I hate the argument that racism is 'prejudice PLUS power'. If you look down on anyone for their race, no matter the situation, it's racism. That being said systemic racism is through prejudice and power. And that does have an effect but anyone, no matter who they are or the color of their skin, can say and do racist things and essentially, be racist. That argument is just a way to excuse being a racist jerk and get away with it.
I don't think you necessarily have to look down on someone because of their race, to be racist. You can be racist for hating someone purely because of their race, whether you believe them to be above or below you.
@@XYZ_55 typically if someone is hating someone for their race, they believe theirs is better. If you think about a group you don't like and think they would be better if they acted more like you, that is still racism

90% of the time people talk about racism they aren't talking about oppression. 90% of the time someone is called "racist" they are acting outside and in opposition to the institutional powers, like an employee who gets fired for writing something "racist" on his Facebook page.

Exactly! They tried to change the definition to try not have accountability. Dark skinned people face the most discrimination from all other groups of people. They don’t benefit from systematic racism
Black here and I’ve faced this exact kind of mindset. I don’t know how it got misconstrued that one can be exempt from racism but the truth is many black people have a problem addressing issues inside the community. I was born in the us and my moms Haitian so if someone asked what I was I’d clarify that. That amount of children that responded with “I don’t like Haitians” was crazy. Even more ridiculous was when I asked for their reasons it was always some flimsy “idk I just don’t”. One girl flat out said she had an issue with me now and I called her racist. The went to her saying “I’m not racist I just don’t like Haitians”. If a white person said that there would be hell to pay but no cause your black you get some gross exemption. It annoys me when media likes to only portray black people as unambiguously United to some issue and painting the picture that only something on the outside harms us. Sad truth is a lot of stuff that brings us down is glossed over cause it mean addressing internal problems that aren’t caused be outside factors. There were adults talking about a “racist” killing a black guy on his home when the truth was the guy broke in and appropriately got bodied for it. Penny and her friends will decry Zoe for getting the affections of a light skin guy that doesn’t like darker girls. Nobody talks about that guys hookup and Zoe is the problem like wtf? The show has a very skewered perspective that hasn’t don’t well at addressing some of the big things they try to especially when it comes to race.
If she doesn't like people for their race or country they came from, then she is racist, even if she's that same race. Also I agree, this show does a terrible job of addressing racism! This shouldn't be on Disney channel for the CHILDREN!
Aww I'm so sorry you went through that. Being discriminated sucks bro :( like anyone can be racist, just because you have a different skin color from someone else doesn't exempt you from a negative quality like being racist y'know? The main problem is arrogance and denial: people can't better themselves if they think they're in the right and its something they ironically adopted from the people they hate. Pettiness and revenge is a cycle of emotional stupidity.
Prejudice plus power, huh? I can think of a few groups of people that African Americans have systemic power over. Native Americans, immigrants (especially ones who don't speak English, don't have visas, or don't have citizenship and therefore have no right to vote). The girl Penny was talking to clearly spoke English, but there's no way to tell if she's an American citizen or not. For all we know, Penny could have systemic power over her.
Tf you saying native America literally own slaves the five civilized tribes for example then they was ain’t give category of white which mean privileges stop writing shit out yo ass
Also, this entire scene feels incredibly disingenuous. That Asian girl never explicitly called Penny a racist. She just got annoyed with Penny for stereotyping her. Which, to be clear, Penny did do. And then her friends are just like "oh, she just called you racist, but you can't be racist, so you don't have to worry about it", which was completely unacceptable because a) that Asian girl never even said Penny was racist, *someone else* put those words in her mouth and b) Penny's choice to stereotype this girl was completely brushed off by both her friends and the narrative itself, in favor of pretending that black people are incapable of being prejudiced.
Honestly, It didn't look like Penny was stereotyping them, I thought she was just asking for them for help and went to them first because they were one of the people Penny knew. Sucks that ended up being the case, and out of Penny's character

This phrase always pisses me off. I was literally bullied for an entire year in 8th grade when I moved to a school that was like 95% black, at first I didnt care, until I started getting bullied, and not just bullied, but bullied specifically BY THE BLACK KIDS for not being black. They called me white girl, white bitch, etc. Would make fun of me for being white (im not even white btw im latina), would just be assholes to me in general, yet I never saw them doing this to other black kids (except if the black kid was disabled or just "lame" because of course, thats how bullies are). It was one of the worst times of my life, I see black people being racist all the time but people let it slide BECAUSE they are black. Racism is racism, no matter what your skin color is.
Same but my mother is Mexican and my dad is blk, I also got bullied by them, they thought my mom was white so made fun of me for it and made fun of my clothes or anything etc but when I told them she was Mexican it only got worse.
Alternative perspective, and not trying to justify the phrase or anyone's bad actions at all, but just because black people collectively don't have as much power in society doesn't mean they didn't have power in that situation. They had a numbers advantage and put their hate on someone who did nothing to them. So even by their own definition it was racism.
It can be described as a secular doctrine within academia and political circles: “Speaking up for minorities”-with minorities being non-whites to sow division and discord across a wider population-is just a blanket statement that is also meant to hide how non-white demographics have the same clashes towards one another. The destruction of social cohesion by a handful of people in circles of influence and power is deliberate and not accidental, and it’s why academic faculty and administrators in business and government continue to push their rhetoric to preserve their positions of power. Racism as it’s redefined here in this cartoon is okay when they do it. It’s not a coincidence to see younger generations fall into that brainwashing, because it’s to train up younger people into preserving the dynamic that members of this ideological cult have established for themselves. Those kids who were bullies were being pat on the head by their elders for doing a “good job”. It’s something that is mentally very sick.

My family on my moms side is black. My mom went to get her nails done at a salon mostly runned by Asian women. And there was this obnoxious black lady eating Chinese takeout while getting her feet done. She made this racist comment about “praying over their food”. The lady actually looked up at her then at my mom and my mom just shook her head. My mom knows the people working there really well. This was around the time the pandemic was happening and xenophobia against Asian people was on the rise. @@ninjafalls1739 I had a white teacher who was obsessed with black people. He had BLM flags, several black national flags, and posters of black people. He had a doctorate in African American Studies. I remember learning about how black people were "kidnapped by white people" and sent away to stolen Native American land. I had a Chinese friend who hated this crap and spoke out against. He could sort of get away with it because he wasn't white, unlike me.
Black people can be racist, racism means prejudice or stereotypical definitions used to identify a race even if its disrespectful or ignorant. Literally any race can be racist.
"black people can't be racist" "I agree, racism is prejudice PLUS power" Are they implying that black people are inferior? What kind of message is that?
Can literally kill someone for the color of their skin but it doesn't count as a hate crime because a white dude is president (or something like that who even knows).
Why are you surprised? In my home state, the left was up in arms because the state made it illegal for campaign volunteers to go to polling booths and hand out "VOTE FOR ME" bottles of water to people standing in line. When people asked why that was a problem, they claimed that minorities would be disadvantaged and thirsty. To which I would say "I'm sorry, do you think a black man is too stupid to bring his own water?" . They'd get really quiet after that.
No , black people have been systemically oppressed and have been prevented from having the social powered required to execute systemic racism. We do not have the same power white people do , not because we are inferior but because white people have rigged the game.
Wow... Did the writers really write this in? The same writers that made hispanics look bad, I'm still pissed off at the fact that Lacienega is okay with being called "The Swamp", just cus it sounds pretty in English does not mean it's pretty in Spanish... Also what name starts with "The"? Makes no sense. Honestly the creator and writers of this shows I think are the definition of racist. Not only are they prejudice but they also think that just cus they're black, they're above all to a point where they think it's impossible for them to be racist.
I don’t believe the writers intended her to be named “the swamp”. Actually LaCienega and her mom Sunset Boulevardez were named after real life locations in Los Angeles, Sunset Boulevard and LaCienega Boulevard respectively. However I do believe racism can come from any place, it’s not exclusive to one race being prejudice to another. As a black person, others can be capable of racism too. Even towards their own race.
No black people do not think they are above all. We actually are prevented from jobs, schooling and housing opportunities based on our skin tone. We don’t do that to other people lmao. We don’t even have to power to do so.
I went to an all black school and there was this teacher I swear had it out for me. I always hated her, and she hated me. And once word of the pandemic got out, she had a few things to say…
They do! Some don't age we'll and sometimes the message gets skewed but I really want an episode where Tolkien calls out Proud Family Louder and Prouder for promoting racism
I walked into a movie theater when the first Black Panther movie was playing and was harrassed about how it "wasnt my movie" by the rest of the audience cause i was the only white person in the whole place. Was getting death threats, some of them followed me out of the theater when i went to the ticket person to talk to the manager about a refund...and the manager who was himself a black man heard what happened and looked mortified at what was going on. Personally escorted me to my car to make sure i wasnt gonna get jumped, too.
That movie was good but Black Panther was created by a white man, owned by a white company, and depicts a fictional powerful independent nation with no slavery, civil rights movement, or colonization. Aside from the actors having similar skin color to me I don't see much there to relate to. Yet every other black person I knew was losing their mind over it. Doesn't surprise me that they ran you out of the theater over it, even though that's gotta be the stupidest thing to claim as "not for you". But nobody would ever teach you to use the term "race" on its own, even if you mean it in a context of perceived race. I don't know why some people say Racism = Prejudice + Power. Those two traits don't create racism, they create oppression since power gives one a way to exercise their prejudice on a bigger scale, meanwhile, racism is just prejudice alone because you don't need to be above someone to hate them.
You could literally be the weakest, poorest, and dumbest person in the world and you could still be racist. A literal incel could be racist

Racism is a form of oppression. It is impossible task to ask for an oppressed group to loke their oppresser.
90% of the time people talk about racism they aren't talking about oppression. 90% of the time someone is called "racist" they are acting outside and in opposition to the institutional powers, like an employee who gets fired for writing something "racist" on his Facebook page.
"Black people can't be racist!" And the whole "friend" group was being mean to the only white girl there, isn't it ironic?
Yes
I don't agree that Black people can't be racist but where were they being mean to the White girl?

Someone cleverly brought up that if that guy had chosen to ask any of the other girls out not one of them would have had a problem with it. It's just that the only reason someone so unattractive could have been picked _has_ to be because of her skin tone, nevermind the fact he ignored other swooning white girls and went for Zoey instead.
Here's how the colorist episode shouldve gone "wow Zoey were so sorry we treated you like that, you did nothing wrong. We jumped to conclusions" and the twist could've been that he was just into tall girls like Zoey and they had a good time at the dance.

I’m so sorry you went through that
latina isn’t a race

Yikes. It's a fucking Marvel movie. They aren't even all that good.
Certainly none of their ancestors were from Wakanda either?
That is absolutely insane. I have no words.
Man that sucks 😕
I’m so fucking sorry you went through that..
So, we've boiled all racism in human history down to a simple mathematical equation. It's crazy to think it was that easy the whole time.
Saying “Black people cant be racist” is the equivalent of saying “Penguins can’t be birds.”
It's like saying Jewish people can't be genocidal.
@@pepperbytez8128I’m Jewish what is that supposed to mean???

You must feel great satisfaction from the huge change you have

through these words.
Go do something with your life, instead of talking nonsense about Jews and genocide in a video that talks about racism.
