Thanks for your HONESTY and what appears to be genuine shock, again thank you. I've been watching for years and this may be the shortest review of a product that I've seen you do. For me, it makes sense. Friction on the top of the putter and the 'scoop' towards the back of it looks like it will not drag or get caught by the turf. Would like to see it on the course!
It’s quite clear on the video, you pulled the 9 footer. No putter could have saved you from that. So not the putter’s fault. This is not really original. Teardrop made Roll Face Putters decades ago. Do you remember Ram Putters? I have a Ram shaped putter made by Bettenardi, designed by Teardrop with a roll face with grooves similar to this putter. It’s visually stunning in my opinion with absolutely first class build and puts an end over end roll on the ball every time. This idea really works. Rick, put it in your bag is my advice. You might find it runs a bit further, as it rolls the ball right from the start instead of skid and roll but you will get used to that after a while and adjust your backswing length to compensate. Give it a real go. I think you will love it.
Putter manufacturers use every nit of tech going to get our putts rolling faster and the Rick shields of the world always miss understand it all. imagine being an engineer working on this for years and then this dufus is your spokes person to the world! I bet they send him a letter telling him all about it and he throws it in the bin.
Maybe not an entirely new concept, but this is a much more extreme design than the original curved-face Teardrop putter. And patents only last 20yrs in the US.
Another great review Rick. I would love to see some on course testing as well but in weird lies. One area I could see this putter potentially helping is when you are on the edge of the fringe, or maybe just an inch or two in to the rough but want to putt it. Testing out all those various lies and situations where your putter might get snagged by the grass ... throw in a few bunkers while you're at it
This putting setup you've got (with the practice mat and all the light-guided visuals) is what has changed your putting game. It's making a huge difference in your practice which has made a huge difference in your game ... And, it's made me jealous.
I forgot my putter once and played a round putting with my 56. Really enjoyed the feel! But sometimes caught it off angle obvs! Very intrigued by this…
I am sooo glad to see this! I have always thought that using the leading edge of my wedge gives me a better role on my putts. Glad to see im not the only one. Gonna get me one
If that gives you better roll you are probbaly hitting down on the ball with your putter/delofting the face at impact driving the ball into the ground, it's almost impossible to do that with the leading edge of a wedge. Buy this or just fix how you putt.
This putter is based on a cylindrical putter designed many years ago by Harrold Swash, which basically imparts top spin to the ball. It also makes it very difficult, if not impossible, to hood the face.
Looks good. Hard to hit the club into the ground first too like we all often do. Seems like it would just bounce off the green giving a solid hit. I might want one!!!
Thanks for posting this video. I couldn't sleep last night and ended up ordering one. 35" $482.00 CDN with shipping. Can't wait to give it a roll. What a neat concept
I’d love to see a ranking of all of the putters you’ve reviewed in, say, the last 2 years. Including these gimmicks. Just really curious to see how they all stack up. Your Ping, the LAB DF3, the little barrel one.. that would be so fun.
That design should benefit puts from off the green. From the fringe, place the ball back in your stance a bit and it should add lift, helping it skim over the fringe. From taller grass off the green, hit below the ball center line and chip with this putter. Many golfers use a putting stroke when they chip with a wedge or iron from just off the green. This putter may make that put chip shot easier to pull off. I’ll know soon. I just ordered this putter.
Rick, I wrote you off 3 months ago. Yet, your last three rounds with Langer and Pete were some of the best golf you’ve videoed. I hope we hear what changes you’ve made?
Ya the tear drop roll face came out over 20 years ago. The face was smooth, though. I like that they incorporated grooves into it and usually patents only last 20 years...
I love these videos when you find something so unique but so fit for purpose! HOWEVER, pleaseee take it out on the course!! I always sit and wonder, 'why the hell would you not just use it!'. I thought the same with the Lab putter too and never saw it in the bag.
A week ago I was invited to a golf funday and although I couldn’t make it for the tee time(work), I joined them later and shared a set as mine was at home. I didn’t like the guys putter so I took his blade sand wedge and they couldn’t understand how I could hole out most hole with ease.. I love this idea..
I assume it works because it doesn't lift the ball, like putters with 4 degree loft. That combination of hitting the center of the ball, but it not breaking contact with the surface starts it rolling immediately. However, its reliant on a consistent lie on a consistent surface. Different lies will make the ball react differently. Using it on artificial surfaces is no test
Very interesting concept to be honest.. When you pure a putt with a wedge it does feel good! When you take out the unpredictability of where you strike the ball it must be nice
Can you please test the Cleveland smart sole wedges, they just came out with a lob wedge and it’s pretty great. the Hy-wood is also amazing Cleveland needs some HIT love!
I love my smart sole C and S, people at my course always ask what they are once I hit good shots with them , but they never buy them, and I love to watch them continue to duff everything with their vokeys! Cleveland seem to make them hard to buy though, never many options in stock anywhere. Are you sure they do a "Lob" all I see in the smart sole 4 is the Chipper, gap and sand. or are you seeing the 58deg sand as a lob wedge?
Fair play to the company for designing it. It was the same when lab putters came out, they were and still are a weird looking putter but amazing to put with. This one could be the next big thing for the perfect roll. Gotta test it on the course Rick. Give a 9 hole stroke play test.
Clever because it looks like it is easier to put a good roll on the ball. I have a tendency to hit down on my putts from time to time which puts back spin on the ball. Also this would surely be better for those putts when the fringe is behind the ball.
Honestly I can see how good the concept is. I've seen putts that jump sometimes and it's like backspin on the ball at some courses. But if the ball is slightly forward of my stance and i hit up on the ball it rolls way better. Similar how this is designed. Cool idea.
Let's call it an improvement on the original Teardrop putter....which did have sound physics behind it, and some people really liked. I want to try this.
Ricky Fowler does something to get the same effect, he will float his putter right before he strokes the putt and hits center of the ball with a semi upstroke. This just takes having to float your putter out of the problem (I have tried to float it but wobble lol) By By bouncy putts
What is driving me crazy right now is this was my putter idea, but if you don't have the money and you don't act on your ideas somebody else will. I wish them success!
seems like it's minimizing the "skid" phase of the putt when you hit the ball above the equator line. with the added "up" angle, it does seem like it would roll pretty good out of the gate. interesting!
2:40 - Taken better part of 3 minutes, but he's going to hit it now! 3:07 - Ok, this time he's going to hit it. 3:27 - OH FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! 3:36 - Hits it.

I really want to see it from the edge of the fringe, slightly out of the second cut type of shots where traditional putters can get caught up I feel like this one would shine. And I also think it would be nearly impossible to lose concentration and dig into the green with this putter it’s like it has bounce and would just glide through any type of stroke and at least make solid contact so no leaving it short. I’m genuinely intrigued not gonna lie. 😂
I got one. I loved it from 20 feet in. The further out I got I had difficulty not putting ball into the air. My technique may have been poor on longer putts.
That probbaly mean on longer swing your are transitioning into a chipping stroke rather than a putting stroke, the longer the putt the more I widen my stance.
Rick doing exactly as it designed to do face just below the equator with up ward facing groves. Will put a pure end over end roll on the ball . Like to see it use on a real green with some brake .

Exactly what I thought but the face is sharper with this one. I would buy one but not at £230

That click it makes is so satisfiying . Seems like a good concept, it focus all the force into a smaller spot rather than a full face.
