    Tyler, my Rover mechanic uses hylomer on that gasket. Also, i've noticed those flange bolts come loose on me before, especially if they get diff fluid on the threads, so I add a small amount of blue thread lock to them. Time to get the big momma crescent wrench! : )

    Great vid, a quick mention on the "silicone" we prefer to use gasket sealer. We have found, at least here in Africa, with loads of water crossing the "paper" gaskets seem to seep. And looking at the state of you, they looked quite good. So maybe it was gasket sealer. Top tip. keep them well sealed and well-greased. That will extend the life of the shafts and members.

      Good call. I think next time I pull them out, I'll use some gasket sealer there. Plenty of moisture here in the Pacific Northwest, too.

    Hey mate, imo I used hd flanges for a couple years and found they chewed out splines on standard cvs because they are a harder material. I recently rebuilt the whole front end hub to hub and decided to go back to standard flanges as they are easier to replace. I find the genuine rubber caps have never cracked or come off for me. Just food for thought, love all your videos and how you make them keep up the great work 👍

      That's an interesting point, thanks for the heads up. I'm due for CVs in the next year or so, so I'll see how the wear looks.

      Yeah they’ve become my go-to for most of our vehicles. I think this price was a mistake though. I just checked again and they’re on back order with no ETA, and the price went up to $19. Whoops.

    Nice little video mate! Love the stop motion bit at the beginning! ( I must learn how to do this!) I also see you now have a winch bumper 👍

      Thanks! Yeah the stop motion thing is fun. Fairly useless, but fun. And yes, I just got the winch bumper on there. Feels better to have a winch when out solo.

    İdk I'd say the hd ones aren't really worth it. Mainly as they look horrid, though that is down to personal opinion of course. But also the standard ones aren't really known to break - only if they have been abused, which raises more important questions.
    Enjoyed your video and thank you for your efforts+1

      Yeah, honestly I just don’t like the plastic dust caps on the OEM ones. And for aesthetics, I had planned to find black ones, but when I saw these for $12 I just had to do it.

    What I've never understood is why hasn't a company like Terrafirma made a different stud plate so that Defenders could accept numerous wheels without a stud adaptor?

    • @tfrasca142
      @tfrasca142  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd gladly take a set of those if they ever hit the market for a reasonable price. I do love the look of the giant 5x165mm pattern, but wheel selection is a bummer.

      Wheel selection was worse when I had my first V8 90 over 20 years ago. I've had two since and had to use hub adaptors to get nice wheels, though the choice did get better before the Defender was discontinued.*
      Yes, the Defender WAS discontinued. That abomination that bears the name is a Discovery 6.

      @@tfrasca142
      Oh, they're capable alright, it's just that it doesn't have the 'Defender' DNA - of being hose-out, fix up, and rough'n'ready. It's a Discovery, and it's typical of how JLR have become over the years. They have deliberately moved away from the farmer's vehicle to what they mistakenly believe to be an up-market car company. They have too many reliability issues to be thought of as a serious prestige manufacturer. I hate the new 'Defender' only because it isn't one. Jeep stayed faithful with the Wrangler. It has its own issues, but it's still a Wrangler. The interior of the new 'Defender' bears absolutely no relation to the one that went extinct. All JLR had to do was update it...but they ended up doubling the price and building the Discovery 6. Do you know of any other car manufacturer who doubled the price of a successor?

    • @tfrasca142
      @tfrasca142  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jimskirtt5717 Not off the top of my head, no. I fully agree with you. The new Defender has none of the DNA of the original, and that's a shame.
