PAINTING BUBBLED LAMINATE TOPS- gorgeous 1970s dresser MAKEOVER!

  • DON'T THROW AWAY YOUR OLD LAMINATE DRESSERS! They can often be saved! If this pair looks a little bit familiar, I did do a pair recently that WERE quite similar. It's just such a beautiful combination, the white wash with the paint, that I thought I'd share this set with you anyway. PLUS- there were a couple of issues that I had to tackle that you might find helpful, ESPECIALLY how I deal with laminate tops that have been damaged and would otherwise be scrapped! I opted to flip the hardware "upside down" when finishing this piece- I like the way this looks better, and this little piece goes from sad to HAPPY!

I know you might never see this comment since it’s a year old video, but had to say I so appreciate your genuine gentle, and loving spirit. It comes through in all you do. The appreciation of all the goodness of already created furniture, manufactured or hand made, is so wonderful. Your work is knowledgeable and artistic. Thank you for showing all your learned tips even like putting painted furniture feet on the clips!! Genius. I’m new to flipping and use it as my creative outlet for relaxing after much time spent in pastoral counseling and caring for others needing repair and refurbishing , so similar 😉

You know, I've watched a LOT of youtubers revamping icky furniture. While some are absolutely gorgeous, they are impractical for the novice. You do beautiful work that I feel I can almost pull off! You make smart decisions that are practical and not so time consuming.
Also, you're a January baby so I can't help myself.

I love the tones you picked out. It looks great. My little boy and I did the same to an old dresser that's been in our family since the 60's. It was falling apart and looked so ugly. So we moved it into the backyard and started sanding, did some repairs and then stained and sprayed it with a semi gloss clear. Looks brand new. And my little boy is so proud of himself because now it's in his bedroom. It was so much fun working with him and making a special memory like that with him. He was only 6 at the time but working with tools made him feel like a big boy. Thanks for sharing your ideas.

Bought a table from Ikea in a beautiful dark, almost black finish and the kids have ruined it with their science projects, dinging, scratching, rubbing the finish off. I thought I would have to throw it out and buy another but I’m going to use a sander and strip off the top and apply a dark stain and put a protective coating on it. Thank you for the inspo! I feel like furniture we threw out could have been saved if we gave it just a little bit if extra TLC. Hopefully I can save a couple things we have now because I really didn’t and don’t want to be someone that just throws stuff away. Tysm!

We bought a small three drawer dresser with a mirror exactly like this piece, in about 1970, for our toddler daughter's room. It had the same finish and legs but wooden handles, and you're right, it was very solidly made, all wood and lasted. Still in good shape when I gave it to a family member several years ago. 😊 I love to see sturdy but rather grungy things remade like this, thumbs up. 👍

Agree. Angie is so very humble and keeps it REAL, encourages we use tools within our budget. She demonstrates doing the most with whatever you've got. Watching her videos feels like you're beside her, figuring out the process as she goes along. And that figure-it-outiveness is what it is actually like once you get into a furniture project. Most of us don't have a pop-up paint tent, compressor, sprayer, surf-prep sander...

The real wood below the laminate was what I found on the glove box for my 1974 Jensen Healey. I was all set to replace the laminate with some wood veneer, but when I stripped it off, the original wood was too gorgeous to cover up, so I stained it to match the veneer I put on the rest of the dashboard. It's so crazy that they covered real, beautiful wood with that chintzy laminate. I'm glad you were able to give this dresser a new lease on life!

Finally got to finish watching it! Joys of motherhood!! Ah my goodness but these turned out proper wee beauties. Great job and yes, they do now look happy with the hardware upside down. Thank you so much for another great video. Big hugs from Ireland.

I sanded down my laminate pieces that I have at home and then used chalk paint and sealed with Polycrylic-totally worth it! ❤️Great job!!!!!

You are sooooo talented. But when I watch your videos and see how much furniture-crafting and woodmaking skill you have, I’m too intimidated to try my hand at all this!

I am in awe of your understanding and admiration for wood. I am just beginning my venture into furniture revival and I aspire to be as talented and knowledgeable as you. You are my hero. Lol. I don’t have a video yet. Like you, I am not comfortable in front of the camera but when I do I will most definitely refer people to your page. Thank you for letting us in on your process.
