The lead singer Stuart Adamson is an absolute legend here in my hometown of Dunfermline formerly with the fantastic Skids and then with Big Country possibly one of Dunfermline’s best exports RIP Stuart you were and still are the best.
You mean yon lad Tony Butler (legendary bassist)? He’s actually English, born in London to Dominican parents. Still, the fella’s a total legend, a spectacular bassist with that incredible strong sound and epic groove.
@@bobblowhard8823I think he would have described himself as Scottish he had a Scottish accent just like Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits was born in Glasgow but considered himself a geordie as he grew up in Newcastle .
Loved Stuart Adamson since I was 15 years old back in 1983, when I first heard his music. So bloody saddened that he suffered so much, in silence, depression is the silent killer. Love to all of those who suffer from that awful thing xxx
One of the best bands of the decade. When people talk about why the 80s was the last period that gave us genuine musical individuality rather than the mass produced mindless crap that dominates the radio today, this is what they Mean! How many of today's songs will still evoke such feelings of nostalgia in 30 yes......not many I suspect. God bless Big Country for giving us music to get inspired by.
Went to see them, Bristol Hippodrome the day that we bought our first house in 86. Me 22, missus 18. Flat out all day, then the gig. Tony Butler's bass line thudding my chest. The place was manic. What a night. Me and missus still talk about it. So sad to lose Stu.
I did as well while watching New v MC game. This amazing song came out while I was a senior in high school. Was and still am a huge fan of this song & this type of ‘80s music. Forever an ‘80s girl (at 57 y/o!). Being an Irish accordion player & bagpiper (later in life a Celtic rock musician), this song hit my soul‼️ Sadly I didn’t know of Stuart’s death till today 🥲.
One thing I notice from watching these TOTP videos, whether it's this show, American Bandstand or the show we had here in Canada for many years Electric Circus, all the people dancing on those shows look like they're having a ball, having a great time. That's really what it's all about, good music (who cares if it's lip synched) and good times with people having fun. I wish I could relive those wonderful days all over again....good times and great memories.
well... there was an evolution in the programme, in the beginning the audience was rather still and passive, but someone decided it should all be a bit more enthusiastic so people were encouraged to give it their best. Still it's not 'Soultrain', if you see those people getting down, that's something else :-)
wasnt a massive BC fan, but saw them play live on a new years eve, old grey whistle test, bash. they were absolutely brilliant. one of the best ive seen live. RIP Stuart
Top Of The Pop... I remember when I was 10 in early 80s, watched video cassette of TOTP. Such a wonderful memories... I will always remember those years. Long live 80s...!
I Remember Being In The Tops Of The Pops Studio & Watching Big Country Singing This Song Live I Wish We Could Go Back To The Days Of The 1980,s It Is Difficult To Believe That Stuart Adamson Died 22 Years Ago Along With Freddie Mercury/Fish/Suggs/Lemmy he was one of the best Lead Singers Ever
So love this. Remember playing it for strength and purpose on the morning of my history 'A' Level. I got an A! I so miss cool and talented Stuart. I also remember what I hated most about about TOTP at this time; the fecking dancers the Beeb brought in to jazz up the studio - look at that tw-t in the micro red shorts
An 80's anthem and one of the first Scottish bands to feature a guitarist whose clearly not native to Scotland. Gaun yersel Big Country.I miss you guys.
Happy Birthday Tony Butler born on February 13, 1957. He is a British bassist, best known for his work with Scottish rock band Big Country. He has also worked with The Pretenders, Roger Daltrey, and Pete Townshend. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Butler_(musician)
If you have a dream of being a superhero and you’ll wake up one morning and you don’t have super powers….. don’t despair listen to this and you will kick ass forever
Saw them live in Brussels, in a university aula, 2 buses from Scotland came too. Amazing gig. Really saddened by his departure, couldn't understand it, the music always sounded melancholic, but never negative, hopeless or dark, but always uplifting!
People suddenly died to give our own mind to meditate , Where are dead going to be after departing from the living ?? There is a beauty full hope, There will be a day of resurrection , They joy will be so full of enchantment , death will no longer spread the fear, And we will sing, all together, with angels and millions of who knows, right now we want to see more , We will then know all about the infinity and beyond because God will take the vail so we can see and learn where the word Love come from.Rest in peace the Singer , Resurrection awaits him.
No joke but Whenever I do a 🎤 test, I always say these words, "I'm not expecting to grow flowers in the desert but I can live and breathe and see the Sun in winter time"

I hope and I gave faith god forgives us when we take our own lives cause God forgives all sins
I like how this Scottish band has a Scottish brotha in the band. So cool.

He’s actually English, born in London to Dominican parents.
Still, the fella’s a total legend, a spectacular bassist with that incredible strong sound and epic groove.
@@slashnburn9234 Thanks, mate.
None of the band are Scottish, Tony and Mark are from England, Bruce was born in Canada and Stuart was born in Manchester.
@@Adamjski71 Perhaps, but the band was formed in Scotland, and that counts, sort of.

I stood at the edge of that black pit, depression is a silent killer that hurts the ones who love us the most. Watch your friends, be there for them
@@u.p.woodtick3296 God Bless You and Watch Over You.
I take it he committed suicide.
@@michaelcummingsherrera1232 He did, in a hotel room in America

Well said
Absolutely...
Well put mate.
The absolute business. Guitars lilke bagpipes, metronomic delivery, jumpers, hair gel and immortality.
I saw Big Country when they were the support act for Queen at Knebworth in 1986. Great music, great night.
And what a night/concert that must of been?,i would give anything to have had that memory.
Yup I was there. I personally thought Big Country pretty much blew Queen off the stage. So much passion and musicianship.
@@ianmsalmon wow… must of been good !

Takes me back to my youth, great songs and TOTP😊
The fact that the god that is Bruce Springsteen said that he wished he had written this song says it all!
definitely
Bruce sucks.
If he wrote this song it would have been a tiresome song full of misery and sadness.
I want this played at my funeral ✊🏻✊🏻✊🏻
