The plot can be summed up as so.
"Aqua is acting babysitter hunting for Ven and Terra. Ven whines as he's trying to find is big brother Terra. And Terra is reenacting the plot of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith".

See I kind of see Terra as a Kingdom Hearts/anime version of Anakin Skywalker lol. A lot of Star Wars prequel vibes from this game actually!

And a Kingdom Hearts version of Fortune Street (a game I do like, except it could get questionable at times like when Princess Daisy complained “I thought we were gonna be together forever!” to her significant other Luigi... Get it?! Because Mario and Princess Peach are a plumber and a princess that are a romantic couple that also failed to be married in Super Mario Odyssey, so why not have another one of them?! Okay, okay, in all seriousness, though, I get where they were going for, but I am in actuality a Luaisy supporter because they seem to get along very well with each other, in fact, even when they were toddlers as shown in Mario Kart Wii, they had a romance and strong friendship with each other since there is both statues of the main and baby versions of the characters dancing together).
The movie doesn't cover the plot of Kingdom Hearts _X._ The movie focuses on the 5 masters of each faction in _X,_ meanwhile _X_ itself focuses on your own player character and their interactions with a young boy as tensions rise leading into the Keyblade war. Basically the movie is the behind the scenes of the Keyblade war where the game is the frontline perspective of the Keyblade War.
Oh and he has Union cross too.

Except we really don't see the actual damn War ever. That, and I really don't wanna see the *KEYBLADE WAR* portrayed by a bunch of puppet looking guys with barely more animation than a Theatrhythm model.

I am someone who doesn't despise Terra, he is basically Riku's story but with worse results, poor guy, he loses his body like Riku almost did

I feel like Terra was more of a unlucky guy than an idiot. In my opinion KH1 Riku was worse than Terra as at least the latter wasn’t a @$$ and does something right at the end of his travels.
Plus I feel like he got a very worse fate than Ven or even Aqua.

3:29 no, Darkness is not evil or bad, it's merely HARDER to control than Light because Darkness feeds off of more unstable emotions like anger, jealousy, fear or frustration. Only when you master your more unstable emotions do then master darkness. This was already explained in Chain of Memories

Its nice to see someone in the KH community come to the same conclusions about the issues with the more recent games' combat systems and not be immediately ignored or attacked by the community saying "you shouldn't care about the combat only the story" or the popular "you only care about the combat because you are a speed runner or technical game player, so you observations on the game don't matter" let's not forget that while the story is important, this is a GAME not a movie which means the feel and quality of the combat is really important
ah yes, the quality combat of button mashing endlessly with no strategy in kh1 and 2, so much better.
Why? Because Aqua is beautiful and deserves nice things. That's why.
This game's ending was so heartbreaking that I dunno if I can bring myself to play the game again.
The KH x(Chi) movie doesn't actually go over everything in the game. In fact, Union Cross is also thing now soooo this retrospective may need like 20+ more years

to be fair about the fortune street thing: this was the us' 1st exposure to the series. we didn't get the wii one didn't come till a few years later

and this is exactly the thing, people confuse being hard to explain, with being hard to understand. the story is simple, and works, but explaining everything makes it feel much more convoluted than it really is.

Um Antdude, D-Link can be leveled up. It's sort of random, but you have to battle enemies until a keychain item pops out. It will level up the command deck of the link you are using, as well as grant status buffs, such as Regen or reduced buffer times as well as really powerful finishers.
And even more important, it levels up the commands in your regular command deck as well. That's even the entire point of Stitch's D-Link. He makes leveling your commands so much quicker. While I do feel as Mickey and Stitch were the only I used by the end of each character, Ventus was amazing to have near the beginning of a critical mode playthrough.
Daniel Hughes Excuse me, but, do you know how to get the Secret Episode in Birth By Sleep Final Mix for the ps4? I've gotten to the end of the Final Episode, but I REALLY don't know how you're supposed to get to the Secret Episode. I know, it's secret, but it's really pissing me off that I can't get to it. Is it not available if you beat the game on Beginner? I refuse to play BBS on anything higher than beginner, because I haven't gotten the finer points of strategy on the command deck down and the final bosses for Terra and Ven are pretty much hard enough on beginner, and I'm still not ready for higher difficulties yet, even though I've been playing Kingdom Hearts ever since it first came out in 2002, when I was a little boy, and even as a KH veteran, i still feel like i don't know a damn thing, and I REALLY hate the command board and all of the disney town minigames. Especially the ice cream rhythm bullshit. I hope those aren't tied to playing the Secret Episode. If you don't know, it's fine. You will have to play it on harder dificulty if you want to unlock it.
The harder the difficulty the easiest it is to unlock.

A bit late but yeah. Tbf if you don't want to you can ignore 80% of the cool mechanics in the game, especially in standard. I played Ventus first in standard, then Terra and Aqua in Proud. Coming back to each for the reports I found out that my Ventus save had a horrible deck with pretty mediocre commands and I didn't even know how command styles worked. My Terra save on the other hand had good commands but were ordered terrible so they didn't proc the command styles. My Aqua save on the other hand had a good command deck.
Finally. I have waited for so long. Amazing video. Thank you for bringing it back.

OK need to do some clear up, sorry. The spell Aqua casted on Kairi was to allow her heart to go into another's heart, which is why Kairi landed on the Destiny Islands. Also you are right on the Ventus thing, its because his heart is inside Sora that explains why Roxas looks like Ven.
0.2 is more a tech demo for KH3, which the newer trailers look SO MUCH better.
Also if you though explaining the plot of this game was, have fun with DDD. Sorry, you did this to yourself. Trust me, I've been a fan for a long time and honestly forgave a lot of mistakes they made. But DDD's plot, ain't one of them and I know I am not the only KH fan who feels that way.

Neither AntDude nor Johnny mentioned that Aqua meets the real Ansem (the hooded figure) in the Realm of Darkness. He was locked away after his machine exploded in KH2.
You can level up D-Links too tho, and it's an optional feature that doesn't get in the way if you don't use it.

The Station Square music from Sonic Adventure in the end slate was a nice touch
I just realized something about the Wayfinder trio. They all literally represent the triforce in some way. Terra is Power for obvious reasons. Aqua is Wisdom, because also for obvious reasons, and Ventus is Courage because he is literally not afraid to go after his friends to save them.

This game had the most memorable and epic final boss fight in the whole series for me. My favorite part was Terras finale with Xeanort. But goddam there better be a Stitch world in KH3!!
Corey Mckee As much as I love the idea of a Stich world (Lilo and Stich is in my top 5 Disney films) I feel it would be redundant. I mean other than them being in Hawaii and fighting tropical themed Heartless, I don't think there would be much to it.

after buying the 1.5 and 2.5 combo and 2.8 for PS4 at the same time, i played and/or watched the entire series in cannonical order and let me say this: it actually made the story VERY easy to follow
Spock1777 Which one did you start with, because I'm also playing the KH remastered games again, and watching the KH games which have been turned into hd cutscenes in order, except for the back cover movie, because it's stupid boring, and confusing, even though it's first, then Birth By Sleep, 0.2 Birth By Sleep (even though it's story takes place right at the end of the original KH) the original Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts: Chain Of Memories, 358/2 Days, Kingdom Hearts 2, Re:Coded, Dream Drop Distance, and finally Kingdom Hearts 3. I'm doing it again because I'm a die-hard KH veteran who's been playing since 2002, when I was a little boy, and I wanted to see how Disney and Final Fantasy would mix together, and hearing Simple And Clean in the commercials REALLY helped. I agree, it's easy to follow once you play through all of them at once, but at the time, before they were wonderfully packed together, the wait for a new Kingdom Hearts game was near unbearable, and if you didn't have EVERY console that the series branched onto, you'd be hopelessly lost. I know I was when I transitioned from KH1, to KH2. Because I didn't know about Chain Of Memories, I was lost. I fixed that years later though. Plus, I'm celebrating the release of KH3, which I'm still working on playing, but I'm still at Olympus, and enjoying how great the graphics look and how awesome the gameplay is. I also don't know how you unlock the Secret Episode in Birth By Sleep. So, I'm stuck there, but currently on Kingdom Hearts 2: Final Mix, on Standard, because you can't get the secret ending unless you play it on a higher difficulty, which is fine. Sorry this was so long, but being as passionate about this series as I am, I had a lot to say. Have a great day/night, and may your heart be your guiding key.

I loved the PSP, I was so mad that they never released a true Sonic game on it. I love the battle system of BBS so much more than KH1 and 2. The D-link is good for healing early on in higher difficulty. Also I'm addicted to the Command Board.

Command Board is low key fun
Also you touched on the secret bosses but you didn't mention that Mysterious Figure and Vanitas' Sentiment were in the original release. Plus Final Mix adds Armor of the Master and No Heart as optional fights in the Mirage Arena, Eraqus and Xehanort in the Keyblade Armor.
I hope he knows that X Back Cover doesn't tell you the entire plot of the X saga :T
The reason why Fate of the Unknown isn't used for BBS' version of the secret ending sequence is because FotU is scored-to-picture, with the music matching the imagery rather than being a tune you can place on any action sequence. As such, the timing of the redone version wouldn't sync up well with the music, as it's paced differently (not to mention there's some loading in-between as it's not made up of just a single cutscene).

You talk about the lack of color in BBS 0.2, but you didn't mention how gorgeous it looked in the area before entering Destiny Islands, and Destiny Island itself, looks astonishing with that lightning.
I know the Kingdom Hearts franchise has a LOT of problems. Some with the combat in some games, plot, plot, and more plot. But honestly I just have so much love and nostalgia for it that I look past it and enjoy myself. Kingdom Hearts is what got me into video games. I got a PS2 for Christmas when I was 6 and that was the game I wanted most to play. It has a lot of flaws and problems but I can always play it and enjoy. But also sometimes cringe.
Honestly I feel like the moments with Evan and Ienzo and the mentioning of Ienzo's parents are gonna be extremely important someday in future games. (I can't say anything else cuz spoilers involve my theories)

The thing is that your commands still get CP even if you are using D-Links because commands get CP (even if you don't use them) as long as you have them equipped. D-Links can also be leveled up with random drops from enemies while using D-Link. Leveling up D-Links grants different unique buffs to your character (like Stitch gets 2xCP ability that makes leveling up commands super fast) and also a new finisher for the D-Link when it's on level 2.
