For the record, Einar Selvik of Wardruna specifically says he does not consider his music to be 'Viking music' and doesn't relate much to the Viking age, more so to the Bronze Age and Iron Age. At the same time he doesn't try to recreate historically accurate music, but to have really good academic understanding of the roots and then grow from them. I really like his perspective as it is how I live my life.
I like his acoustic music, but did associate him with the modern 'Viking style' the way I was introduced to Wardruna by someone who considered the selfm a Viking and gained so much respect for him after I heard that interview.

It was faint and I heard a small voice and I couldn't see him. He said to follow a path of my choosing, to follow the breeze and see where it lands me. Hunting is not some kind of spiritual connection. White washed American history has tried to force that Native connection down our throats, but that simply wasn't reality. Hunting was for survival, it was natural. Every tribe didn't go pray over the animal they killed and thank it like tv tells us. I've found most people who believe this fall into: Never been hunting; Didn't start hunting until late in life; Grew up in the city. No country folk who grow up hunting think like this and if they claim to be, they're full of it and trying to be PC.

    WARNING, LONG COMMENT
When I first started learning about this faith, I wasn't sure if I should believe it or not, but there was a guy a met who identified as a Norse Pagan, and one line he said always sticks with me is, "Breadcrumbs man, breadcrumbs". What he meant was that when I started researching and learning, everything I learned always led to something knew. I never believed in Magic and Mysticism, but after a few weeks I had a dream, in what seemed like only a breif moment, a woman stood before me, golden hair, glowing, and I was stunned, she reached out to me for only a second and I woke up. I couldn't tell you if she was a Valkyrie, if she was Freya herself, I don't know. I dont even remember what she was wearing, if anything. What I do know is i woke up, heart racing, tears in my eyes, but with this overwhelming sense of pure certainty, and that's when I knew I was on the right path. I don't think my friends believe me when I tell them this story, but i know it, in my heart, to be true. Even as i type this I can feel myself getting emotional.
Sorry for the long comment, just wanted to share that 😊

In terms of what is most important for mankind as of now, I really don't know, that might be a question best suited for someone more educated than myself (I'm still quite new to the faith). but in terms of what is most important to the individual, I don't think anyone can answer the that save for the individual in question. but to give a simpler answer, they are all important, and the world today needs all of them, in my opinion of course.

Wish it was the same in England!!!
Society is forcing us to feel nothing but shame about our history, culture, identity etc! On top of that, they're trying to censor important eras so eventually they're erased from history forever!!!
Norway has it right and I for one am really happy to hear it and hope Norway holds on to its roots. In England its frowned upon and anyone who shows any element of pride in our history is branded as 'far right wing'or 'oppressive' etc.

Hi Jacob, Great video! I definitely share a lot of the sentiments you've mentioned. Especially about the tension between following the rhythms of nature and the more frenetic (and less meaningful) rhythm that society is trying to force us towards. One of the biggest rewards I've discovered from following the Pagan path is that it allows us all to slow down, appreciate our natural world, and find a greater sense of purpose in life.

I am convinced this is the path for me after a dream I had. I had no stimulus from Vikings, the gods, seeing or hearing crows or anything Norse related for at least a month before the dream (the timeline that our subconscious gets stuff for our dreams).
I realised I was inside a wooden room hovering above the floor. Then a huge gust of wind hit my face and standing next to me was a huge Raven or Crow, and I swear it's eyes were like Gold. It just stared into my eyes and I felt a warmth in my soul I've never felt. Without speaking I somehow got the message of "continue with this path". Then when I woke up my house was SURROUNDED by a murder of crows.
After asking other Norse followers they say that Odin sent one of his Ravens to me. Would really love to get your opinion, thanks mate.

The bit about community and the folk aspect and leaving your mark, leaving a legacy, I've been striving for that most of my life. I've had many friends and Friends tell me that they were inspired to do this or that because they knew my story, they knew where I came from and where I am now. This, to me, is the purpose of our being here; not to consume and become indebted, as you said, but to light the way for others, to have our names be the thing that stirs courage and gives them steel in their spines and fire in their hearts.

Thank you so much for this video. I was adopted into a very Christian family and have suffered a lot. I’ve been through a lot but I try to grow each day, to learn anew each day. I have no religion, but I consider my’self’ to be “spiritual”. Spirit/Source has connected with me in strange ways either awake or asleep in another plane, and I’ve explored a few deities. (just goddesses for me; just because I relate to the divine feminine principal of life right now more). Yesterday I had what I can only explain as a psychic calling from Freyja, without me even knowing who she even was so i’ve been researching since. I’ve always loved Norse / Celtic anything and it’s in my blood anyway. anyway, after doing a bunch of research about Freya/Freyja/Frigg I cleaned a space to make offering and meditated and I just had a pretty crazy meditation with her ! I’m excited to start working with this and hope I can grow as best I possibly can. I feel like I already have a special connection with Freyja. I’ve been getting intuitive messages from a divine feminine archetype and I now believe it’s been her.

This was a great watch! This is only my second video of yours that I’m watching and I am excited to learn more about Norse Paganism and your journey with it! It’s so interesting to see how different and similar some faiths are. I was brought up as a Hindu, and most of my life I have believed in Hinduism. And for us, our relationship to our Gods and Goddesses is a very personal one. Each family has their own beliefs and way of practicing Hinduism, (which to be fair wasn’t even a religion until the British lumped all of us into one label) and we can pray or worship anywhere really, we don’t have to go to the temple weekly or anything like that. I always found it confusing when I would hear Christians policing other Christians how to do this or that because I always thought everyone’s religion was a relationship mostly between them and their gods/goddesses. And I think the lack of community based living is more of a North American thing than anything else because when I briefly stayed in Italy a few years ago, I found there to be a big idea of community there and same with India. I feel like that’s more of a cultural thing, but I agree that creating a community with the people you live with is important.

Over the recent years however, my interest to understanding this religion has really opened my eyes. I'm learning right now, I can't say out right that I am practicing this religion on a daily basis. But the knowledge I have learned so far makes me appreciate this so much and gives me reason to believe in higher powers. I recently found this channel some few days ago, and needless to say it's peaked my interest more and more with each video I view. There seems to be something that is calling me to this faith, more and more each day. I don't know when I will see the gods but with my knowledge ever growing I feel as if it might be soon. Never in my life have I felt more connected to the earth than this year, I'm grateful for the eternally. Discovering this faith has also made me realize my family's history and the pride I had for my ancestors. This has put a lot of things into perspective for me. I first heard the call of Thor around 2 months ago as I was in my forge and a thunderstorm started as my first hammer blow fell. I'd never felt anything so exhilirating before. I've been on a journey to learn since then but it's been a struggle because christianity has been such a huge part of my life and has dominated my way of thinking for a long time. Thank you for this.

My favorite media representation of the Viking culture is still the Vykruls in World of Warcraft. 🤣All kidding aside (I'm not though), very good points Jacob. I actually enjoy the solitary aspect of this religion. My least favorite part of being in the Christian church was having to go to church. Especially the part of the service where they make you shake hands with everyone. Now it's just me and the trees or the bees or my spinning wheel, w/e. It's great to meet like-minded people, but I prefer the less structured way that we do get-togethers.

Thank you for being honest. There’s a reason this video showed up on my recommendation. It sounds like a lot of work (everything in life is) but I figured religion would be easy. I’ve never felt connected to any faith and Norse Pagan always intrigued me. Perhaps from the media and history but I’m not really sure - disconnection of the Christian God could have also played a huge part for me. I’m very introverted and wouldn’t like putting my time into other people, a community sounds nice but gatherings and having to socially interact isn’t my thing. There’s a reason my circle of friends don’t make a circle lol. As harsh as that sounds but that’s just the type of person that I’ve been. People are draining and I recharge alone not sure if I could get into something like this and go through the motions. Love nature and it’s beauty but absolutely hate being outside. Terrified of insects and predators not to mention that I’m a germaphobe. 😂 I do agree with you about the rhythm of this 9-5 bs. That I’m truly actually tired of. Who knows, perhaps I’ll have an epiphany and maybe not be so stubborn...

It was fascinating to hear about your experiences, I did want to comment however to clear up some misconceptions about Christianity. We as Christians are called to study, meditate, and pray on our own far more regularly than only through our communal meetings, albeit this is something that American Christianity struggles with. The "I believe in Jesus and that's the end of it" is contrary to the faith. We are called to study and learn so that we can act, becoming more holy, bearing good fruit, and becoming more like Christ. It's also important to note the many schools and PHDs dedicated to theology. We are to learn as much as we can about God. My personal library contains hundreds of books on theology that I use to learn more from. We have 2000 years of church history with brilliant men that we still draw knowledge from. The practice of some Christians that do not studying and pursue holiness is contrary to our faith. I just wanted to clear up that misconception.

    • @Xaforn
      @Xaforn 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I think it really depends on the denomination, some encouraging much study alone and together. However how I was raised was anything outside “standards” was a no no. My mom taught me so much about my body and how it would work as I grew older, what marriage would be like, encouraged me to read and learn so I would know what else was out there so when I did marry I knew far more than women who were decades older than me. None of my friends knew what I knew, nothing close. They still don’t. While I have stepped away from my denominational upbringing, my faith and spirituality is stronger and I have eyes wide open, seeing all the lies pushed on me while growing up.
