You know what my initial thoughts are, right? The Dickinson album has way more layers that need to be unveiled and discovered... bonus point for him. Right, the Sneap production is pretty cool on the Priest record, way better than expected!
That's a really concise analogy about the jigsaw, Mike. I must confess to having not had multiple listens to either album, Priest twice, and Bruce three times, but there's definitely more meat on the bone of the Bruce release. I'll almost certainly pick up the Bruce one but unlikely to grab Priest. Always good to see you, mate 🤘
Hi Mike!!! great analogy with the jizzag puzzles...... i have heard three or four Priest songs and yes it's very similar to the previous one and it's true very similar, now the new Bruce i think it's more kind of eclectic mixing more layers of different sounds and guitars, always love Roy Z's work as a band member. Two records i'm looking forward to add to the collection. cheers
From what snippets I’ve heard of both of these albums I’d have to say I’d agree with you on the ‘Bruce Dickinson’ album ultimately being more of a rewarding listen! Good to see you mate!🤘🏻
Regards the JP artwork, totally agree with you. Why they didn’t use the reverse image of the winged knight I don’t know. Bit cliched maybe but a lot better than the shield image
Good to hear your thoughts Mike. Yeah agree that Priest guitars aren't that heavy, perhaps they were trying for a different sound. And yeah the artwork isn't the best but apart from that it's a very strong album and a good follow up to Fire Power. Also agree with you that Bruce's album has a lot of depth to it. I've listened to it quite a lot and I'm still hearing different things I hadn't noticed before. Overall two excellent albums imo.
Solid reviews on both albums, Mike! Always enjoy your thoughts and opinions on certain albums. I never listened to the latest Bruce Dickinson album. But, I genuinely enjoy the new Judas Priest album.
We are actually doing an album wars episode this week on Sea of Tranquility with a panel of 7 or 9 voting for their favorite. I will say, like you, the Andy-Sneap-ness production of the Priest album doesn't bother me as much as it usually does...but it's still there. And one is a love letter to the fans. The other is a labor of love. I think you can figure out which is which.
I totally understand what you’re saying. I like both of them. But I think I’m gonna go back to the Bruce album more often because it’s getting better the more I listen to it, while the Priest album was kind of at its best on the first listen. And I don’t understand the complaints about ”Face In The Mirror” at all. It’s a great track. Take care Mike!🤘
Great video Mike, and some interesting perspectives on both albums. It's not often you see a 9/10 review so crtitcal of an album as you are of the new Priest! Still, a very balanced review of both, I'd say. I haven't actually heard either of them yet, as I plan on buying both and want to hear them for the first time on physical media, but I'll bear your comments in mind when I give them a listen. Having grown up listening to Sneap-produced albums and others of a similar style, I actually really like that modern sound, but I can totally understand why you wouldn't. Cheers! 🤘
I'm definitely enjoying both albums. The Bruce album is more interesting for me because of the different layers to it where as with Priest it's always gonna do what it says on the tin. Great video mate
Great video Mike, I can’t comment on the Priest album yet, got an email from Priests official web store that my LP+7” will hopefully ship next week, “manufacturing delays” it said 🤬 and I already knew my CD was going to be shipped a week late, I ordered it from Japan along with the new DragonForce so get to wait. I do have Apple Music so I’ll use that for now. As for Bruce, I really like that album, great mix and mastering, though a couple songs, here’s looking at you “Sonata” never get going, seems to me to be a waste of 10 minutes
Enjoyed this review mate, no fanny about or whaffling. Just honest and to the point of the listener. Seeing Priest next week so assume they'll play a fair few tunes from the new one. Already seen the shirts being £40 so that's a right off for me instantly. Bruce I ain't fussed about but may try it out at some point.
Glad you liked them. I’m enjoying them both a lot, I did a rare, for me, review of Bruce’s album. Question. Have you seen anyone mention the comicbook character (Created by Lee Falk the man behind the Phantom) Mandrake the Magician when mentioning the Bruce Dickinson album? Is it really just me who has been thinking about that?!? 😄 Cheers from Morten briefly in Oslo 🇳🇴
Great and honest video Mike. I hope you gave us your 2 cents on these records For me the JP is a 9/10 and the BD is 8/10. I am not very keen on resurrection man and sonata. The low points of the JP are still good musical moments imo. Nevertheless I kind agree with you with the fact that in the future I might return more to the BD album
Another brill wee video Mike, i love your no messing straight to the point opinion.... As for the album art work It's shit hahaha. Bought both albums today but haven't gotten around to listening to them yet. Incidentally, Priest would have paid a princely sum for the album artwork as it is the work of illustrator Mark Wilkinson of early Marillion, Fish, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest fame. He was responsible for the last two Maiden albums plus nearly all the Priest albums since Ram It Down back in 1988. Have a heavy metal Sunday mate.😂
Nice objective reviews here on both lps Mike mate. The priest Lp sounds great to me, I need to give the Dickinson album more listens. The slap head is looking good son! Suits you mate 🤘🏻
The artwork on the latest Saxon album is way better than these two. I think. Honestly thought when I first saw the Judas Priest for order, that it was not going to be the final artwork. I do like the music on Priest and like you said the Bruce Dickinson is a grower. I need more listens before I will think about picking it up. Cheers Mike.
It's got that lyric video feel to it the album cover hasn't it. Cheers dude

I love the new Priest and Saxon albums, just got my account back after a few years of jail time by the PC Coppers who don't like old Northern White blokes having a different view on whether grown men who identify as females should use a ladies toilet. Fuck them, great to comment on your channel again and sub. Take care bonnie lad.
I think people ranking albums like these 9 out of 10 is very high, when u consider that 10 is as high as you can go and applies to the best albums of all time. Are these as good as the greatest albums of all time. No way in my opinion anyway and not even close.
Spot on brother…. Bruce’s album gets better and better with each listen…. The only song I have issue with is Mistress of Mercy… the song simply does noting for me… it’s uneventful … every other song seems to evolve with each listen. Priests new album I do really like but for different reasons… mainly cause it grabs you by the balls and doesn’t let go til the end… top 3 tracks are “The Lodger”, “Crown of Thorns” and “Devil in Disguise “….. “The Lodger” is wickedly awesome. Very pleased to have both records in my collection
I haven't heard either album yet, but I already understand what you mean about the depth. A couple of weeks ago, I did a deep-dive on Judas Priest's discography. Listened to everything in order starting with their first. Haven't finished it out yet, but I realized that I prefer their stuff from the 70s. The newer stuff is good, but it's pretty blatant. No real nuances.
@@metalmickeyI've found a lot of good music doing those binges. I watched that Ragefist Alice Cooper video you recommended. Don't really like Ragefist, but the video was good. Watched several others, including the Priest one. He makes some good points even if I disagree with a lot of his opinions.
Ill get Bruce on vinyl at some point, no rush as there's loads of stuff I want first lol - just hope its better than the last few Maiden albums ! You've been watching too much Dragons Den - Priest have had dodgy song titles forever - and for that reason im out
I got The Mandrake Project the day it was released and I can confirm that it’s much better than the last Maiden album. As for the JP album I’m just not excited about it and might not buy it.
For me, between these two, Bruce's release clearly takes the cake. Very creative and diverse tracks, it's not perfect but it's still a solid 8/10. Priest's a bit generic and repetitive - 6.5/10.
Bruce Dickinson I would give a 8.5/10 the more I listened to it the more I enjoyed it I’m tempted to venture out of my comfort zone and listen to the JP catalog
Well I don't mind all those albums but Defenders is a snooze fest at the back end. Screaming has Bloodstone which is the most atrocious song ever and Stained Class has White Heat Red Hot which is another pile of turd. This new one doesn't have anything as bad as those songs
Those albums aren't reliant on overproduction like these newer ones. Those earlier records sound raw. The Sentinel is better than anything on this record!
Rubbish Wtf is up with Sneaps production he produces Accept etc. The album is awesome. Dickinson suffering from all the hype, comic etc and just as Maiden people never seem satisfied, half wants to go back to 80s 90s Maiden why shouldn't they go into longer songs at the end of the day its Harris's band. 50 years of Priest. Sick of people saying last 2 Priest are favourites. When did people jump on board 2014 ? Ffs 19th album what about the others Sin After Sin Sad Wings of Destiny etc British Steel Painkiller Screaming For Vengeance jeez classics. Halford is the Metal God fact !!!!!
@metalmickey rubbish they have made some of the most iconic metal songs of all time. Too many people sh*tting on producers wtf I know nothing about production but I know awesome metal songs. So Beyond The Realms of Death, Victim of Changes Sin After Sin Genocide etc badly produced. Unleashed in The East one of the greatest Live albums of all time along with UFO, Scorpions -Tokyo Tapes Deep Purple-Made in Japan.
I’d score Priest 5/10 It’s so processed and light weight. I’d say it’s shocking that the band who made British Steel made this album. But it’s Priest in name only to me. It’s like buying cheap ham. Yes it says ham but but it’s not good. I don’t like Dickinson, wouldn’t listen to his ‘music’.
I fully agree with The Mandrake Project album gets better and better with every listen. It's a very good album.🤘🍺
Its meandering and pretentious. Too many Iron Maiden songs linger on too long.
Priest album freakin rules
Both are fantastic albums. Judas is better for me, but that's my opinion.
You know what my initial thoughts are, right? The Dickinson album has way more layers that need to be unveiled and discovered... bonus point for him.
Right, the Sneap production is pretty cool on the Priest record, way better than expected!
I always dread his production but it's not bad at all this time. I just like vintage sounding and wish it would come back
That's a really concise analogy about the jigsaw, Mike. I must confess to having not had multiple listens to either album, Priest twice, and Bruce three times, but there's definitely more meat on the bone of the Bruce release. Cheers Sean. Yeah meat on the bone is a good way to put it 🤘 hope you're well
Halford sings better at his age even.
I appreciate the thought process behind this Mike. Loads of ppl love the new Bruce record. Love this. Cheers Mile
Cheers Trevor.
Great video,,,the Priest album rocks right out of the gate,,the Bruce album is definitely a grower,,,after about 5 or 6 listens I love it now...
Bruce's music sinks into your subconscious. He, Maiden and Priest are my joint favourite bands. They both fill gaps in different ways.
I’m still letting the new Priest sink in, too soon for me to give you all my thoughts. I will say it’s pretty f#%king awesome so far 🛡️
It is great but I think that's the point for me there isn't masses in there to sink in.
Spot on with all your comments especially artwork .
