Really great clip of Ray Charles and Johnny Mercer together, and it was fascinating that the Southern tradition of music really wove together black, Irish, and other popular music together.
I loved singing Skylark on my Big Band CD. I had such a crush on Johnny Mercer watching him on TV. One song Johnny wrote with Walter Donaldson was CUCKOO IN THE CLOCK and it is such a fun song to sing. Janie Martin
I watched Part One and was wondering when he would get to my Favorite of all of his Lyrics. "Skylark" is pure Hoagy Caarmichael with Johnny providing the haunting words to the terrific music. I can see a person looking for his/her place or his/her love. They were a terrific combination. Johnny merc er had so much poetic talent. I wasx terrible with poetry until I learned all the lyrics to popular songs and I began to appreciate poetry, but as lyrics to music. I just don't get what they music of today is trying to say other than complete confusion with the mission of living their life!
Your knowledge on this music is rare! Keep it up man soon this music will disappear from the face of the earth and people will look to you to provide them all the information they need to know on the classics! Stay up brethren!
rangerstationlegion Unfortunately, I'm not so young, still pretty young but I'm in my fifties and true maybe one day I will be able to turn somebody no to something they didn't hear before.
rangerstationlegion This music isn't going anywhere!Listen to Bix and repeat that statement again. While thus of us who love this music are still standing and breathing, the fight goes on!!!!!!
I LOVE THIS! Johnny Mercer is one of the U.S.A.'s best lyricists ever. He is a national treasure.

The finest lyricist of all time and a wonderful singer too.
Oh, Heather, to be fair, there were others, but he's up there with the best for all time.

It doesn't matter what colour you are or the shape of your face. Music doesn't discriminate, does it.
Lovely statue of Johnny Mercer in the beautiful city of Savannah . Great lyricist and underrated.

I liked seeing Bix Beiderbeck in there, not many know who he was he died so young, like 28 or something like that. Love Mercer's tunes.

Jonnie had a very cultured southern accent.
It’s a shame they don’t play this on American tv channels, if they can in England. I guess dr pimple popper is more interesting to American audiences
Genius.
also, what is this from?
BBC i guess (look left and up)
Great clip. But "Georgia" refers to a woman, not the state!
