- Perhaps one of the most thoroughly restored and tastefully updated CJ7, in my humble opinion. A great truck, and a rare opportunity to purchase for a fraction of the build cost.17,500 miles since new, 3000 miles since the extensive resto-mod.
As the owner of a ‘99 wrangler, I am geeking out over this one!
Just the way a car should be restored and it is pretty nice you never install trendy or useless stuff. I really admire your work.. Greetings from Mexico City
Hey John,
Thanks so much for posting these videos which are so informative and highlight your real attention to detail which, with your presentation, screams integrity.
Always impressed by the work of ICON... At this level the car is artwork !
Another employee comment?
it's not a car, it's a JEEP , or was ...fucking idiots
I like lifted jeeps but my number 1 rule is DONT MOLEST A LOW MILES CAR!!!
For the people that are commenting on the price of this restoration, you should research "Jonathan Ward", or "Icon". No one does a more thorough, attention to detail oriented, restoration. They use products, and coatings, that are the best available, and are made to last. NO shortcuts with his restorations!
Sweeet! Nothing sexier than an AMC Jeep grill and Hood. My favorite.
I had an 82 Jeep. I didn't think it was that crappy. It was a step up from my '62 Ford Falcon. The Jeep is long gone but I still have the Falcon. The Falcon has been up on blocks in the garage since 1995 resting with a bad motor.
As always Mr.Ward you and your company do really nice work. Neat off road vehicles but my favorite is still the old wagon . That kicks ASS.
Love the storage bin for cash and SMG......artwork? I agree.
New Mexico license plate! Right on!!
I don't have a warm fuzzy after watching this.
The blister lights have always been my hang up with CJs. Willy's and Modern Wrangler's have the recessed lights. Much tougher looking. The original paint had much more character, and much more inline with your brand. Didn't understand the change up choice on that.
I just DIG watching your vids. Its the way vehicles should have been made off the assembly line. When we hit the lottery, we'll be knocking on your door for something really special.
I'm all for trail rigs but a cj7 with 17,000 original miles I would find a beat up jeep and screw it up than screw up something like that
I couldn't agree more! Should have left it stock and rebuilt a worn out CJ instead!
Looks like you guys do exceptional work! Looking forward to many more videos. You guys should start them up for us though!
Flawless my butt! You painted the top the same color as the tub and doors!! And a hideous purple at that! Gag gag!!
Jesus, the color is amazing! I'm sick of the generic flat or solid grey and green tones. Not a huge fan of metallic finishes either. This is amazing.
My favorite Jeep restoration, amazing job, clean, simple, perfect
i love understated machines like this. the beauty is in the details. sort of an american land rover defender vibe.
Fact: No one does a dashboard better than ICON.
Great job. Still retained the factory look but has more modern upgrades. Looking to do the same with mine, just upgrading not restoring. The only thing I would change on it would be the rims. Looks beautiful though.
What a waste of a nice survivor. 🙁
Yes he does the ICON Dog,I am building a CJ-3A and will be perfect when done and way under $75,000,but if this is ok,I'd gladly sell mine to you for that much when done.
This is not a "truck"...it's a Jeep!
I would have never picked the color, sorry.
@@jaydawn2899 ... Thats funny cause you don't know one thing about me , GGG.
We have two Corvettes, 2017 f250 , 2020 xt5, and our brick house all free and clear and I can't afford your shit red jeep ? Buddy, you are living in a fantasy world, GGG.
Love this rig!! Great jib!!
for an umolested original, this is blasphemous... could have done the same thing with a rust bucket
+davey tee I really love what ICON do and the stye of vehicle they create. But I'm inclined to agree with you, CJ7's are getting harder and harder to find in untouched state. They should have used a already modified or a rust bucket for this project
Agreed!
Yep. Guy just HAD to have this particular Jeep converted because of its sentimental value. Two years later, he's tired of it again and wants a new toy.
davey tee yup
Gorgeous!
Nice work! as always
closing line-- you state "in January 2003"... 2013? listened to it a few times; doesn't look like a decade old film.
Price please?
Thing of beauty; from the color on up. Great work!
Great looking Jeep. Was that still an open front shackle?
Was just so thinking it was awesome, as an heirloom, and now its for sale? Surprised.
Great looking jeep no matter how you slice it.
Another A+ job !!
Great opportunity, make money while building and now reselling.
Ruined a collector item ffs! Find a solid cj7 that’s already been messed with gawd.
That colour 👎🏻🤢
What the customer wants, the customer gets. His vehicle, his money, his choice. And he doesn't give a flying F what the rest of us think about it.
Cjs are and have always been sketchy in the comfort, steering, reliability, suspension, and power areas. But damn, that's what makes it fun! If the guy wanted a jeep to be an SUV, tell him to get a Jk.
No SMART business person tries to dissuade a willing customer with a big wallet.
Having owned jeeps since 1980..i can deal with the modern enhancements.., but to change the taillights to those things is sad. Thanks for sharing.take care
Beautiful .. my twist would have been brushed aluminum wheels .. brushed aluminum grill .. not "blingy", but I think compliments the beautiful color of the Jeep .... Really well done!
Very nice build.
I own a 89 yj and plan in getting a modern v8 like the one you installed along with newfront and rear axles.
What number of price am i looking at??
Are the bumpers and rock sliders custom? Love the look
all well done, except for the stupid side mirrors, sorry but that's not classic neither modern.
Yes he will
Until I saw this video, I was proud of my '82 CJ7. Suddenly 4 years and 10 grand seems futile.
Not if you actually use it as intended and ENJOY it. Ya want a usable, real world 4x4 for 20k, or a 75k show pony that sits in the Garage cuz ya dont want to get it dirty??
if youve got a lot of time on your hands haha its taken me 3 years to be nearly done with mine still havent fired it up but i guess a lot of rust and needing to rebuild nearly every component on the vehicle dds a little time as well :P
I like the color did u do a yj with the same color
Why one woth 17,000 original miles? If you dont want rust at least get a rust free high miles one and what dis you do with the engine? Did you sell it ?
And it needed all that? How much is it if back the way you found it?
How long does it normally take to do something like this?
NOT A TRUCK!!!
IT'S A JJJEEE EEEPPP!!!
YOU FORGOT SOME SUSPENSION LIFT AND PUT SOME 37'S OR 39'S MAKE IT READY FOR SOME SERIOUS OFFROAD AND TO ME , THE GRAND DADDY OR THE ICON IS THE JEEP WILLYS FROM WW2 OR THE JEEP KAISER M715 THOSE ARE REALLY ICONS
The CUSTOMER makes those decisions, not ICON.
I could see the potential for a trans swap but why swap out a dana 300 for an np231!!??? An aluminum, chain driven case in place of a steel, gear driven case. And the ax (asin warner) transmission is okay behind an I6 for which its designed, but a 300hp v8 is pushing it. I'd have opted to keep the D300 (doesn't need a slip yoke eliminator) and just swap in an sm420, which even came stock in some cj's. Cool jeep but looks like someone got a free Dana 300 (or sold it and the trans for profit). But then again the owner bought a jeep and wanted something that drove like a car...
Look at the pic, that's still a Dana 300 case, NOT an NP231.
How you make it smog legal for California an how much does that cost????
You don't have to if it's going back to New Mexico.
Looked better before. I'd have traded someone who would have loved it as is and then use there's for this upgrade.
Cómo hago para comprar uno e importarlo a Colombia. Estoy interesado
I kind of agree
Tires are aesthetically too big ..vs rear well diameter. I agree, why rip apart a cherry jeep.
Whatever happened to this vehicle?
I'm interested to hear that the market supports high-end FJs, but not CJs. What is it about the FJs that people prefer? I've only been exposed to Jeeps and have no experience with the Toyotas.
fj's ?? whats so great about an Fj? its a toyota. what war has it proved itself in? is it american made? Fj's suck in my opinion.
i never said it was necessary. Just pointing out a fact.
I like both the FJs and Series Land Rovers better than any American made vehicle for serious off road driving. And I like the old ones better with no electronics because you can fix them in a TEOTOWAKI situation. That said the stuff Icon and similar modstorers/upfitters do makes for great comfortable vehicles that are cool for the upscale mechanically challenged clientele. They are much better on road and dilettante four wheeling rigs but hard core off roaders aren’t going to beat the hell out of that much money.
Watching this is was thinking “oh this is a nice $40k jeep” *$120k invested wtf**
pretty nice.. but heresy... PS I hate LED... prefer standard bulbs...
RIP Jeep - 1982-2012
Create another CJ, Mr. Ward! I miss it
Purple?!?
For sale?
mint originals are rare for jeep cjs cause everyone mods them
....johnathan wonka and the landcruiser factory
that is a great looking jeep but you sir are higher than a kit. you will never sell that for 75k. good luck.
I don't understand. The guy holds on to it for 30 years. Then he spends probably 100 grand to have you completely rebuild it. THEN he sells it?? How do people with so much money make such terrible financial decisions??
how much ?
I like the original tail light
Wow -.-
las cruces NM home of the best
But what year is it
"Truck?" Thought it was a jeep.
Good luck on that $70+......
Is this toy still for sale???
Badass
Would have preferred independent suspension.. Don't like this model.
"very refined idle" "it's a BMW 7 series color" -------- "This Truck" -------- really? wtf? Loserville USA
I have a 1969 for sale
And why molest the cj when 3 grand is a mew body and 18 hundred is a new cj frame plus you replaced the acles and stufd anyways so you really did not sabe mich by facking up a good cj
Dyslexic much?🤣
All good, but should have left the original paint.
Still has the crap stock brake booster and master cylinder!
Pretty nice but stop calling it a TRUCK!
Another classic Jeep molested by GM crap!
Prefer the Broncos
And then the cycle repeats itself with a stock fj40. SMH
You guys ruined that beautiful Jeep and butt raped the owner while at it... that's a shame! That's an awful color choice and a crappy looking wheel set up and front bumper for the amount spent.
Great job underneath, too bad it ended up so ugly
Way way way wayyyyy too much dinero
Defeats the whole purpose of an original don’t cha think? Should have just taken a rat and done that to it . The CJ Jeep was never meant to be what you guys turned it into ; yeah nice work , but you totally ruined a classic. To each his own I guess.
