I just got fitted and ordered a LAB DF3 yesterday. Came across this putter today and I've just ordered one of these. Have been gaming a Scotty Newport 2.5 for the past few years. I am looking forward to trying this putter out.
Ahh, the good ole Tear Drop roll-face. They felt great, but for some reason, I always found them difficult to manage pace with. It would just come out hot.
I had a friend many years ago make his own putter with a tubular head. This ensured 1. that the bottom edge never dug into the ground on a stroke (causing a mishit), and 2. No matter the angle of attack, the head never struck the ball below centre, which ensured a great topspin roll (no sliding).
This will be my 21st putter, all of which were chosen because they had some degree of weirdness. I would not buy an ordinary putter, too dull. Incidentlly, I have putted well with all of them, I go straight back and forward. Thnks Mr ShortGame!
It seems like this could be 2 clubs in one. I know you mentioned hands forward gives you a better roll, but that seems backwards. If you keep the shaft vertical, you should strike the ball at or slightly above the equator. But hands pressed forward lowers the strike to below the equator, creating a bit more backspin and skid I would think. But, that could be useful from the fringe or even light rough around the green. Hands ahead, lowers the leading "bar" of the putter, pops the ball up just a touch before it rolls. That makes it a bit like putting with a hybrid from just off the green.
@GolfTestDummy shaft lean is dependent/correlated to the players set up and stroke - but understand your points. The cool part regarding shaft lean here - regardless of forward, back, neutral - minimal variation in shaft lean will still deliver 0 degrees of loft on the ball. And yes, pretty dope from the fringe. Can even do a patented "chip putt" from short lies in the rough...
@SpoilerGolf Yep, that's true, and regarding loft, forward press or no forward press, you'll have zero loft from the "face", since it's a tubular cross section, but I was more concerned with the point of contact on the ball itself, relative to the point of contact on the face. Curved sole of the club is fantastic to get the leading edge of the putter lower or higher relative to the equator, but when MSG said hands forward got it rolling quicker, I thought that sounded the wrong way around.
Thanks for the review. Saw an ad for this putter and was curious. Kids got me a Scotty for Christmas and i’ve only got three rounds with it. I think I can wait!
I like it! When I’m struggling with the putter I too will turn to my 56 or 60, except for slow/long putts. I always seem to utilize a nice stroke when ‘blading’ a wedge. It’s also VERY handy when on the fringe or up against a cut line.
Its like a Roll Face putter made in the shape of a wedge(kinda). In the past I've owned round faced putters and they really do put a nice roll on the ball but I had issues with them being a little harder to aim and get the correct distance. Mr.Short Game, even if you made zero money with your channel, you have to be having a ball with all the equipment you get to try and review and courses to play. Always enjoy your vids.
This putter is based on a cylindrical headed putter designed by Harold Swash many years ago, which imparts positive top spin and illuminates the possibility of hooding the face
When i had the yips, I used to putt with my 52 degree wedge from range. Had to go claw but do get distance control issues doing it. I would be pretty tempted to give it a try if it was not priced quite so high
exactly. the cool part about Spoiler OG for people with the yips, is that you can grab this putter and just focus on rolling the ball vs. putting stroke. Helps break that mental barrier that causes the yips. Putting is all about rolling the ball - we are trying to get back to that. Roll. The. Ball.
I am not surprised someone came up with this new design. I've wondered for a while about the optimum place on the ball to strike it while putting to get the best roll and this new design begins to address this concern. The pool guy talked about hitting 3/5's up on the ball, which may be correct for best results in pool. Not sure it applies exactly in golf, though. I kind of like the idea of hitting it near or slightly below the equator and trying to create a top spin rolling action as soon as possible with minimum skidding or launching. This new design may help to do that.
Hey Kevin, totally agree. I've been using my OG Teardrop since 1996, works great (had it out yesterday), get a pure roll every time. I think Spoiler Golf should edit their website, as they're quote claiming that this has never been done before.
interesting design...seems like this brand is taking a different approach to what SIK does with their descending loft technology, which IMO is a game-changer. I tested alot of putters last year and pulled the trigger on a Cobra putter (that uses the same DLT from SIK - probably thru some co-marketing or licensing deal) and I've never putted so well in my life. If you haven't checked them out, I highly recommend! cheers and keep up the great content!
Went back to the Scotty Cameron. What happened to the Good Good putter? I would be hesitant to get this putter because I need more convincing that it makes more putts.
At Christmas sold my Scotty after years of use to try a LAB link1, was sorry to see the Scotty go but after a couple of rounds use with LAB it’s awesome, draining several medium length putts per round and getting better with it!
It's another piece of equipment that helps you when you have a swing fault or defective putting a stroke if you Practice enough you will be deadly with any putter
This isn’t anything new. I’m willing to bet the patent on the teardrop putter expired and this company was founded by a guy who bought a Teardrop putter in the 90’s. I had one.
Not at all. Our inspiration came from putting with a wedge - simple as that. So we embarked on a journey to figure out how to get the benefits of putting with a wedge but in putter form.
I agree, that has always been a big factor for me, when it comes to putters, will I be able to pick the ball up with it? Most of my putters are face ballance putters, because I like putters that are face ballanced.
Generally, I like it. I think the “face” height should be a little deeper (like the old Tear Drop), but I do like that the face is “off the ground” in front. I also like that the grooves run across the entire face, but they seem just a bit too deep. Take a Tear Drop putter and elevate the face and you e really got something.
I personally disagree, to my eyes it looks very dry. I prefer the lush greenness of my British courses, although the greens do look nice a smooth, like a snooker table.
Under pressure we amateurs do bad things with our stroke like stabbing at the ball or quickening the stroke and misreading borrows. I’m not sure this changes that.
Our Spoiler OG shows you when you are putting a poor stroke on the ball, while a traditional “flat” face putter masks your mistakes by applying unwanted spin to the ball
I always putt great with my 52 degree but I’ve noticed not as good as a 60 degree or say a 7 iron or less. I believe the BIGGEST difference between putting with my 52 and my putter isn’t so much about the contact point BUT the angle at which you hold the wedge as compared to any putter but that’s just me.
I recently played a whole 9 hole round with just an 8 Hybrid including putting. You can't teach feel. It's something that has to be experienced first person.
I used to have a "Teardrop" putter and it used the same mentality. I loved that thing, so not sure why they became irrelevant. I have to assume because it's not the best way. If it was, everyone would be doing it, right?
Just another gimmick to get your $$$. Give me a flat rock on a stick and after I PRACTICE enough it would be just fine. I guess they're slowly running out of ways to make money.
Completely Agree. All about confidence. We hope our Lead Edge Roll design allows players to have extreme confidence on the greens. Not everyone has to love it, but those that do, should be more confident on the greens. Let's Roll!
as someone who plays with a lab putter, this is intriguing. I love weird putters
Yeah, almost definitely going in my weird putter collection. Super interested in giving this a shot.
lab isn't even that weird tbh
that's why they make em

Hell. Yea. Let's Roll!
That won’t last long.

Love putting with a wedge...I bought this when I first heard about it. Agree, the roll is nice.
Where did you purchase it can you send me the link thank you
The best putter is the one that works for you all of the time. I’m still searching.
Try a maverick golf putter they are amazing.
The best putter is at the other end of the club?

Similar to the Teardrop putter from the mid-90s.
I'M STILL GAMING THE TD 41 AND TD 42
Absolutely that is what I was going to say. That it reminds me of the old TearDrop putter.
I still use my teardrop putter 👍🏽
I played a Teardrop Zebra Z2 for many years, they are great for a hands forward stroke.
THANK YOU, finally someone that review new tech
I just bought one. It comes next week and I’m looking forward to giving it a go.
Reminds me of the old “Tear Drop”radius faced putter. Great rolling putter.👍

I have used a teardrop putter from 10-15 years ago for some time. Only thing I don’t like about it is that it’s too light
That practice green is pretty freaking fast!
I really like the top line on the spoiler. Would you switch it out for the scotty though?

The Teardrop putter used very similar technology decades ago. I loved it, but it never caught on.
Still using mine today
Looks fascinating!
I have a teardrop putter that I use today and it still works find. I like this idea but for the money, I will stick with my teardrop.

The Cobra works great with DLT
@@vicgeier3482 glad you're enjoying as well!
I need to cover up the silver top with some carbon fiber though, a bit of glare and alignment marks need to be fixed, no biggie though.

I'm guessing some where in Georgia, nice overseed?
If it improves my putting and distance control, I'd put it in the bag.

I still have a teardrop putter from 30 years ago. Still love it. Similar design. Rounded face
I was wondering when someone was going to make a putter like that to reduce mishits
Great Putter. Thanks for the review...
Thanks for showing it to me Matt
It's another piece of equipment that helps you when you have a swing fault or defective putting a stroke if you Practice enough you will be deadly with any putter
The idea seems similar to that of "True roll" putter.
Eee!!! Interesting putter! Thank you! I can't pick-up a ball with my Phantom X 12 either. Not a deal breaker.
What is it like to throw! Does it hold it's loft and lie angle after repeated abuse?

Everything has already been done. This is the Teardrop putter.
Much smaller radius. Increased roll. Off center hit forgiveness...Spoiler wins....
❤❤ good video I want one where can I get it
Tear drop started this back in the early 90s. Old concept that Tear drop had trouble getting the consistency of feel of the putter.
I warm up chipping a few and putt with my wedge.
thats wild!
I’m really hoping to see you hit one out of the bunker with this. 😂
You don't have to scoop the ball up, the ball rolls on to the spoiler and its just a case of lifting the club. It's easy,
you got it, sir!
I have always thought of putting rails on the bottom of the putter like my Cobra fairway woods. Don’t know if that is legal?
try using your foot to flick the bal on the back of the putter to flip it up lol
It looks like there is a big backup behind you
Generally, I like it. I think the “face” height should be a little deeper (like the old Tear Drop), but I do like that the face is “off the ground” in front. I WANT that putter!!!! That things looks like the perfect tool for off-the-green shots too!!!
I LOVE THAT!
I've wanted to C this forever!! Bout time.. was gonna make one with a bull nose look myself
Doesn’t matter what putter you use. If your aim and speed are wrong, you will miss the putt.
Have you ever tried the LAB putter and review?
You should have tested early in the morning with morning dew

You can - it’s very easy to pick up the ball.
How do you like that shaft on your scotty?
I've always heard, beware the golfer that you see chipping on to the practice green and never reaches for the putter. They'll slay you on the course.
So I found an old as heck Gorman putter that's shaped like no putter I've seen, u can't even find pics of it online anywhere

Atlanta National… nice course
The #1 most important feature of any putter is the ability to scoop the ball up off the ground. If it can't do that easily, I have no interest. LOL
you can scoop the ball!
Maybe it does well with armlock grip having it more upright
All I can say is: I’m gonna buy that shit
I thought you would have taken it to the lab, OH well
Still got my Teardrop TD42
It makes perfect sense to me.
