Actual studies have shown that there's a correlation between high intelligence, swearing more often and using filler words. Using filler words has been shown to be because the speaker is considerate of the person they're talking to and is thinking about the best words to express what they're saying.

    • @zackestin1368
      @zackestin1368 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

You’re misremembering the study I think you’re referencing, which was a 2015 study that was specifically about DAT, which is way more about creativity than intelligence, and it isn’t so much that they swear more often, it was specifically
“ Participants were asked to list as many words that start with F, A or S in one minute. Another minute was devoted to coming up with curse words that start with those three letters. The study found those who came up with the most F, A and S words also produced the most swear words.”
That's a sign of intelligence "to the degree that language is correlated with intelligence," said Jay, who authored the study. "People that are good at language are good at generating a swearing vocabulary."
as per the study. Which yeah, isn’t really a sign of traditional intelligence at all, the same study also found that it doesn’t have correlation to people who choose to swear more in the day to day, just that people who knew more words with f as the first letter under a 2 minute span also knew more swear words.

@@shelleyjames4446 The irony is, the person being told they have an IQ in excess of 150 by some Buzzfeed clone is actually being swindled. The whole point of those things is to intentionally give you an *extremely* complimentary IQ so you click the ''Share This With Your Friends!'' button and let them know how chub your cortex is, thus bringing more eyes and traffic to the adverts surrounding the Presentation-style test (you know, those really annoying ones where you have to reload a new page after each question.) You have to be a bit of cabbage to fall for it.
The *only* way to find out your IQ is by taking a formal, standardised test under exam conditions. Princeton, Harvard, Cambridge, Oxford -- most prestigious Universities with solid psychology departments have a test that are basically the same with minor differences. It's the sort of thing that takes 60 minutes, (the typical time allowed,) not 10 clicks.
P.S. If you ever want to make yourself feel extremely stupid, take the Mensa test. It's specifically designed so that 100 is equivalent to about 150 -- and in order to get into Mensa, you need to get 150 *on* the Mensa test specifically. I wouldn't recommend it for one's self-confidence, but it is humbling. It's like swan-diving down the Dunning-Kruger slope head first.

I worked with a guy who was a legitimate genius. He was very, very clever at his chosen subject and has even invented devices that are now used in the biomedical sciences field as standard, but he was completely clueless about normal everyday things. He never bragged about how smart he was, and would often joke that he had a below average IQ when it came to common sense, of which he had little to none. I once walked into the laundry room to find him staring at the washing machine in confusion. They had just put in new machines which had numerous different types of wash cycles, and he was clueless about which one to choose. Most people would choose a cycle, any cycle if they weren't sure. He was frozen with indecision because he didn't have enough information to make the choice. That's the thing about smart people...they're generally only smart about their chosen subject because that's what they focus all of their time and attention on.

People pretending to be super intelligent are so infuriating.
Buddy if you are intelligent that much will become clear by how you act, not by how you talk of alleged achievements and how you form a sentence.
Not to mention truly intelligent people are very aware of their own limitations and know just how little they know. And they will tell you, not all of them are humble, but they are no posers, because they don't need to show off, seeing them in action shows exactly how capable they are without having to tell you anything.
No one listing accomplishments will ever be as good as they describe themselves as.
Quite the contrary those that can only talk will never be able to show off because they will tell you what they did instead of show you.
If someone claims to be very intelligent look out for if they actually tell you about it... people like those in the video are destinctly more likely to rant away and never wait for a response by you, because what they have is not high intelligence, it's narcissism.

Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis The Wise? I thought not. It's not a story the Jedi would tell you. It's a Sith legend. Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise he could use the Force to influence the midichlorians to create life… He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying. The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful… the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. Ironic. He could save others from death, but not himself.

I had mine tested when I was being diagnosed with ASD. see people who don't understand IQ believe IQ makes them smart but a high IQ just means that you can absorb and understand information faster and easier than others. I did a online test and scored average of 132 out of 3 tests but it was a free test so it's accuracy isn't guaranteed.
The funny thing is I'm also dyslexic so people will automatically think I'm dumb because I miss spell and grammar things and I let them think that because then they underestimate me.
Usually people with high IQ are good at a specific thing because that's what they put Thier time and effort into. Thinking you can know something just because you're "smart"
Like for me is cars and mechanics/engineering. For example as an 8yr old I learned to drive a manual car just from watching my mum drive and stole my first car at the age of 10.
My obsession with cars is why I was tested for ASD. Only people who think they are smart brag about being smart like the ones who are weak go around acting hard barking in your face but the ones who know they are hard have no need to go around acting ARD.
the 4 years old thing I'm pretty sure they can't test for autism or IQ until you're at least 10+
I was diagnosed at 10 with asperger's syndrome but now it's called ASD as we are not allowed to call it asperger's syndrome.

I commented on George's video "Americans baffle me", saying that Europeans aren't all that great compared to the great empires of Asia, Africa, and the Americas (bad explanation) and some guy named Simonengland (hmm wonder where he's from) said:
"@FishAviation Karl Marx and Frederich Engels were Scottish and they invented an entire political philosophy? I jest, but if you can't see your own contradictions, then you're not proof reading your assertions. Not to be taken seriously.
Communism is in fact the early Anglo-Saxon attempt at fair distribution. The Normans tried very hard put paid to that. But so enduring is the Saxon culture that up to this very day the concept of common land and common law still has some bite.
Starting a sentence with actually and then going on to put words in my mouth and then discrediting them is naïve at best, disingenuous at worst. .
I'm glad you pointed out you're an American student of history, I'd never have guessed.
Edit: Ref Normans. I'm not a student of French history, but my French friends assure me that the concept of common land was recognised by the Normans... at home. In England they ignored it as much as they could."
Naturally, after some back and fourth, I gave this man and his r/iamsmart ahh brain what he wanted: @simonengland6448 alright, well thank you for your insight. You teaching English definitely explains your word choice and vocabulary. I’d like to visit Europe sometime because I’m sure it’s a wonderful place. Remember that TH-cam comments is not a very good place for a debate :)
Obviously I didn't mean it lol. A lot of people agreed with me that he was trying too hard to be an intellectual

2:05 is literally the plot of a short story by a classic horror/sci-fi writer.
Kid born near a nuclear power plant in the 50's becomes super genius and starts corresponding anonymously with newspapers and universities.
Finds it weird that everybody just accept anonymous letters, then finds out it's surprisingly common. Why? Bc he's not the only kid who was born near a nuclear power plant and who has mutant intelligence!

fun fact: The battle at Thermoplyae was real but it has nothing to do with physcology(forgive my spelling) it was just a straight up masscre of the greeks. Persians trying to invade Greece had to cross the pass known today as the Hot gates, only around 2000 greeks stood against 300,000 Persians it was just a straight up murder. You may know this story as the 300 spartans

I took a developmental psychology course in college for my education degree. The main focus of the course was learning about the various types of intelligence children/people have and how a person cannot be judged by only one type. A person's scores vary hugely depending on how their day is going, how safe they feel, how many of their needs are going unmet on a daily basis, and thousands of other factors. IQ testing is fallible as fuck.
