My first novice station in 1976 was an HR-10B & a DX-60. I soon graduated to an HW-16 with the matching VFO, loved that. I ended up giving the receiver & DX-60 to the local library sale to raise money for books.

The MS-4 speaker is actually the matching speaker for the 4-line sets; there is a 2-CS (speaker only) and 2-CQ which is the speaker and Q-Multiplier combo. TNX for sharing Terry! 73 - Dino KLØS

It's hard when you're starting out, but as you learn about the components and how they work, you begin to see how they work together and the "why" behind the interconnections. Like in this case, the coax relay switches the antenna (or "dummy load" antenna equivalent) between the transmitter and receiver. Even when doing that, the receiver is still going to get a rather strong signal coming in, so it has a control input to put it into standby mode, which the transmitter tells it to do via a matching control output signal. Key the mic, the transmitter starts "talking" while telling the receiver to "put its fingers in its ears". 🙂
(Note, I described this the way I did because I don't know who will be reading it, or what level of knowledge and experience they have. I hope it helps anyone trying to learn electronics and the amateur radio hobby.)
