This is a pretty broad topic so remember you can apply these principles to any platform. I find myself focusing the majority off my energy into TH-cam e and Instagram. Twitter/x and TikTok are not platforms where I dedicate as much energy. Choosing 1 or 2 platforms to dedicate most of your energy to can help remove some of the overwhelm creators have around social media. Another tip is to remember that any social media growth takes time and a system. I don't want to sound perfect because I'm not and I struggle with this as well. But creating a system predicated on the principal in this video result in compounded growth potential over time. If you post one valuable piece of media every week for a year you may not see results instantly, but when the days comes where one piece of content works these new viewers, who are discovering you, now has a backlog of value to look through. Thus increasing the potential for them to follow you and join your audience. Hope this video helps some of y'all. Thanks for watching!
The idea of "value" is relative, people value different things and you have to see what is that you want to transmit to them. If you want to create just art that is inspiring, that's quite challenging because there is a lot of generic (but good) photography and it's hard to get out of that and create something different that really stands out and it's perceived as outstanding in the same time.
If your content is more educational, a more generic art is good enough, because for a lot of people that's enough as a goal.
In the same time a lot of people are interested in gear, which is strange to me, because you can bait with this aspect, allowing them to pay more attention to your art in fact.
People doesn’t want to see photography anymore, they want to see the photographer.

Great insights into the topic! Social media contributed to me quitting photography for a while. The feeling of talking to a void, as you’ve put it, is extremely discouraging.
It was only not so long ago that I started to gain back my love for photography and came back to go out to shoot photos and publish content consistently on Instagram with the main purpose of putting art out into the world. I actually gained back the feeling of looking forward to taking my camera and going out to shoot. :)
I'm definitely one of those "I hope these pictures do well" type. I'm about to start teaching and giving back
Good video, saying that photography has become noise, social media has jumped the shark. Years ago people made beautiful prints that were inspiring, now it’s just and endless conveyer belt of mediocre images that are fodder for the masses. 😢

Great vid as always man. Really relevant to some feelings I've been having about the game lately. I posted a travel Reel from a trip this weekend and it kinda tanked but I really have to remember the actual joy I felt making it. Hard to disconnect the Like(s) to Quality association in my brain.
Side note - seeing the X instead of Twitter on the thumbnail made me realize how many billboards and business cards are now obsolete.

I chased growth on social media when it started and found the negativity was bad for my mental state. I was told for a long time that my vision of my work was wrong. It was only two years ago I saw anyone who did photography that was similar to my style. Through that person I found others. Maybe I was ahead of my time. All of these artists I've connected with on line are young enough to be my kid. I still do not pay attention to followers or growth on any social media. I don't want to start hating creating again.

May be a broad topic but it's worth discussing and giving these reminders because sometimes we get so absorbed into things we forget these basic concepts.

Unless you're hobbyist trying to become and influencer there is no need to grow your audience on SM. The most successful commercial photographers dont have a large following on SM, content creators do.
For those wanting to make money from their photography; take advice from those who make the majority of their income from actual photography.
Yeah, but my question is this if you are giving information to people that want to do what you do which fine I get it but what if you’re trying to monetize the specific thing that you’re doing how does that benefit you by telling them how to do this if in the end your goal is to find people that need your services? I don’t think I’m really interested in telling people how to do what I’m doing. I think I’m more interested in finding people that need my services so wouldn’t it be better to maybe give tips on things that may help your potential customer?
