Hey Jakob, great video. I do have to add 1 thing: There was a large Frisian (Germanic) pagan group who stayed pagan until somewhere around 1360. They left the mainland and settled on the Faroe Islands around 1050 ;)

I live in the north of Sweden and it's fascinating that the Sami people still exist and live here. I often see reindeer on the sides of the streets when I go to work. I live in a city, but the reindeer come here to find food in the forests close to the roads in spring.

I use to read about Norse mythology as it was interesting and would even call myself a pagan, however as I matured and lost faith all together I realized that I never truly worshipped any gods. I’ve recently got back into my studies out of curiously and the growth of the faith is absolutely amazing. I’m in fact converting to Norse Paganism, only this time my faith will be real. I have learned a lot in a short amount of time thanks to you and I my knowledge will only grow. The stories I hear from you, and others alike, are truly inspiring. I wanted to say thank you, for being the start of my journey.

EXCELLENT!!! EXCELLENT!!! EXCELLENT!!! As an Ordained Universalist I have lived with and researched many religions in the world. Over the past 5-7 yrs (after 50+ yrs of searching), I kept feeling a "tugging" deep inside, for me with my Swedish roots. I have never found any information that helped me with this "internal-void". I was told many times to check out Odinism. Your videos are very well researched and helpful with my quest. The more I learn from you (and others) about the Norse Gods, the more complete I feel inside. My Swedish Grandfather and Great-Grandfather (both from the Sweden/Norway border) would tell me stories of adventures and deeds done by the Norse people. They would tell me these stories IN Swedish, which was my 1st language (I learned English in grade school). I was born and raised in the US in every small Swedish town. And many times they would tell the stories in old Norse. Thank you for all of your research and wisdom. Keep up the GREAT VIDEOS!!! May the Gods watch over you and guide you in your daily life. ---- And yes, the Norsemen did discover North America first. LOL

grandparents grew up in Swedish towns in Pennsylvania where they still speak Swedish today. My Great-grandparents came from a small village in Sweden Near Norway. I spoke Swedish and German before I spoke English. Listening to the stories and fables in Swedish and Norse was mesmerizing!!! I may not have understood all the words, but I did understand the meaning and spending time with my older relatives. Keep up the GREAT VIDEOS!!!

This is why often we as a people need to "feel" our way through being what we are... They were us and now we are them. So that means sometimes we will "feel" differently about the specifics, but keep in mind, for most daily activities our ancestors did their own worshiping in their own homes, such that often it wasn't allowed for non-direct family were not allowed to be present...

I look for common themes in belief systems). After losing my last grandparent recently, I have been very drawn to my ancestors and their religion (most likely Germanic Paganism and Goddess worship). I plan to treat myself to a DNA test soon to see if the family origin stories are true. We are moving forward without forgetting the wisdom of the past. "The Sami people lived in Scandinavia 8500 BC" That is a bold assertion. It is 4000 years before Proto-Uralic was spoken, the ancestor of all Uralic languages, including Sami.
But Sami has an unknown language substrate which hints to an extinct language group that must have been spoken in Scandinavia earlier.
The name is TACITUS, not TACTICUS.
The Poetic Edda was COMPILED in the early 13th century. We do not know when the poems were first written down. Nordic poetry was largely oral and transmitted by memory.

@Steve Hunt Carbon dating is extremely accurate - for plant material up to an age of 50,000 years. You cannot use it for dinosaur fossils - they are too old and have no carbon in it.
When archaeologists make a guess, they tell you that it is a guess, and when they have evidence and data, they tell you the evidence and data. You cannot trust anybody 100%, but you fare better with scientists than with ill researched youtube videos like this one.

Nice presentation, however I think you should have mentioned that the main reason America even has a following of Heathenry or Norse Paganism is thanks to Stephen Flowers, Stephen A. McNallen, and James Chisholm. I understand that a lot of people do not like McNallen because of his 'Folkish' outlook on the religion, but he pressed hard for it to be a recognized religion by the federal government and because of his actions all of you benefit today, because he helped pave the way, and you have to pay homage to Stephen Flowers and James Chisholm for bringing about the "Universalist" mindset and also paving the way for us modern Heathens. without these three individuals it would probably be tougher to do a lot of the things we do today.

Germanic spirituality starts with the coming of the Proto-Indo-Europeans as Corded Ware culture, c. 2900 BCE - circa 2350 BCE. All Germanic languages come from Scandinavia.
Regardless of difference, whether I say *Woðanaz in Proto-Germanic, Wōden in Old English, Ōðinn in Old Norse, I'm still talking about the same deity in question. Same thing if I were to say English water, German Wasser, Old English Wæter. Different cultural expressions of the same thing.
The difference is that Germanic is the category, and Norse is a specific subgroup and expression of Germanic.
Germanic tribes were converted to Christianity long before the Viking age. The Goths and Franks were among the first to be converted.

That's funny considering historians have been debating for years, if he really even existed and if he did exactly who he might have been. The stories of Ragnar had been passed down via song and story for generations. However, the were never written down until the Latin Alphabet was brought into to Scandanvia. Ragnar is like the King Arthur of the Vikings. Saying your descended from him is similar to someone in britian saying they are a decendant of King Arthur. ( Kinda a silly thing to do) I think Ragnar probably existed but because the Swedish did not write things down we really can not separate truth from fiction. In the case of Ragnar we have to take in mind that all the things that are said about him are obviously not true or even real, which makes us doubt about a real physical existence of this famous Viking.
Ragnar’s legends were written between the 12th and the 13th centuries so it’s a long historical period already far from the Viking Age, a period in which Ragnar supposedly lived. This leads us to think about the amount of truth in oral traditions, before being put to parchment in an era already culturally and religiously far from the Viking Period and with that said you could NEVER in a million years, prove or even begin to suggest you were Related to Ragnar. The historians do not even truly know who he is, they can not seperate fact, from the fantasy epic saga's that were past down via poem, songs, and oral tradition's before they were able to actually be written down. If the best Norse historians and Geneticists can't discover who Ragnar was, how in the world can you say you are related or decended from the Man?!

    • @theesotaricitalian6338

@@Norseman311 historians don't even know who Ragnar was for certain or if he even existed at all. The only was cyber could perform this DNA test, is if somehow the historians found some great scientific proof that Ragnar did actually exist and than they would have to locate his body and hope that it's in good enough shape after all these years, to be able to gather enough DNA markers to try gather a DNA profile of him. The chances of that alone happening are close to zero. And then the chances that Mr Cyber would actually be his decendant after 1000 plus years are slim to None! Also, that is 1000 plus years without any substantiated historical proof is Slim to None! Lol I say by all means, believe whatever you want if it makes you feel good about yourself. However, I wouldn't be going around announcing it, because after you do that you look kinda silly, not to mention maybe Abit crazy or delusional to boot. Just saying....

From the first christian king in Scandinavia, Hákon Aðalsteinsfóstri, who reigned in Norway from 933 to 961, to the burning of the great norse pagan hov in Gamla Uppsala, Sweden in 1088 which is marked as the end of norse paganism in Sweden, if not all of Skandinavia.

Great and interesting video, I myself as a 🇨🇭🇩🇪 never felt a real connection to god but when I found out about Wotan I instantly felt a much deeper connection. This is not to say that I believe everything but I guess there is something about following the path of your ancestors. Greetings from 🇨🇭 and keep up the work

I've always dabbled a little bit with getting into norse paganisim in my life. It wasnt until I turned 30 last august that something inside just got drawn more into it. I would appreicate any adivce or research to point me in the right direction. Bjorn the bull andreas is my starting point when i turned 30. I just found this channell tonight. But anything would be helpful. This world is changing faster than i can shake stick at it. I know theres a deeper hidden meaning to a lot of things norse pagainism being the one thing im drawn to the most. Skaal to everyone

You are the only one putting out this content. I seem to always be coming back to your videos no matter what I look for. If your pledge to odin was true I think you have done a good job on gathering believers. The only criticism I have is people still using viking. Viking was an action the norse men did. But otherwise I see you growing and leading a many people into asatru.

The sami was not first. They were not living on the ice when we (germanics) came wandering.
This video is a year old so that's ok but for just a couple of months ago they found remnants of people here outside my town (Solvesborg, south of Sweden) and they are probably at least 10 000 years old.
Germanics were first. We are the natives.

I am really happy to be a norse pagan. This family is the greatest and its get bigger with each passing day and i talk alot about that but i feel really sorry for our ancestors who had to go over christianity. I know they had to or otherwise they would have got killed or worse so i am not angry at them but that cross religion. Thanks to our ancestors who putted their hands on our shoulders to remind us of the old gods, ways and thank the gods to excist. It might take some time but i see forward to the day i can come to the hall and see a part of this great family with my very own eyes. I will be the only one of my family and my friends left me but i know i am not alone. The gods are with me, with all of us and so are our ancestors and mother nature. Skål to the gods and our brothers and sisters ! 🍻❤

@Kørbï among the many crimes those punks did is the perversion of the svastika. People in the west today see it as a symbol of hate.
I feel these symbols need to be used again and people need to be educated in its original meaning so as to remove its association with those N@zis.

I think it's time to learn your history and that Moustache Man is the most lied about man in history. The victors write history, and "nazi" is a slur invented by the Marxists. The proper term is national socialist. Not one of them would every say "I'm a nazi", as it is a slur.
