    The missile knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn't, by subtracting where it is, from where it isn't, or where it isn't, from where it is, whichever is greater, it obtains a difference, or deviation.

    The KH-15 series are terrain-following cruise missiles whereas the R-3s are ballistic missiles, the latter benefits both from avoiding interception from ground fire during fly-overs and from relatively high speed on the strategic and tactical views. Be aware that if you launch an anti-radiation missile while your radar is active you will be the closest immediate radar signature and it will begin tracking the launching fleet, if you catch your mistake early you can attempt to quickly deactivate your radar before it turns about but if you don't the missile WILL strike the attacking fleet. MISSILES ARE NOT YOUR FRIEND ONCE LAUNCHED- THEY CAN'T DETERMINE FRIEND OR FOE.

      The explosions feel/look small, wish it zoomed in on sent missiles before target impact. Also, nukes feel like they do nothing except damage components when the target has armor and should feel impactful even if gunned down over a target.

    There is one more type of tracking, the Kh-15, Kh-15N, A-100 and A-100N can be designated to strike targets within your targeting radar range (the yellow circle) using semi active radar homing, this is done by clicking directly on the contact when designating the missile arming range and bearing. Be warned if you try to do this with a P variant missile it will immediately go active, lock on to you, turn around, and hit you, only try this with the listed missile types. Using this targeting method A-100 and A-100N missiles become very effective at destroying incoming enemy missiles.

    • @Trifler500
      @Trifler500 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      What is the difference between the Kh-15 and the A-100? I thought the word "tactical" meant for use inside of tactical combat, but based on what you wrote, that's not it at all.

    • @BobSmith-vi2iv
      @BobSmith-vi2iv 2 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      @@Trifler500 The Kh-15 family are all cruise missiles, they trade speed for maximum range able to go out to ~1600 Km at 900 Km/Hr. The A-100 family are AFAIK conventional non ballistic missiles they can only go ~400 Km but do so at 4320 Km/Hr. In addition an A-100 reaches its top speed much faster than a Kh-15, as for the tactical designation I believe that simply refers to the maximum range, for example the Kh-15 and R-3 would be considered strategic missiles.

    One important thing to mention about Anti-Radiation missiles is that you either want to activate them when their activation range (Approx. 130 km radius for KH-15P) will not include your ships, or to turn your MR-700 and MR-500 radar off when firing, because they will 180 U-turn and hit you. As a few of us have learned the hard way, the KH-15P's have no IFF (identify Friend/Foe) function, they only know "A radar exists, I must annihilate it", even if that radar is yours.

      It's safe haven, where you can rest as long as you want, without getting snitched on you by locals. You can find them randomly, on map sides without routes, or by asking from citizens, that you will encounter in some cities. They will offer you to choose from three questions they will answer, and one of them will be approximate location of hidden city.

    • @EpicAsshole
      @EpicAsshole 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Once you get a clue to indicate general area, you will want to use the ground mode on your radar, as well as IRST to look for the roads and structures (it should be a brighter spot on the ground mode of radar). Once you get close, zoom in on your strategic map and it should pop up once you get close. You will occasionally get a radio message (Saying something like "Sayadi wants to meet with you"), those usually come from hidden cities so if you look at the direction your radio message points, you should get a good indication of where they are at.

      There is two ways:
      1. You order the ship to get repairs. The repair will attempt to fix all damage and reattach all expendable items as on the original blueprint.
      2. Manually attach missiles to their locations. However then make sure to press ok when the renaming prompt appears, so the new configuration is saved.

    wait, so anti radiation and radar homing both seem to do the same thing which is home in on radar signal emitters - what am I missing here?

    • @caracal3892
      @caracal3892  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Radar-homing in this game means "uses a radar to find targets". However the wording would easily suggest it is "homing in to radars".
      How it works is that anti-radiation "homes in to radar sources". The radar-homing will attack anything its search radar finds.

    • @stevepirie8130
      @stevepirie8130 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      In RL radar homing is either the missile has an active radar of its own and guides itself or it is semi active thus needs guidance from the launch platform or another source it’s communicating with. There are other ways but won’t cloud issue. It will guide onto a target whether it has its radar on or not.
      Anti radiation is for soft or hard killing a radar. With radars attached to these ships I’d say it’s in big trouble if it’s radar stays on.
      I was on air defence many years ago but even forcing someone to switch radars off is considered a soft kill. It allows you to work unhindered except vs optical and IR systems.
      Have you noticed ingame if you switch your radar off if the missiles still hit? Some modern types could remember a rough location and the Soviets could use nuclear tipped HARMs so accuracy wasn’t a big issue.

      @@caracal3892 Ah gotcha, thanks. does the ai ever turn off radar? When is a specific scenario where one would be more appropriate to use than the other?

    • @caracal3892
      @caracal3892  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My guess is that strike groups have their radar on when you have been spotted somewhere and the strike group is heading towards that area. I also think that strike groups that are not chasing a target might have the radar off. And I think that transport ships have their radars off. To avoid detection.
      About which to use:
      RWR/ELINT = Will help you spot stuff at up to 1500km, if it is having its radar on. So this would be a good way to detect strike groups that are looking for you. However the information for targetin is within 60 degree brackets. So it is not very good for shooting missiles.
      Radar = Its target icon on the radar covers a 10 degree angle. So this is more precise for shooting missiles. The range however is 750km max (if you are flying and not landed).
      IRST = very low range, however good for ambushing. In the video you can see me parked with my fleet along a road. If you keep your radar off , the chances are good that an enemy strike group will be detected by your IRST within 400km.

    • @CATASTEROID934
      @CATASTEROID934 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      For an analogy imagine you're standing in a very dark room with a friend you want to find, you both have flashlights which are your radar emitters and you have eyes that are your radar detectors: radar homing is like shining your flashlight around to find your friend via visible light reflecting off them into your eyes, anti-radiation is like your friend holding a flashlight in the air and you finding them by looking around until the light from their flashlight reaches your eyes. If your friend turns the flashlight off suddenly you can't see them at all and if you keep walking to the place you saw the light last they may have moved since you last saw them!
      The Radar homing missile has an active detection method and sensor- that is it has an onboard radar emitter which illuminates targets and it detects the target by reading the signal returned by reflections off of target vessels and is detectable by other radar sensors just as you can detect other vessels' radar emissions, the anti-radiation missile has a passive detection message and sensor- it is similar to radar homing version but has no emitter of it's own and it detects targets solely by reading the signals emitted by the radar units on vessels and thus isn't as detectable but also will lose the target if their radar is turned off.
