People think country is dead because they don't look enough, and support the small guys.. Apparently you have no idea who Colter Wall is, or Tyler Childers.. He is one of the best singer/songwriters out there today, good ole boy from Kentucky who sings true music from the heart. Don't fucking degrade the guys trying to live this genre out because you can't open your eyes and ears enough to find these guys.
When I was 21 my roommate in university came home with a brand new 33 1/3 L.P. of Hank William's Greatest Hits. To my surprise, when he played it I knew all the words and could sing along. My dad used to listen to nothing but Hank when I was a toddler, about 3 - 5 years old, and I had learned the lyrics to his songs subliminally!!!
"A picture from the past came slowly steelin', as I brushed your arm, and walked so close to you. Then suddenly I got that old-time feelin'. I can't help it if I'm still in love with you." Some of the most romantic words ever written, and a very romantic moment.

You said it! He wrote more music in 3 years than most people have written in a lifetime! Truly the Father of Country music! Musicians are Still playing his music. Look at that legacy left by his son, Hank, Jr. & his Grandson, Hank, III.
I grew up listening to these songs and other artists from my parents. I had seen a couple of movies about the story of Hank but nothing I have seen covered his life like these videos, Thank You. (Truly a Superstar of his day & now a Legend.)
This video brings back soooo many childhood memories of times with my Dad. He would go about his day singing songs by Hank, with the same style and vigor as Hank. We lost Dad suddenly back in 1999 and when I think of the old days it makes me so lonesome I could cry. May God's Blessings be upon you and yours!
I don't know if there has ever been a single entertainer that had such an impact as Hank Williams. The man was only 29 years old and had written more songs than some writers do in a 50 year career. Before he passed away, some were already calling him the "Legendary Hank Williams" which is a title that most don't earn until their hair is silver. Rolling Stones magazine did a top 100 influential songwriters of all time list and Hank hit at number 13, number one was Bob Dylan and yet Bob Dylan said "if you ask me, Hank Williams in the number one of all time". When you think of all of the legends of music, the biggest names, Elvis, The Rolling Stones, John Lennon, George Jones, Johnny Cash, Ray Charles etc... nearly every one of them would tell you that they were inspired by Hank Williams. He's been gone for nearly 70 years and today he is as highly revered as ever, people still perform and record his songs... I hope that Hank knows the love people still have for him. I recently was fortunate enough to have found a Grand Ole Opry program that was signed by Hank... I got chills just holding something in my hand that Hank Williams had touched- that is how much of an impact he has had on me. I've collected music memorabilia for 30 years, but never thought I would ever be fortunate to own something signed by Hank. I am thrilled beyond words.
Jimmie Rodgers is still influencing people today even if they don't know it. Elton Britt's Jimmie Rodgers Blues is fantastic song that reels off many of his song titles and manages to tell the story of his life through those songs. Without Jimmie and Hank country music today would just be middle-of-the-road dirge........ No wait .... Hang on.

Amazing what this man accomplished in such a short time. My brother just died at 30.. too young to go. Most people dont accomplish what hank did at 29 by the age of 103. I feel like my brother and Hank still had a lot to accomplish. Sucks to see people pass away at such a young age.
That's my cousin Anita Carter. She was really struck on Hank. You probably saw that in her eyes when Hank set down beside her. Anita was the best of all the Carter girls. No slight on June , Helen, or Maybelle they were good singers too. Hank always felt he was a singin' preacher.
I agree with you about your cousin! I think she is the most talented in the Carter family. Definitely the most beautiful. June was kinda wild. And I picked up on what you said about Anita's admiration of Hank. You can see it in her eyes!! I remember a song that she sang a chorus with June and Johnny on his show. The greatest songwriter that there ever has been or ever will be. In any style of music. I wonder if he realized when he wrote I Saw The Light that he had written the perfect song? A true artist. The Hillbilly Shakespeare.
Hank Williams SENIOR . will always be one of the greatest artists there ever was. No one still today has ever come close to Hank Williams SENIOR . He had a sound all of his own love his voice & his music. R.I.P HANK WILLIAMS SENIOR Hank 3.rd is really good & so close to his grandfather He is also a great singer He is the only one that comes close to Hank SENIOR. I've only heard one sing he sang but it was amazing.
Hank Williams wasn't just a country singer. He was country itself. Him along with several other like Patsy Cline and a few others. Who could just walk on stage without any of the showmanship we have now. A man and a steel guitar. Along with a bottle of whisky and a broken heart managed to capture everyone from ordinary people and music icons. The number of those that covers his song is only equal to the names in the rock and roll hall of fame. From Ray Charles, to Bob Dylan and almost every legend in between. Almost everyone who heard it could relate. Hank once said when asked how he writes his songs. His reply was "you have to live it". Before hank very few songs were about personal heartbreak. He wasn't the first to do it, but he was the first to make nearly all his songs about something that impacted his life and take it mainstream. The country we have now has a pop sound to it which im not to fond of. I can always depends in putting on Hank and hear a song about a life with the sweet sound of a steel guitar.
My grandparents LOVED Sacred Harp, or Old Harp is what we called it. In fact, my grandfather taught it in local churches in the 1920s/30s. Hearing it brings back a lot of memories.
Man this song is so dead on for anyone who's still harboring feelings for that lost love. That's how I felt when I saw my ex-wife with her new man. The sad part of it is that I know she still loved me but I was not deserving of her love. We can be such fools there's no way to describe it. Beautiful Anita and a beautiful duet.
Just looked up Luke Bryan bracing myself for the wretched style of new country. Why God indeed!! Fortunately there's still some great newer country artists still putting 'the cunt back into country'! I particularly like Justin Townes Earle (his early stuff especially). He's walked some hard country miles like his Dad, Steve Earle, and his music is undoubtedly all the better for it.
Well, we got Tyler Childers, too. And Chris Stapleton. And Brent Cobb. And a bunch of other authentic country types. Hank was kinda the original outlaw country guy..
Why its not about the singer no more most of the country singer,s of my gen just sing other people,s songs sum dont most do ive played from the time i was 8 and ive never tryed doing anything with it. But to me the true wy of singer song wrighters are gone its all about puting on a dance show people like hank sr jr and the rest of the ones who were back befor my time are a dieing breed my god help us for now days most of these new singer,s and bands dont even really play or they use a computer to make there sounds god bless from the hills of carlina
Y’all so right about Hank Williams. Round about the 50’s there was another good singer out of Nova Scotia Canada goes by the name of Hank Snow. Worth a listen.
Hank Williams was one of my distant relative's. i found out about three months ago. My father was adopted by his step father changing our last name to Crawford, because his real father drank himself to death. My grandfather was born in Banks, Alabama, and it just so happens to be where Hanks first wife is from. We traced our lineage back at our family reunion. I think its pretty cool, considering he's the king.
david crawford My husband's father was Hank's first cousin, they were raised together in the logging camps. Some of his pictures are in this documentary also. What line are you related through?
It's a bit distant, I found out in October and my aunt has the tree we got off ancestry.com. I believe my grandfather was hanks third cousin. Sorry I couldn't tell you more.
I only went south once to visit a musician friend who lived in Montgomery. How cool it was that he took me to Hank's grave ---- as he knew I would appreciate it. I didn't even know that's where he was buried. But I never forgot it.
The autopsy report says there was only a 'trace' amount of alcohol found in HW's system. So, this is false reporting, he did not die of over drinking alcohol. He died of respiratory failure and a blocked ventricle due to morphine, heroin, and Chloral hydrate, a sedative, also called a hypnotic. Chloral hydrate slows the activity of your central nervous system. This medicine has both fast-acting and long-lasting sedative effects. The autopsy also stated that HW had been beaten very recently. He had evidence of being kicked in the groin, a cracked rib and bruises all about the body, a huge welt protruding from his head, a few lacerations and a very recently bandaged hand. No explanation has ever been given for why he was beaten or when or by whom. He was born with Spina Bifida, a very painful spine condition. He was also an alcoholic from age 11. His father had PTSD, which they called shell-shock back then, and was confined to a V.A. Hospital after WWI. I'd like to know why no one talks about Charles Carr getting a speeding ticket that night and that he also appeared in front of a judge and paid that ticket. Who else saw Charles Carr that night? And what about the supposed hitch hiker Charles Carr said he picked up? He was said (by Carr) to be a soldier. What happened to him? Why was he never found? Why was there no investigation into HW's death? Beaten about the head, injected with morphine, unconscious when put into the car, driven to the next gig in an ice storm? What happened to his hat? It was said he only had a t-shirt on when he was taken from the car. Where was his shirt? Something is just not right about this whole thing.
Scottish John Sorry I'm 3 yrs late in responding but there's someone out there for you. You just gotta find her and by now you probably have. If not...I'm around and single.
He died so young yet he is considered one of the greatest. Some of the greatest country singers like Johnny cash and willy Nelson looked to him as an idol. This truly remarkable.
My favorite story about Hank is his response to a question about how he was able to write so many songs. Hank said he didn't write anything, he just put the pen on the paper and the Lord took it from there. In my opinion Hank Williams is the finest composer America ever produced, regardless of genres or eras. His music stands up as well today as it did 70 years ago. I feel bad for his son being pushed into the business the way he was by his mother and I'm not a big fan of his sound but his father did love him and he has done the best he could to keep Hank's legacy alive. I heard Hank's daughter Jett, who didn't know Hank was her father until she was out of high school, sing and I think she got more of Hank's sound in her genes than any of his heirs. I have always wondered what could have happened if Robert Johnson and Hank had both lived a bit longer and were able to collaborate as song writers. I think they would been the U.S. version of Lennon/McCartney. But that is something we will never know. Some thing's God only makes one of, and he only had it in Him to make one Hank Williams. I imagine He heard I'm So Lonesome I could Cry and the rest and just said, that can't be topped. That could be why he called him home so soon. He wanted that voice and that soul near Him in Heaven. I guess He figured He had shared him with us as long as He could bear it. RIP Hank. My dad and I didn't have much in common, but we both agreed on your music, and you helped inspire me to pick up a guitar. I was never as good as you, but I know the sweet feeling when you get something right on it. I'm looking forward to hearing you live on the other side. Maybe you can teach me to yodel. Bye for now friend. Thanks to the person who put this out here. Great stuff.
Old country was a shared misery of being hungry, poor and blissfully ignorant. New country is mere pablum. But, isn't everything now a days? Old country and blues had soul. We have it much too good now. Thats what we share now, so music will always be bland, empty and forgetful.
Because it is all controlled now by music industry. Why did Jim Croce die in plane crash just as he was to launch his own record company bc he didn't make any ## off of his songs. Asking...

Amen. I don't really care for this modern country music (kinda odd coming from a 17 year old) but Hank had a way of singing that'll make you tear up.
MY GRANDPARENTS HAD
HANK SR. I HAVE PUKE BRYAN.....WHY ME LORD?
My grandparents LOVED Sacred Harp, or Old Harp is what we called it. In fact, my grandfather taught it in local churches in the 1920s/30s. Hearing it brings back a lot of memories.
N
i dont trust anybody who doesnt like hank williams
man, that duet with anita? made my week listening to the two of them...thanks for putting this up
I felt the same way.
That my friend is what we call "the good stuff"
Man this song is so dead on for anyone who's still harboring feelings for that lost love. That's how I felt when I saw my ex-wife with her new man. The sad part of it is that I know she still loved me but I was not deserving of her love. We can be such fools there's no way to describe it. Beautiful Anita and a beautiful duet.
@@rogervallecillo292 keep the faith
spiritual warfare is upon us I know it'll sound so cliche but I try One day at a time. Thanks, you do the same.
I’m thinking that she’s just about to faint. This is so awesome. Real honest to goodness country music. Love it
Back then they had Hank Williams...Now we have Luke Bryan, why God????
Just looked up Luke Bryan bracing myself for the wretched style of new country. Why God indeed!! Fortunately there's still some great newer country artists still putting 'the cunt back into country'! I particularly like Justin Townes Earle (his early stuff especially). He's walked some hard country miles like his Dad, Steve Earle, and his music is undoubtedly all the better for it.
"Drink another beer, bring it over here, back that thang up on my pickup truck"
Well, we got Tyler Childers, too. And Chris Stapleton. And Brent Cobb. And a bunch of other authentic country types. Hank was kinda the original outlaw country guy..
because this generation is a bunch of brainwashed fools
Why its not about the singer no more most of the country singer,s of my gen just sing other people,s songs sum dont most do ive played from the time i was 8 and ive never tryed doing anything with it. But to me the true wy of singer song wrighters are gone its all about puting on a dance show people like hank sr jr and the rest of the ones who were back befor my time are a dieing breed my god help us for now days most of these new singer,s and bands dont even really play or they use a computer to make there sounds god bless from the hills of carlina
Hank was the BEST SINGER SONG WRITER of ALL TIMES ,I still miss him SO MUCH
Anita and hank was a beautiful match vocally 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽AWESOME VIDEO ON Hank Williams ••••
Hank was a poet ....pure and simple
Y’all so right about Hank Williams. Round about the 50’s there was another good singer out of Nova Scotia Canada goes by the name of Hank Snow. Worth a listen.
Saw Hank Snow in the new Opry in the 70s.
Phil. Hank did a great 👍 one titled I’ve Been Everywhere Man. You want to know the names of places in the States, this is it.
Wasn't only his singing he had a way with his voice like no one even today can't even come close to being like Hank!
remembering those who taught Hank
When ever I hear about hank's death I start to cry😥
Tracy Kamrowski the living proof
hank Williams Jr stoy
these interviews are fascinating, amazing the memories these people have
Hank Williams was one of my distant relative's. i found out about three months ago. My father was adopted by his step father changing our last name to Crawford, because his real father drank himself to death. My grandfather was born in Banks, Alabama, and it just so happens to be where Hanks first wife is from. We traced our lineage back at our family reunion. I think its pretty cool, considering he's the king.
I think it's pretty cool too bud.
david crawford My husband's father was Hank's first cousin, they were raised together in the logging camps. Some of his pictures are in this documentary also. What line are you related through?
It's a bit distant, I found out in October and my aunt has the tree we got off ancestry.com. I believe my grandfather was hanks third cousin. Sorry I couldn't tell you more.
If I could ask you your husbands name it might help me a bit. My father was born a williams, but adopted by his step father changing it to Crawford.
Apostrophic Crime: relative’s = relatives
Settin' the Woods on Fire: Joyful. Beautiful. Sweet. My favorite country song.
One of mine too!
Hello dear, how are you doing?
He was awesome Love old Hank. Always have. One of the best writers in the business
Love the music and the family that you all have created. Racism is brought about for elections and corruption. I love you all. Please stay safe.
made me real happy to see this
God bless you buddy, thats the true authentic story, told by them that lived it
God bless ya for postin this up here
I only went south once to visit a musician friend who lived in Montgomery.
Jane, How do u know all these details surrounding his death? Where did u hear all this?
I
jane a sinner I
I can't get over how much Hank 111 looks and sounds like Hank Sr.
Nothing like country music
I heard hank William's in 1952 on the juke box I'm my father's bar in el.paso and have been a fan since
Best story of Hank I've seen & I've seen a lot !! :-) Don't miss watching this !!!!!!
My mother was married to Walter McNeil for about 1 year in the late 40's and i have a half brother that's 2nd cousin to Hank Jr.
Thanks for this documentary. I wish it was reuploaded all in one part!
Hank Williams sang songs that'll make you cry.
When I get to heaven, I'm going to meet this man :)
I plan on having a drink with him.😎

Are you one of the anointed 144,000?
Myron Huffman what's that supposed to mean
I lived with hank williams as a child with songs and guitar playing relations what a wonderful we lived in then
lots of songs i have not heard before he was great good upload thanks and regards
Hank was as real as you can get he lived what he sang about not like these rich kid posers who put on a cowboy hat and think there country stars
I used to sing this song when I was a teen. I loved it then and at 78 I still love it
Hello Barbara how are you doing!!
I love Hank Williams he's gone but his memory will live on in my heart forever
The look on Anita's face is priceless, I wish I could have that effect on a woman.!!!
Scottish John Sorry I'm 3 yrs late in responding but there's someone out there for you. You just gotta find her and by now you probably have. If not...I'm around and single.
Scottish John I feel the same brother. But don't kick yourself over it man.
Jamie Rupert where are you from?
Jamie Rupert
hi jamie, I'm 2 years late..im around still, holler back.
How do you know that you have that effect...
This says a lot about the mixed origins of both country and blues.
Most Americans today, aren't aware that country music didn't exist in his time. It was called the blues.
wise words from a decent man; pounded out the sadness so you could stand it [ understand it ]
Or bear it. 🙂
Wonderful....
Thanks for posting
So sad that his life ended so young
He died so young yet he is considered one of the greatest. Some of the greatest country singers like Johnny cash and willy Nelson looked to him as an idol. This truly remarkable.
listening to these Johnny- come-lately Grade Z singers trying to cover the one & only Hank's beautiful songs makes me very impatient!
I ain't Hank, but this old country singer sure enjoyed this friend. Thank you very much ~ Bob Coltrain Kennedy
Many thanks to upload !!! 👍😊
Wonderful duet with Anita Carter. One never thought of ol Hank as a duet kind of guy.
sent this one to my sis. she is a big fan of that old time country
Hank III is still rockin'! He kicks ass live!
Now I understand why almost everyone who songs his songs are terrible. They personally have not lived it. He lived it and sang it and felt it
My favorite story about Hank is his response to a question about how he was able to write so many songs.
Anita Carter...I was captivated by her..
Don Saxon you and million OTHERS
Yeah! But look at his mother, buildt like a Sherman tank...
Legend goes on and there's always an honor to even imagine him as "Woody" in the toy story... Love him...
Why have I only just found this, It's a wonderful surprise !!
to me Hank Sr will always be the King of Country Music.
Means you got good sense
Thank you for this. I saw footage I didn't know existed.
It doesnt get any better than this...........
Hard to imagine as colossal as Hank is these many years later he was as human as you or I
thank you so much for uploading this.
The music of my early life. REAL Country/Western. Not the tripe they produce now.
Hello dear, how are you doing?
Old country was a shared misery of being hungry, poor and blissfully ignorant. New country is mere pablum. But, isn't everything now a days? Old country and blues had soul. We have it much too good now. Thats what we share now, so music will always be bland, empty and forgetful.
Good comment , makes sense
Because it is all controlled now by music industry. Why did Jim Croce die in plane crash just as he was to launch his own record company bc he didn't make any ## off of his songs. Asking...
Ay-men, I been sayin' this for years. Thank you.
