Yes, I do agree with that, but then I'm always surprised when people buy expensive stuff whenever they make a bit of money. You'll get to financial freedom way quicker if you keep your costs low. Especially when you want to quit your 9-5 for example.
I think it's really important to recognize that when you're first starting out, you really are laying the foundation for your future. I can imagine that if you had actively tried to get all of these income streams going in 2019, you wouldn't be where you are now. Taking things one step at a time, growing and diversifying organically, that's the key, really. Thank you for sharing this, and for showing how important it is to also *spend* money on your business in a strategic way.
I go between feeling really motivated to get where you are and really down that I'm not there yet. I've recently discovered this girl, Kaiti Yoo, who grew massively in just 1 year. and then there are others that will do it in 10 years. So for whatever reason, you want to take this journey, make sure it's for you. Not just because it's cool or something like that.

I got monetized in October and made right around $250 from october to the end of december. I have one really good affiliate deal that ive had all year even before i was monetized and i made $5000. Affiliate deals are the best things you can get into.

You're one of the few people who talks about taxes, and for me that was one of the WORST freakin hurdles in becoming a freelancer, even though I knew it was coming. When I was only blogging for a few websites it wasn't a huge deal to just look through my invoices and calculate it. Now, with multiple titles and blogs, it can be a major, major undertaking, and I'm sure it's the same for you with so many revenue streams from so many platforms. This year in particular I'm pretty salty because Amazon unexpectedly changed how they calculate royalty payments for audiobooks (instead of being paid and paying tax for the whole amazon backend at once, you're now technically contracted per author and have to pay tax on the cut of the royalty per book rather than the lump sum) and I'd already been responsibly filing on my blogging stuff quarterly, so my receipts are a M E S S. I'm like, THISCLOSE to faking my own death so my estate has to handle it 😂
hahahah I feel you! when I had to make my first quarterly tax payment I had a panic attack because I wasn't prepared for it 😭 and like you said, as your business grows the more complicated it becomes and AMAZON freakin amazon... they are kinda the worst when it comes to making money through them 🤷♀️
I would highly recommend to go read the book (or listen to the audiobook) of Profit First. It's a very practical book that will help you set up your finances and also takes care of your taxes basically. And even for someone like me, who doesn't really enjoy those subject, it was super easy to comprehend. Just my 2 cents.

I left my fulltime job to push my channels, then ended up getting another as it was way to early like you said. TH-cam doesn’t grow overnight you have to grow your income 1st. yes, even for beginning youtubers, who are always obsessed with the 1K subs and 4K watch hours, affiliate marketing is the one thing you can implement from your first video. And it's just that first sale that matters the most, right? Even if it's just $0,50 worth of a commission. It will basically be the proof for yourself that it actually works.

I was a little surprised that affiliate income was top. I thought your sponsorships might have been bigger. I suspect that in 2023 that might be the case! Affiliate income and ad revenue from my blogs bring me the most income at the moment but my sponsorship deals are growing month on month. Great update Cathrin
Honestly, it's such a SLOW ROLL with affiliate marketing. I've laid the groundwork years ago on my blog, and it was only until a few months ago, I finally got a payout and expecting another payout soon 😩 I'll try to keep pushing with it.

I've made a couple of videos recently but I haven't published them yet (I have published several in the past), because I want to be ready to publish once a week consistently as soon as I start. I have ideas and even loose scripts prepared. I think I'm going to go back and re-watch all of those older videos of yours. I was a little surprised that affiliate income was top. I thought your sponsorships might have been bigger. I suspect that in 2023 that might be the case! Affiliate income and ad revenue from my blogs bring me the most income at the moment but my sponsorship deals are growing month on month. Great update Cathrin
I'm soooooo incredibly selective with my sponsorships and only did 3 deals last year 👀 so 3 deals leading to over 6 figures is pretty dang good!

Honestly, it's such a SLOW ROLL with affiliate marketing. I've laid the groundwork years ago on my blog, and it was only until a few months ago, I finally got a payout and expecting another payout soon 😩 I'll try to keep pushing with it.

I just posted on your video "APRIL 2022 ANALYTICS + RECAP // I didn't hit my goals for this month... how I'm feeling about it" about investing. Maybe do videos about your retirement videos. If you keep this up, your social security will be maxed. However, Life after TH-cam is a good subject. Imagine if Elon Musk was to buy TH-cam and totally change the format? So, as creators, we have to be financially prepared for such major changes. Good luck to all.
