Your cardy is really flattering on you, Roxanne! The waist shaping and ribbing to pull it in have worked so well, and the colour is amazing! I love it! Happy New Year to you and yours from across the pond 😊
I recently found a UFO sweater from years ago that was ALMOST complete except for a couple of inches on the second sleeve. But I never liked the yarn, I thought it would be too scratchy. I finally decided to just rip it out! When I got to the yoke, it was not unraveling easily so I just took that section of the knit sweater that was left and soaked and blocked it. It softened up remarkably and I have since been using up the yarn in all sorts of other projects and it is making me very happy.
I will be joining you for fix it February this year. There are a couple of pieces that need to be altered so I wear them more and this is a perfect excuse.
Love everything about your cardigan - the color, the texture, and how you modified the sleeves. Also interesting to hear your buttonhole discussion. Enjoy your travels and fleecy adventures!
Last year's FiF really inspired me to get through my backlog. I knew I wouldn't be able to force myself to continuously work on frustrating UFOs, so I decided that for every project I cast on, I would have to both finish that project AND one of my old WIPs. I was able to finally finish two big blankets, a pair of socks from 2020, altered three finished but unwearable garments, unravelled a half completed cardigan which I reknit as a jacket, and finally unravelled a failed cape project and turned it into a throw. I plan on doing the same next year with my remaining UFOs. I'm so thrilled to finally be able to use projects I was so excited to cast on! I wouldn't have done it without you, Roxanne. Thank you!
That Drift is gorgeous! FIF sounds like a really good idea. I have exactly five knitting WIPs, I also five quilts so I can get them out and figure out what to do with all of these projects.
Thanks very much Roxanne for all your efforts in education and communication and fostering a knitting community. Hope you have a happy new year. Cheers.
I would totally join you on the farm, what a great idea. With regards to UFO February…..I usually don’t have UFO’s. Instead, I have an overwhelming yarn and fiber stash. I knit, weave, spin. Way too many possibilities ❤
Love the cardigan! Your choice of button placement match with what I would do, and it ended up looking perfect! The loose ends finish project is such an amazing idea! And the shawl you’re finishing is amazing! Love it! Thank you for sharing!❤
Thank you so much for everything you contribute to the knitting community. Whenever I have a question or problem, your channel is the first place I look for answers! Your sweater is beautiful, and it fits great. I love the finish on the button bands- it looks like a couple of rows of stockinette, allowed to roll? I am going to have to give that a try! Happy New Year, and happy knitting!
I can't remember if it's one row of stockinette, and then the bind off (in stockinette) or two. The pattern is free, and there is a link to my Ravelry project page for the sweater, which contains the links to the pattern page and yarn page. You can read through the instructions for the band to see what it says exactly.
Hi Roxanne, thanks for another wonderful year of knitting tidbits and techniques. I love you and love what you do, and love your amazing, positive attitude. I hope you had a lovely Christmas, and wish you a very Happy New Year. I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time during January, and I look forward to seeing and hearing about all of your adventures and projects for next year. All the best!
Thanks for explaining the button holes on your sweater with the 2x2 ribbing, it makes so much sense !!! The sweater fits you perfectly and that color looks so good on you !!! Happy new year to you, your family and all your loved ones. May 2025 bring health, joy, new discoveries and lots of time for your creative projects.
I love the sweater you're wearing. I think the color is great on you too. I always liked cables, but lately, my knitting hands are having a harder time with cold, damp weather and cables. They just don't seem to mix. Hope you had a great holiday, and Happy New Year to you and your family. Thanks for the info on the Knitting History Forum. I saw the video you mentioned a few weeks ago. The processof discovery is so interesting.
Hello Roxanne! I’d like to let you know that the audio tracks are good. I have try the Spanish and the German. The voice is a bit robotic 😂 but is incredible what they can do. The normal colloquial talk is not a problem at all. the jargon isn’t really good. I have learned a lot from you and prefer to listen in original ton. But I can understand that can be helpful for others. Normally i don’t let comments because of this barriere. Sometimes I can’t explain in English what I want to say 😅. But I have improved my listening skills over the years. Thank you and have a happy new year 🎉
Rox, the Finnsheep item was fascinating! Can you tell us a little more about the farm/park? For instance, how is it that they don’t sell much of the wool? I would think it would be a good income generator for the park. Also I wanted to put in a link to an item I read on using waste wool as mulch for trees in particular but gardens in general but I’ll have to go find it.
The really good fleeces are processed and turned into yarn that is sold in the farm store. The white fleeces are dyed, and the wool is turned into roving which is then used for educational programs, craft classes, craft kits for sale in the store, and used by fiber volunteers to create various wet felted products. They limit the amount of raw fleece sold, in order to have enough for the farm to use for the various programs. There are a couple of spinners who spin up some of the roving to sell in the shop, as well. It all gets used!
I wouldnt worry too much about how 'clean' the fleece is right now. Since you are going to dye it it will rinse more stuff out when you dye it and set the yarn. In the very end your yarn will be clean. If werent to dye it and just spin it as is when you set the yarn you can wash it again and it will be clean.
I just moved and when packing I tried to keep all my UFOs together so I could have them ready when I am ready to start Finish It Time. Haven't figured out the timing of that yet since I am still unpacking and working at the same time.
Wondered if you could tell me the amount of ease in the Drift pattern to help me pick the correct size to make. I don’t really like too fitted garments and this one looks like it is. Might not put in waist shopping as I see some people did on ravelry. Thanks for all the help you always provide in your technique videos. Always an inspiration.
The pattern has sizing listed based on finished measurements, and the sizes are in 4'' increments. As I mentioned in the video, I adjusted the pattern to create a finished measurement between sizes, because the smaller of the two would have given me no ease, and the larger would have given me 4'', which is more than I wanted. So you should pick your size based on the amount of ease you like, and then knit the size that corresponds with that finished measurement.
Thank you for another year with you. Thank you for your channel. I have YT Premium and iOS but if I click on the Audio track have American English/original available. Have tried on this episode. R
Hmm, when I click on the Settings icon, it says *Audio Track (6),* indicating 6 languages are available, and then to the right of that it says *English (United States) original* and to the right of that there is a *>* I can click on that shows me a list of all the languages.
There must be a bug in YT, now I'm able to switch it. Have tried german and spanish. German is quiet precise and well translated. I'm not used to Latin American Spanish so for me is a bit strange but is quiet good made only some abreviarion and names are pronounced differently. All in all is good function. Although I stick with your English version. ❤
@@Richard_Szobi Closed captions can take 48 hours to be generated, so maybe that's true for the auto dubbing as well. Thanks for the feedback on its accuracy! I appreciate it. 🙂
It would be cool if there was some kind of avenue for people to offer up things from their "Nay" pile to other knitters who might want to finish them - I only work on one thing at a time so I rarely have more UFOs than the active WIP, and I feel like I would gladly rescue a "Nay" project or two from being thrown away!
Cori Eichelberger (iroc knits) set up some sort of system for trading/buying/finishing UFOs. I believe there is a Ravelry group for it called something like the Knitting Exchange. She may have a Facebook group or other place for it as well.
I hope it is a better translation program than the one a German knitting video used, (that translation had me rolling in the aisle, it couldn't handle crafting terms).
2 questions for any "in the know": 1) Is there a way to add stability to the "side seam" area when knitting a cardigan in one piece, rather than a back and two front side pieces, beginning at the waist? I am horrible at seaming, but enjoy knitting... 2) Is there a formula or general directions to pickup and knit around an armhole, do short row shaping over the shoulder, and decreases down to the cuff? My aunt can no longer knit and I inherited a baby sweater she started which is lacking sleeves and directions. Thanks!
A better place to ask this type of question is in my Ravelry group. There is a link to the group in the video description of every video on my channel (you'll have to scroll to the bottom). When you get to the group's forum, click on Start a Topic, and ask your question in a new discussion thread.
Yes, there are a couple of rows of stockinette (including the bind off). The Show Notes has a link to my Ravelry project page for the sweater, where you can get a link to the pattern page. It's a free pattern.
Rox, I have been following you for the last four years (both Fridays and Tuesdays) and you know I am from Spain. I consider myself as bilingual and I will carry on listening to you in English. The Spanish you are translated is South American and the accent is not very confortable for me.
I really enjoy when you talk about changes you make to a pattern and the reason why. Thanks.
Your cardy is really flattering on you, Roxanne! The waist shaping and ribbing to pull it in have worked so well, and the colour is amazing! I love it! Happy New Year to you and yours from across the pond 😊

Will you explain why you like the Finn in particular?and is there or could there be a video with snippets of you processing a fleece ? Ty !

Yes would also like to know.
Yes, there are a couple of rows of stockinette (including the bind off). The Show Notes has a link to my Ravelry project page for the sweater, where you can get a link to the pattern page. It's a free pattern.

If they're looking that closely at your buttonholes, they should just go ahead and start a conversation already.
It's me looking at them and being bugged by how they look that I tend to worry about more!
