flawless but its the next best thing to it, better QA and resolution than MS, and IF something goes wrong it tells you exactly how to fix it. Not to mention a lot more secure and a lot more privacy features.

    That animation where you flash "Dominic Hayes" on the screen was way to fast for the more compressed 30 fps versions of this vid xD it made my eyes hurt a lot at 480p

      Debian based if you want old and stable or even Fedora based if they want the latest kernels and drivers and be stable.
