I thought it was going to be the same price as or lower than the Model 3 and that more people buy SUVs (Y) than sedans (3), which would make it the breakthrough model. The Model Y makes me very disappointed in Tesla. Or maybe Tesla needed the Model Y as an extra step to get the company ready for the mainstream. I hope so....

Musk is no Kiichiro Toyoda. It seems tough to find balance. Musk is all about pushing tech (and schedule!) boundaries but not so much on QC... because that would hold back his insistence on doing things fast.

My same thought... Shouldn't that be a given at that price point? I don't like how MKBHD downplayed the issues saying he likes the positives of the car. Having a gap allowing for water to enter the car is a deal breaker on my books.

It's why if you do ever decide to buy one of these cars (ANY new Tesla for that matter) from a Tesla dealership, you always check for quality on the grounds of the dealership and make sure a report is done of every single issue, they should repair it for free so long as it was known that it was an issue left unfixed from the factory. Tesla's have always been known for their cosmetic and build quality issues, so if you buy a Tesla without knowing the issues you are committing yourself to, you will be in for a shock.

@Matthew Tesla is basically an AI+battery company that happens to make cars.
All their bleeding edge tech is in the battery pack, the BMS, the TMS, autopilot, power train, that kinda stuff. That's mostly what you're paying for.
The build quality of the Model Y isn't terrible by any means unless you want a luxury car.

I love my Model 3 so much but Tesla REALLY needs to work on their QC, honestly should be their #1 priority right now. I had 2 service appointments within the first week of owning my model 3, besides that though the car is amazing.

@@Whatastic I've had multiple on my Model S for stupid things, I don't even have autopilot on my car and there was an autopilot malfunction message once. Another time I couldn't turn on my AC for some random reason, the option was greyed out. And a few other times I've had other problems which I can't remember. Only thing I like is they service it for free, and if your car is stuck somewhere (mine wouldn't turn on one time because I didn't drive for a week) they come to where you are almost like a breakdown service.
Kable10 its like driving a Range Rover. I love my RR but it loves the service center more than it loves me.

It's a very plain red tbh, they could have given it a bit more metallic shine or a bit darker tone, but as it stands it's just flat red, very uninteresting.
For example Mazda's Soul red is gorgeous and shines differently in different angles.

Teslas are known to have cheap build quality and some really ludicrous defects,
like i have seen it 3 times now when one of my acquaintances purchased a Tesla but returned it coz of some manufacturing defects.

Actually I use voice commands most of the times instead of touching that screen to do/find something. You are right, some essential stuffs would be good to have a button but once used to voice commands, it would become natural.

You’re not expected to keep the key card on the center console, you’re just supposed to tap it there to start the car

Can you not keep it in your pocket like with other cars with keyless start?
Davidev94 it’s a card not a fob. It’s RFID like NFC. The card is only designed as an emergency backup. Typically the car will unlock for you if your phone is in your pocket. It uses your phone as the key.
@@Davidev94 Using the key card is not the keyless start -- It's the backup key. Keyless start feature uses your smartphone with the Tesla App... And yes, you just keep the phone in your pocket and step on the brake pedal to "start" the car. You can also buy the keyfob if you don't have or want to use your smartphone..
And then what? Put it back in your pocket after you sat down?
There is a button for wind shield wipers on the left stalk. Then the touch screen can adjust the speed after you hit the button if you want.

Pro SLR cameras have all the key controls as buttons on the exterior of the chassis. Cheap cameras access controls via a menu on a screen. You can always shoot faster and more accurately with a pro camera, while never taking your eyes away from the viewfinder.

Unfortunately that wasn't the case with other tesla models. They have gotten better since release, but poor build quality is a problem tesla has had in virtually every model at release.

Keyless entry should allow for keeping it in pocket OR some sort of magnetic holder where the ancient keyholes used to go.
Yeah, about that key. That placement is only just to start the car. It is not supposed to be left on the console. Once the car is operational, you can put the key anywhere inside the car. I have been in and drove about 140 Tesla 3s. The key is really only supposed to be used if someone is borrowing your car.
7:30 so once you "start" the car using the card key it doesn't need to stay there. Place it down. Car is started, put it back in your wallet. Done.

Marques, I really appreciate the honesty about quality control issues. This is probably my biggest gripe with Tesla to date and I'm shocked that after all these years that they're still struggling with it. I hope they get their act together, especially after this video.
I opted for the base wheels for the taller sidewalls. Its mainly due to the lower profile tires don't do well on rough roads and the harsh ride.
We received ours in October and it was a 2021 model at Tesla Reno and it was delivered three weeks early. Received in two weeks but Reno is not that far from Fremont CA.. We got the midnight silver. Everything worked great and we found no fit and finish issues. We stayed away from the white because of what we saw in reviews and we got the upgraded wheels and tires and the 4.2 seconds zero to 60 just because. So far perfect. We installed a high quality 500 GB SSD and that works great for loop surveillance video. Note we did not need to format the drive to FAT32, We formatted the drive completely in exFAT and that worked perfect. We named the Volume Tesla and the file needs to be TeslaCam. The car recognized the drive immediately. The WIFI was very easy to configure. Just touch the WIFI icon on the upper righthand of the screen and it will open the configure. It also came configured for 326 Mile range. We love it and it's faster in the quarter mile than my 2015 427 Z28 LOL! My wife's Tesla soccer mom car is faster than most muscle cars. CRAZY

The keycard doesn’t have stay there you just have to tap to “start” then you can put it away.

@@gabrielhassan9942 your pocket/wallet can be the dedicated place. That or literally anywhere else in the car. The last place you should leave it is resting precariously on the center console.
I’m not understanding people saying that the card should be in a pocket or something. My Durango has a fob, and I have a small pocket in the front console where I can leave said fob. That’s what Marques was getting at. Give us a place to store the card.
