The singer, Karen Young, was an incredibly soulful talent. She had the personality of a funky blues singer wrapped up in a white body moving to a disco beat. There were a lot of folks like her back in those days, before everybody got all bougie and stand-offish.

It was a minor top 40 hit in the UK at the tail end of that summer of 1978. I was only 13 then but used to hear this on the radio sometimes. Now I know what she looked like. She was 27 then and it's sad that she didn't get to see 40.

Alas, what a fleeting moment in the annals of American history this was-when the music was smokin' hot, the dance floor was filled to capacity---and, the morale was as liberating as the era that so quintessentially defined it. Rest in eternal peace, my dearest Karen Young---the ride was one of delirious rapture-to present day, hypnotic effect!

Thank you, Charles C. But, how sad that so many of the 'oh so brief' disco era that was carried by a somewhat stable rank and file (who kept the momentum strong and relevant), didn't know what they had until it was gone, baby, gone (through no fault of their own, mind you).
Now, in our post capitalist era of American Neo-Feudalism, Neo-Fascism and Neo-Bolshevism (that has been FOISTED upon the other side of the Atlantic by a 'Hijack-And-Hostage' government coup (so ordered by their corporate bought henchmen), is now completely controlled by voracious oligarchs of epic, humanitarian (and ecological) fail, where the party ended long ago---and, where taking a backward glance to an idyllic time of the disco era (and the night time madness and unique clubs that so defined it), now seems QUAINT and innocent.
Hence, I am very much allergic to all things 21st century---where the mantra, credo and edict of America's betraying-and-failed democratic government (to flag and country) is: 'Delay, Deny---And, Hope That You Die' (where people have actually died), and where the corrupt politicians (not public servants), remind each other: Don't Blow My Scam---And, I Won't Blow Yours!
In the end, I am finally ready for another dimension...

In 1978 I saw Karen "HotShot" Young perform this at The Harbor Island Spa on the Jersey Shore... no stage, she sang right in the middle of the dance floor. She was wearing a blousy floral dress that looked more like a curtain or lamp shade and she was sort of dancing while singing. To be honest she looked very matronly especially to a young guy like me at the time, I may have been idk... 18 or 19. This is not to take away from the song or her singing which for the time was awesome. The song was a club banger! Even today if this song is played at an old school "Disco" night... it crowds the floor.

... definitely one of the best Disco tracks ever. In my opinion, this was the blueprint of all Disco recordings of that era. The Classic of that excellent genré. I still have the original 12" import copy, borrowed 'permanently' from my father, ha ha ha ha ha ha ... "thanks Dad" R. I. P. 😊👍🏾👌🏾.

My Mom didn’t love me singing this tune as a pre-teen. Well, I didn’t what a “hot shot” was @ 12. I just loved the music but I get that Mom wasn’t acutely loving her son singing about wanting a “hot shot.”
At 57, I’ve had my share of hot shots but the memory is great! And so is Mom!❤
