Ice Out 2024 Canoe Trip Shakedown - Adirondack Trout Fishing & Canoe Camping Solo

- After the mild winter we had up north here, I managed to get out on my earliest ice-out canoe trip to date! April 1st! This trip is really just a shakedown to get ready for the rest of the 2024 canoeing season, but I still managed to find a few good fish, a great spot to camp, and some excellent food to eat. My trip was cut a little short by some adverse weather, but I still managed to have an absolute blast enjoying the solitude and serenity of the Adirondack Mountains.

Awesome, buddy. Can you imagine seeing these places in pre-colonial times?? Back when the timber was truly virgin??
Good to see you still out there, brother. Keep grindin'.
I love reading about what it was like, just way of life we will never see again.
Great shakedown, watched while camped on Polliwog Lake….windy and rainy so hunkered down and watched.
Nice video again man. Our trip was amazing. See ya soon.
Can't wait!
Jay, I used to paddle the Adirondacks 30 years ago and now I'm going back in late May, I found your channel while researching my trip, awesome channel! I've watched a lot of your videos, Thanks for the awesome content!
Welcome aboard, and thanks for watching! Maybe we will run across eachother out there somewhere!
There is nothing more exciting than that first fish of the season. I like the new gear! Always enjoy your video's and looking forward to the next one!
Just subbed, I live 30 min north of Syracuse and my family has been going to the Adirondacks by Old forge for 50 years and I've been going since I was 2 months old and I'm exactly your age. Your videos bring me peace and relaxation. 4th of July we are going to old forge camp grounds, setting up tent and bringing mountain bikes. Gonna try that stickboy coffee too. Cheers!
I love the custom seats you have there in the canoe! 🙄
It's a sign of a well used canoe, I notice your seats looking quite pristine...
Lol
@@DaxWoodsWanderer touché my friend touche 🤣
Nice Jay. You get as excited about the return of the loons as I do. That snowfall was something else. Have a great paddling/fishing season.
Yay your back!! Love your videos!! Great start to the season! Nice catch!
Thanks! Many more videos to come
its that time of year!!!
It certainly is!
I have been waiting for the new season I have been watching old one's. Something else that is new you are drinking coffee
Definitely lots of changes from last year, it's crazy how time just flies by!
I really enjoyed this video. Tight lines 🎣
Glad you enjoyed it
I must say my friend, to me this was your best video to date. Awesome editing, nicely done man ! I need to get back to the Adirondacks again this season ! Cheers
I really appreciate that, and I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
I really appreciate that, and I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

I just did an really great trip with Jogn and Logan, the video is up on their channel now. My own will be following here real soon!

Cant wait to get out there.. thanks for the jump start!
Have fun, good luck, and be safe!
You definitely sound excited to be back out on the water again!👍
Oh, I camped out at the one and only designated campsite at the 7th lake boat launch for the eclipse, a few others were there but not many. The day of the eclipse though, the parking lot was PACKED! But luckily where I was there were hardly any people.
That is awesome! We had a good view here from North Creek as well. Definitely a lot of people!
Nice trip, I've camped there many times and only caught small lakers good to see the rainbows. Went to a pond you have fished today and got 3 nice brookies. Hope your season is going well.
Very cool! I really can't wait to get back and try to find some of those bigger fish I was seeing on the sonar.
your vids reminds me of all those beautiful Homer Winslow Adirondack paintings
It's truly something that can only be captured here in the Adirondacks.
Love the videos. Can't wait to get out there this year.
Caught a nice pike a few days ago, but really have the trout itch.
Can't wait for your 2024 season videos Jay
There are starting to roll out here, watch for more soon!
heading up today for a week can't wait it 2 am in the morning and can't sleep have to go to work still lol .
Jay, try a mooselook wabbler behind your Christmas tree and you’ll save a fortune on worms 😂
I have that BRS stove and it’s just as good as many of the pricier big name stoves I own.
Have you tried anything from Oscar’s (the Deli & Meat Store of the North too) down in W’burg? Those were two of my favorite places. I think the meat store of the north has changed owners since I moved. The last fire I fought before I moved to NC was the devastating fire at Oscar’s. I’m glad they rebuilt it.
Those rainbows were perfect EATING size 😉 😂
I actually have a few Mooselooks, I'll have to try it next time, I appreciate it!
You beat us to the punch, Jay. We got out onto Loon Lake 2 weeks ago, on the first day the temp hit 50F. Got skunked (again) on fishing though. Going to try today on 13th lake. I'm guessing this trip was on 8th lake. Thanks for the interesting history facts, too. What books do you recommend for reading up on Adirondacks history?
Good stuff! I am also going to try and hit 13th soon as well. Check out "Guides of the Adirondacks" by Charles Brumley. It's a great read.
@@DaxWoodsWanderer Thanks Jay. I'll pick up a copy. We went to 13 yesterday. Plenty of rainbows. Turns out that they received the largest stocking this year in the ADKs.
Here is a 10 minute vid of a canoe painting trip to northern Ontario that DaxWoods would have been such a great addition to: th-cam.com/video/OeExsEBwEV8/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=GeorgeAEadie
What rod holder do you ues
any chance your going to be up there 4/27 i am thinking of going up tomorrow to saranac
I was out in the woods, but was guiding a 4 day trip.
@@DaxWoodsWanderer i went up for a long day trip lol no luck great weather till rains came and i didn't have right gear or mind set. water temps were in 48 range.
i go up again in 2 weeks, cant wait
let us know what lakes your on
You are out of your mind going out so far away from land. If anything happened, and you fell in the water. You are dead. At least you are not in an aluminum canoe.
