Had a meeting in Wheeling about a decade ago and while out on a break heard the trip hammers going. Walked over and bought about a dozen tools right from their main office. They seem to have fewer of their traditional tools in their catalog right now so I’m glad I got them when I did. I retired several of my “Big Box” store tools same day!
Your comment about how people may react to the effects of a strenuous workout on a body not use to such a workout struck me as being funny because that's what I was thinking before you even said it. Of course you're going to breathe hard; who wouldn't. If I had tried that, it'd have been the same reaction to the activity. Someone half our age would have had the same reaction to the exercise. You swung it well.
I'm a R.N., and one time at the hospital I took care of a guy whose name was Charles Norris. Admitting diagnosis: right foot pain. No shit! Not the real Chuck, but hilarious none the less!
The 12 lb sledge is a little overkill unless you're a very strong person. Warwood makes I believe up to a 20 lb sledge, but bigger is not always better (you need to be able to safely handle the hammer). In some early 1900s tool catalogs I see where they would make a sledgehammer up to 50 lbs! Not sure of the application for that size. A warning to everyone is that all tools are made for a specific application, and are meant to be used in a certain way. They can be dangerous if used improperly. For example, if you have a splitting maul and you stick it into the wood to be split, and then you strike it with a sledgehammer. Anyone, anyone, anyone, what might happen? Yes, the hardened steel of either tool could chip quite severely causing injury. It's a good idea to always wear safety glasses while working with hardened impact tools. They make some pretty stylish safety glasses so that you don't have to look like a geek. But if you only have the geek safety glasses, better to look like a geek than to have your eyes damaged.
I don't see why not. It's just like a tomahawk handle. It can't slip off the end because of the shape. All the inertia of your swing pushes it toward the end.
I'm gonna resist the Bevis and Butthead response and just say it think that really depends on how hard you can swing it. Because it's basic physics that the larger mass will have more "power" at the same speed. But it will definitely wear you out faster.
You are in better shape than most younger folks.
Sold! Hopefully they have an 8 or 10 lbs. for me. Love that they're made in the US!

Cool
Great information. Great quality products. Awesome video. Keep up the good work.
Good review Brian , thanks for sharing , God bless brother !
I feel your pain, it’s hell getting old. When I was younger I have used sledgehammers but I don’t think they were12 lbs.
Had to resubscribe to get notified.. Happy Father's Day Bryan.. that is a good sized hammer. .
Too big for me now.. nice review
Get some John Henry! I'm breathing hard just watching you. I'm in the same boat.
I Love It great video
thanks
I really enjoy Survival On Purpose. I also enjoy ScoutCrafter on TH-cam. Tool restoration and Americana common sense.
There isn't a section of oak anywhere that could resist a 4 lb wedge and a 12 lb sledge. The real weakness is in the human wielding the tools.
I was waiting for water to shoot out of the ground. Lol
I need one of those Bryan . So I can fix my phone so, no one knows what it was used for . Made in America 👍

Hey Bryan, more than be on shape, try to keep an uniform breathing Rythm.

Yeah, it’s a hoss.
Have you ever heard the expression "too poor to buy cheap things"?
Nice video Bryan!
At a starting of video I Though, How You are going to do " BALANCING TEST " of it ???
There is a reason Lumberjacks got all the women!
WV made 🇺🇸
Is dat Thor's hammer ?
Can you really trust a slip-on handle like that?

Hammer is too big, more power in a 7 pound hammer
