  • Here's a quick video for you guys if you're ever interested in catching a snakehead! I caught them a bit different today (running a texas rig over weeds) but it's a great technique if you're out of frogs or want to increase your hook up ratio. Let me know what type of video you guys want to see next! As always, please be sure to like, comment, and subscribe!

    I live im st louis mo so I've only had the chance to fish for some heads a few time. My pb is 2.3. Those buggers really fight too. Remind me of a bowfin actually. Especially the way they jump multiple times sometimes. One thing I wish I'd have had the chance was to taste one. Keep doing what you love and fish on!👌👍😊

    Great vid! Are you using any leader, or just 15 lb. braid all the way? Also, the worm weights, 1/16 oz.? Thanks!

    • @NOVAOUTDOORS
      @NOVAOUTDOORS  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ll usually go straight braid for snakeheads. The weight varies, 3/8 oz is a good all around weight but you can go lighter if you’re in shallower water. If you’re punching through the weeds, I usually will throw 1oz to 2oz depending on how thick / deep.

    Nice catches just picked up my first yak plan on hitting this lake soon, before I make the trip down was wondering which area of the lake was this bank area u were hitting ? If u don’t mind sharing that is.
    Thanks boss

    • @NOVAOUTDOORS
      @NOVAOUTDOORS  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This particular spot hasn’t consistently produced like it did 2-3 years ago. I will say, hit each bank hard with frogs and don’t be afraid to punch through the grass with 1.5-2 oz weights. Sometimes those fish just want to see something a little different.
      Your best bet are areas where the weeds along the bank transition into shallow grass (2-5 feet) - look up a Burke lake depth chart and you’ll be able find these spots. Good luck man.

    Those are awesome!! I would love to see you go back in this same spot use like a YUM Houdini shad jerk bait in smoked shad color with just a worm hook in it and work it on the surface through those weeds or a couple feet under the surface when not in the weeds I bet the snake heads would nail it! I always see people fishing for snake heads with weird lures always kind of all using the same type and I always say I bet if they used a jerk bait they would nail em!

    its a little late but how do you find good spots for snakehead? I cant seem to find many. Ive caught one at burke lake over by the dam

    • @NOVAOUTDOORS
      @NOVAOUTDOORS  ปีที่แล้ว

      Throughout the spring, hit the areas that get the most sunlight throughout the day. Water temp will be slightly higher and should have vegetation before other areas. Look for slow tapering banks and move slow

    • @willcorbin8621
      @willcorbin8621 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NOVAOUTDOORS what about during the summer?

    • @willcorbin8621
      @willcorbin8621 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NOVAOUTDOORS also, what baits work for snakehead in the spring time? Still frogs and plastics?

    • @NOVAOUTDOORS
      @NOVAOUTDOORS  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@willcorbin8621 yep frogs and plastics are probably your best bet. You can also get them on white chatterbaits or spinnerbaits.
      Summertime you can get them on top water early in the morning / late in the evening in the same areas as the spring. During the day, I usually will fish deeper weed lines with soft plastics / chatterbaits.

  • @bmnp
    @bmnp 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Would you also specify what type and pound capacity line did you use for the snakehead? Also for rods, can a 20lb rod does the job or I need a stronger one?

    • @NOVAOUTDOORS
      @NOVAOUTDOORS  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Usually if I’m fishing up shallow in the weeds I’ll throw a 7’6 heavy with 50lb braid. I can get away with that if I’m throwing frogs or punching thru grass. If I’m throwing moving baits off the edge of weed lines I’ll go down to a 7’2 medium heavy with lighter fluro or braid with a fluro leader.

    • @bmnp
      @bmnp 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NOVAOUTDOORS thank you so much. Very helpful.

    • @bmnp
      @bmnp 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry for asking again, I am quite a noob; my rod is a medium heavy 20lb. Can the snake head break my rod? And in general, does it make sense to set a 20lbs rated rod with a 50lbs line?

    • @NOVAOUTDOORS
      @NOVAOUTDOORS  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I appreciate the questions man. You should be completely fine with that rod. Braided line has a thinner diameter than regular fishing line. For example, 50 lb braid has a diameter equal to that of 15 to 20 lb flurocarbon. Hope this helps a little

    • @NOVAOUTDOORS

      James Pisano id say your best bet for ponds would be to hit the south riding ponds and chantilly ponds. Pretty much all the ponds in south riding are fishable but do get hit often. The Fishbrain app is great for finding them but google maps helps a ton. Good luck man, let me know if I can help with anything else.
