"becoming social is easy" - proceeds to a 28 minute straighton masterclass about human psychology and social mechanics absolutely packed with information I myself had no idea about
I literally took a pen and notebook for this
much appreciate the knowledge! killer work

I am 25. I have delt with severe social anxiety and ADHD since I was around 12 to basically 21. I used to be inside gaming everyday after school, no friends or ambitions. I got scared to just talk with people online. But now I consider myself to be a social butterfly. The thing is to put yourself out there and try. I got into cars and went to car meets alone. The first few times were embarrasing and I did go home crying from a panic attack the first time I went. But eventually, it got less and less scary. I made like minded friends and eventually became comfortable with being uncomfortable. Now at 25, I still have a bit of social anxiety, but not crippling me to be a homebody 24/7. In fact, I can now start and hold conversations myself with random people. Use your interests and get out there! It will get easier, I promise. You will embarrass yourself and make core cringe memories, but that's progress.

I think it’s important to mention that normal social anxiety is very different from having an actual social anxiety disorder. But I just want to say that if you do feel exceptionally disabled by social anxiety, it will get easier!
Yes unfortunately the only way to get better at socializing is to practice which might make it feel impossible sometimes. But all you have to do is one baby step at a time. Use your ability to listen and observe, and curiosity about people as strengths. Speaking from personal experience, you got this!
    Great video thanks :)

This video is truly a very helpful and informative lesson in how to improve social skills, and I'm very thankful for Productive Peter's advice. It's also reassuring to people like me, who didn't understand that taking breaks from social interactions in the beginning can help a person build their social battery back. Then, the hard part (yes it's actually hard to do), is make the change. Flex it. Do it. Over and over. Fail. Then fail again. But keep driving and trying. It's like going to the gym. Be the person you want to be.

As a curious person I really desire to listen to people & their stories yet the constant, uncontrollable spinning thoughts, likely from ADD, make it a constant battle to focus on what others are saying & to stop talking long enough to actually hear them. I end up having to concentrate so hard that I don't retain what they said anyway & then internalize shame & embarrassment because I couldn't control that outcome whatsoever. In the end it makes social interactions draining for both sides & the shame amps up social anxiety therefore leading to less social interactions & ultimately a loss of social skills. The less social interactions mean I end up info dumping when I do have them. Meds don't help me listen but can slow me down noticeably then people react negatively because I'm not my bubbly, talkative self.. it's a lifelong struggle with no end in sight. Anybody out there have a video on that?

I think I can do this well once "I'm in" but for me the "starting things out" part is the sticking point. I have no clue how, when and where can I start a conversation, I go in a coffee shop for example, but I just drink my coffee, and no one seems to talk to anyone they don't know, so nothing interesting ever happens.

So, you have to: actively listen, try to be curious about things that you don't really care about, practice regularly and put yourself into certain situations, theorize about every person's alter-egos and public perceptions, notice patterns and pick threads in conversations, memorize and store important facts to use later, align your body language and intonation, keep track of changes of your correspondent's body language/ voice tone, keep track of contexts established in previous conversations, share vulnerabilities strategically, create situations with shared experiences, understand all the social contexts you're in, analyse group dynamics and understand the roles of people involved in a group, moderate the group to ensure everyone's involvement, establish boundaries and respect the others' boundaries, understand the underlying psychological mechanisms... and all of that is supposed to be 'NATURAL'!)

This is especially true when talking with the opposite sex and planning a date without really getting to know them can be taken as you just lusting over them meanwhile you have pure intentions

My social anxiety stems from me being FORCED to care what the other people are interested in, talking about, feeling. I dont care, thats the problem.

i feel that. it's hard to find meaning in socializing when people you meet don't talk about anything that you value

Indeed, "How to Win Friends and Influence People" highlights that to befriend anyone, we should consider listening to what the other person has to say. It has been proven that allowing people to talk about themselves is effective when you're trying to gain their favor.
Personally, I find it draining to listen to people when you genuinely don't care. This often leads to fake responses and a lack of authenticity.

It’s not manipulation it’s putting in the effort. I thought it was manipulation at some point too. It’s like any skill it is a skill to learn. Like anything you need to take breaks and take your time. It’s like teaching you how to invest in the stock market lol.

How can I collaborate with you on these videos? I feel like you make videos about all the things I'm already thinking about. The Strategic Thinking video was spot on and I've been having all those thoughts for months. It's as if you read my mind and put it into video form.

I hate when advice is like "Yeah so just like let it happen naturally, just naturally sync with the other person, youknow unless your autistic and this is litturally the most unatural thing ever then just fake I guess"

Kids, just go to social interaction high. Have a few shots of vodka.. Or a few pints of beer.
Social anxiety will run away. 😂😂.

I truly think your videos are precious and packed with valuable knowledge. I've tried my best to absorb them but have found myself hard to focus and able to retain very little info. I don't know how but I hope that you can somehow deliver your knowledge in an even more captivating way for people like me. (I can only come up with an example of arrange the knowledge into a plot of a coherent story.) Thank you🫡

I like the idea of your vid. I am glad it exists. But there is so much asterisks to be added... First of all, you frame it as advice for normal people. But the thing is, most normal people are normally socialized and don't experience any issues you list. This is like teaching ducks to quack. They know how to quack unless their beak is deformed or something...
I have psychopathic tendencies - I just don't have neural circuits tat do empathy and compassion. No matter how well spoken, eloquent and interesting of a person I am - anyone worth actually talking to will notice I am really strange and will either avoid or counter-psychopath with me :D
