  • The Giant Trance X Advanced E+ Elite... yea, its a mouthful, but for a bike that can do so much and be so many things to different riders, maybe we're giving Giant too hard of a time for their naming conventions... Watch along to see more about the all-new Trance Elite.

    I took one out. I'm 105kg. The bike wasn't set up for me, shop had it set at 20% intervals. I did 606 m climbing. I ran it at 100 only for a 300m I got 30km out of it. I'm going to see if the change settings and get at least 40km, otherwise It's range is not enough.

    Great bike! Do you know if the battery is removable to charge inside the house?
    Thanks for the review!

    • @mikesbikes
      @mikesbikes  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You would have to drop the motor to remove the battery. It's one way to keep the bikes light, removable batteries are a challenge because you have to beef up the downtube so much to allow for basically a big hole in the frame.

    Great work on app controls by Giant. The new levo SL better bring it. 400 watt battery not enough. Orbea has it right with a higher watt option. Hate that round thing popping out the non drive side of the motor. Kills the look.🙄

    Sounds like what I’m looking for! But the dealer in Cincinnati is not bringing any in. I hate ordering on line because the geometry numbers confuse me and I might order the wrong size. I sit a lot at 66 years old so if I go with top tube plus stem to be similar to my TallBoy I’m a large but the the reach is insanely long for me. The tone tube number of a medium matches my TallBoy but it has a 80mm stem and this bike has a 40mm. I wish there was a dealer near me. Nice video by the way. Very informative and helpful. Thank you!

    • @LuisManuelHdez
      @LuisManuelHdez ปีที่แล้ว

      Switching out a stem is easy peazy! Stick to the numbers.

    • @mikesbikes
      @mikesbikes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Geometry has shifted quite a bit over the years so if your Tallboy is older, then most bikes these days that are a large, will have a longer reach/top tube but with a short stem. So your position doesn't change much but it gets the front wheel out a bit further for more control. How tall are you and what's your inseam?

    • @tomordr
      @tomordr ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mikesbikes thanks for asking. I’m 5’ 8.5” with a pbh of 83cm. My Tallboy is a 2015 with 587mm tt, 80mm stem, 390mm reach. Don’t want to be any more stretched out. And With a 1091mm wb, I know any e bike is going to be longer and not as nimble in turns too

    • @mikesbikes
      @mikesbikes  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tomordr I'm 5'9" and I fit the Medium perfectly. Geometry has changed a lot since your tallboy, and for the better. I think you'll really like the confidence the new geo gives you while maintaining a seating position you are used to.

  • @fishinmtber

    Nice review!! You said it ran for about an hour on full boost but do you know how far it went? How many miles and elevation gain? Also, how heavy are you? This bike seems almost perfect but I'm worried about range. I'm a heavyweight too haha. Also, which do you prefer, the orbea or the giant?

    • @mikesbikes
      @mikesbikes  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That ride was about 13 mile and 2800 Ft. I'm about 175 lbs but was pushing hard for the full hour so I was pretty maxed on the motor. I was trying to see how quickly I could kill the battery. I've been able to do 2+ hour rides in lower assist levels without the range extender.

    I think I lucked out. I found a two year old elite 0 for under $6000 U.S. taxes in. Loving this bike but makes me wonder about the pricing if a new one is $14.000 before tax.

    great review, is the lowest end model carbon or alloy/aluminum? I put 2500 miles on the 2021 Giant Trance 29er and if you get it set up correctly by a shop like Mikes, you win. Amazing 1st e bike on ski resort elevation, crazy range, but it was 54lbs and a handful on the DH. My Orbea Rise H30 is as good or better, and the DH has become big fun. I'm a smarter e biker now and torgue/cadence is where it's at, not boost all day. 6k is what you pay today for a great bike WITH resale value since other riders see you having so much fun, bingo they will take it from you if you know how to care for it. This model might be great for a rider who travels a bit, stretching their limits on a whim. I think other riders are not the issue, some are better climbers, but not great on the DH, and e mtn bikers hang together I find, especially if someone isn't having a super fitness day. My biggest concern with Giant is their app in the past was brain dead. Forced upgrades, then NO information on what was upgraded. You would hope a major biker maker would clean up their tech act.

    • @mikesbikes

      At this point, it's carbon only. "Advanced" in Giant speak means carbon.

    I just looked a $6000 Trance, blah,blah, elite 3 in a medium. 45 pounds, 11 ounces! 20.7 Kg. For $6k. I found it to be REALLY impressive at that price point! And the motor is nice and quiet.
