LYRICS
Don't leave me this way
I can't survive, I can't stay alive
Without your love, no baby
Don't leave me this way
I can't exist, I will surely miss your tender kiss
So don't leave me this way
Oh, baby, my heart is full of love and desire for you
So come on down and do what you've got to do
You started this fire down in my soul
Now can't you see it's burning out of control
So come on down and satisfy the need in me
'Cause only your good loving can set me free
Don't leave me this way
I don't understand how I'm at your command
So baby please, so don't you leave me this way
Oh, baby, my heart is full of love and desire for you
So come on down and do what you've got to do
You started this fire down in my soul
Now can't you see it's burning out of control
So come on down and satisfy the need in me
'Cause only your good loving can set me free
(Come satisfy me, come satisfy me
Come satisfy me, come satisfy me
Come satisfy me, come satisfy me)
Don't you leave me this way
Don't leave me this way,
Ooh, baby, I can't exist, I will surely miss your tender kiss
So don't leave me this way
Oh baby, my heart is full of love and desire for you
So come on down and do what you've got to do
You started this fire down in my soul
Now can't you see it's burning out of control
So come on down and satisfy the need in me
'Cause only your good loving can set me free
(Set me free, set me free, set me free, set me free, set me free
Set me free, set me free, oh baby)
Don't you know by now, don't you know by now
Don't you know by now, don't you know by now
I'm losing control, I'm losing control

Im 46 and my sister was 49 she died nearly 4 years ago and growing up she loved bronski beat and Jimmy Somerville and listening to it in 2024 reminds me of my childhood some of the best music of the 80s ✌🏼💙.
God bless ya!
God bless you to buddy 🙏🏻
I’m sorry you lost your sister ❤
@milesjolly6173 thank you for the ki d words God bless ✌🏻💙🏴.
What I find BS, is that AGE(65) >>I grew up in San Francisco in the 50s, 60s, and 70s, most of my (BEST FRINDS), were and are GAY!!!!!Truth be told
It's 2024, I'm 63 and still loving Jimmy and this great tune x
Classic
❤
Same boat. These bands have saved a lot of young lives. Back then being gay meant hate, sadness, and aids related deaths. I count mine among them.
It also filled the dance floor for decades.
Él con quien canta ?
This came out in '86 the same time I met my husband Gareth. We had 34yrs together. I lost him to pancreatic cancer in 2020 at 58yrs old. This song takes me back there. Love you Gar. Miss you love. He didn't want to leave me this way.......❤❤
Hugs ❤❤
😢
This is the second time I have seen this comment left.
I think the other was on a Paul Young song.
They are all 80's songs that remind me of my husband Gareth who I met in 1986 . He passed in 2020 .
❤
If you're listening, you're fabulous; whether you admit it or not.
❤
This is one of my every night jams! I love watching them dance together and their drummer is freaking awesome!
Always admitted it💯🇬🇧
There are often small rivalries with our English neighbors, but we must recognize their undeniable superiority in the field of contemporary music. I'm 69 years old and Anglo-Saxon music has always helped me live better and it still does.

Loved dancing to this in the clubs in Calgary, Canada ❤ I’m in my 60’s now. Great sound. Great band
I’m 71 and just rediscovered the Communards and Jimmy in particular. I love his voice .
He was part of Bronski Beat also
And her tits.
This bloke has one hell of a voice. Say no more.
So true
agree
Only Jimmy Somerville could remake one of the 70s classic dance songs, less than a decade later, and make it an 80s anthem.
Jimmy’s version of this song is the best !!!!
I AM 69 AND THIS BAND STILL ROCKS
63 & bought the cassette in 1989!
I am 55, it was the best time of my life! Thank you!! Big kisses from Germany ❤❤❤
Good on ya, friend!
You are da best!
Thank you 🙏!
Los 80s fue una gran época en lo musical y lo mejor que tú , yo , y el que Lee fuimos jóvenes
Así es, nuestros mejores años!! Que pronto pasaron!!! La mejor MÚSICA!!!

I saw Jimmy Somerville in D.C at Tracks which is not there anymore. I remember because it was a blizzard that night and he still played ❤
Sarah Jane Morris and Jimmy Sommerville are a terrific duo!
I wondered who she was and was about search. I did think perhaps Imogen Heap.
The beat, the voice, the whole rythm makes you wanna dance! This is one song that I never get tired of listening to ...so much talent in the 80's! 💖
Could not have said it better1

I think you should read the text can be different in different minds
The version by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes was better, but this is a very close second.
Another reason why the 80s are the best decade for music. Pure genius from such a pure voice.
1980s thumping gay beats.
@@888ssss Yes, even thumping gay beats were incredible. Why do u think 40 years later and Hollywood is still desperately trying to recreate 80s entertainment
this song is fuckin garbage compared to other 80s music.
The best decade in music was the 1960s which gave the impetus to bands of the 1970s and 1980s.
YES, spot on. The music of today is just a load of shit, thanks to TH-cam we can step back in time to 80s great Music.

Right now I'm 52, but I've just been dancin' around the livin' room like I'm 16 again. Great memories of teenage years, old friends (wishing you all well), and good times.

In the 80s My sister was the coolest person I knew. She listened to this song, and introduced me to Rage on ABC tv . We lived in a small town in western Queensland, Australia. This song reminds me of the cherished parts of our otherwise abusive childhood. Set me free!🙂 best song ever! Here we are in 2022
The same with me, Owen. I grew up with the worst excuse of a father who prefered his gambling and drinking over getting off his BIG lardarse backside to go out to work and provide for his wife and 3x son's. He was always a vile man that as i've become older, wiser and knowing that i've given my 4x son's all the love and respect that they deserve so much and my son's make me and my wife so proud, every single day. My father was violent, abusive and evil in mine and my 2x brothers lives as we grew up but once i turned 16 i was outta there as fast as i could. I took the decision to cut my father and mother right out of my life a long time ago and i'm so glad i did. They don't deserve to see how well my son's have become such amazing young men.
one of the best songs of the 80s in my generation.
This is wat u call music ❤ bring back the 80s ❤❤❤
Unbelievable nearly 40yrs old and still sound bloody fantastic
That's because the music today is Schit.

What a nice man
So happy to be young in the 80s ❤ the future was bright and music so excellent
YEah, they lied to us, didn't they? How's that "bright" future working out? At least the world hasn't cracked in half, yet, this year. Give us time. We'll foul it up.
I remember the original in the 1970’s. This is one of the rare occasions that a new version of a song was rather brilliant.
Momentos inolvidables con esas canciones 😘

Same here. Timeless.
@@alistaircampbell They sure don't. This is a classic. No it's more than classic, it's iconic.
Neither do I.
One of the best songs of the 80's. I remember i even bought the 12" single. This song had the best sound quality back then.
12" single! Are you talking about those black discs that my grandfather had a lot of?
@@lekarzkto Absolutely. 😂
@@IkeMann100 😉
For sure, those balck vinyl disks had the absolute best sound-quality. Still true to this day. MP3 will never even approach the quality of vinyl.
12" must be some kind of record
They don’t make songs like this today the beats the music takes me away to to a happy place of youth , jimmy is best of Britain in 1980s
Can we book the Dr. with his Tardis and go back please?

Kudos to Sarah Jane Morris for singing this awesome song with Jimmy.
I saw Sarah Jane fronting a local multi-instrument group in a railway arch in my hometown Brixton, Jimmy S was in the audience too and went up to talk to Sarah Jane afterwards - as far as I know for the first time - a small piece of music history, but a beautiful one 💚

"Don't Leave Me This Way" is a song written by Kenneth Gamble, Leon Huff, and Cary Gilbert. It was originally released in 1975 by Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes featuring Teddy Pendergrass, an act signed to Gamble & Huff's Philadelphia International label. "Don't Leave Me This Way" was subsequently covered by American singer Thelma Houston in 1976 and British duo the Communards in 1986, with both versions achieving commercial success.
This is my favorite cover of this song! This song was the first time I had ever heard of The Communards and is my favorite song of theirs. I was all of 22 in 1986.
Man I miss the 80's and dancing at The Saloon in Minneapolis. The dance floor was always packed and people just sang right along to it!
