I frequently remind myself that I should utilize my own website to showcase my work more than social media. But I’m this day and age of “immediate gratification” people don’t want to take a second or two to leave the platform they’re currently viewing to go to another. It’s a struggle. BUT if I’ve learned anything in the years I’ve been a working photographer, be consistent, persistent and authentic with your work and the clients that VALUE you and YOUR work will be with you for a long time!

I’ve seen so many of these videos in the last few weeks, and this is by far the best one. Really focusing on the process, the end product, and enjoying the content you make.

Last days I was thinking absolutely the same things about Instagram, that running Instagram and being a good photographer are completely different things. And entertaining people is a separate job, which I don't like at all (thank you for your words, Mitch, and I wish you success on any platforms!

I gave up to all social media. There are so many people trying to do the same thing. I felt more worrie to reach people and I wasn't enjoying photography anymore.

If I have to put it into a few words, Instagram is trying to be something that it isn't. While working perfectly find and being loved by many it became a shadow of it's formal self while trying to copy the new kid on the block.

I use Glass now. It’s an app that’s mainly focused on photography. A few creators on TH-cam post on there and I follow their work. It also has a search section where you can find images based on lenses, type of photography, or camera body.

The assessment and advice in this video are spot on Mitch. You're getting at a much deeper societal shift, where we all think we need to be successful and entertaining on these platforms to have value. Sometimes the answer is to stop playing the game if it's not the right fit.
"A lot of photographers just aren't really entertainers. A lot of *people* aren't entertainers."

It took me several years to build up fb and instagram and now it feels dead, for gaining clients and for people to even see my art. But this represents social media as a whole. Hopefully things change...

Brooo, this long form sit down content is good, so chill to watch on a Saturday.
Imagine TH-cam with the community tab, being like instagram/twitter, with the ability to explore long form, short form, and still content on separate "tab" or "Page", One up date for instagram would be able to just scroll photos, if I want to watch reels ill do that, I don't want to view both at the same time. can't handle the constant change of attention and hearing random stuff within seconds, its like driving a car with the passage constantly changing the song ahahahah.
TH-cam is the best thing Ive started

thanks for expressing what I've been conflicted about for awhile. While I like photography it feels like I have to do all of these other side gimmicks that I don't like. It's too bad since IG was a great place to post photos as a quick portfolio

I recently got sucked into the REEL creation and I felt like lost prioritization over my photog biz just to make a trendy video. Not to say that I won’t make a video here and there but I def snapped out of that trendy era quick

Instagram is finished to say the least, trying to be an app it isn’t. And that does leave us creators in a pickle, but it’s our art, and we should focus on what fits for us, and stick to our niche. I’m sure something will come around, be it Vero or another app… we hope! Lovey video Mitch!

It's not just about Instagram is about the fact that tech is advancing and photography is not as admired as it was before because we can create very high-quality content on our hands with smartphones.

For me its not even really fun anymore uploading images on instagram.
In the past it felt great, getting like a few hundret likes, nowadays I can be happy if I get like 50 likes. And I dont think that the quality of my images got so much worse.

At the end, most of us if not all of us are photographers because it's a hobby/passion that we have. To restrict ourselves to a single format of content that we don't even enjoy means that we are defeating the purpose of why we practice this art. People shouldn't feel pressured that they need to take reels to stay relevant, the best thing in such case is to allow ourselves to be creative in any way or form we prefer.

I used to get 100-300 sometimes on rare occasions more likes per photo now I barely get 20 likes bare in mind I did not post for months but when I got back to posting my likes fell really bad cause of the crappy algorithm forcing reels

  • @pematamang9268

Most decent Photographer or content creators not creating great photos and it just for social media and we don't need social media for popularity. See very popular photographer from 1920s or 1845 and there was no any social media but they still popular. Life is not gain or Loss, we came with nothing and we are not allowed take any containers with us. Be happy what you're enjoy about.

I pretty much just get endless reels of people doing martial arts, bag work on Instagram. If I want to see those friends and family posts or reels, it's already on Facebook cos they crosspost their Instagram reels :s
