He is a true professional at it now. When you ride with him it's smooth and flawless and just sounds good.

    The reason for having to jump those two wires for the speed signal is this. On newer vic's with a turbine speed signal (not for sure on year but I think 05 and up) the computer uses the turbine speed signal and compares it to the vss or output speed sensor. It wants to see the two signals match somewhat closely. If it sees too much of a difference it thinks the transmission is slipping and it will either greatly reduce power or shutoff to prevent transmission damage. Jumping those two wires together it will see both signals as identical and this fools the computer into thinking everything is just fine.

    • @PNW_Car_Mods

      That might be the best explanation I've ever seen anyone give for that wiring mod and it's necessity. Thanks for the info tumbleweed.

    Hey i have a question. Why is the tune needed? Could you run the car with the stock computer or would the car go into limp mode because the transmission is gone?

    • @PNW_Car_Mods
      @PNW_Car_Mods  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know that it will go into limp mode. I think you will just have the wrench light stuck on forever which for many is an OCD annoyance. The PCM is looking for a lot of now missing inputs from the automatic that are now gone.

  • @HollywoodHornet

    Man, that looks like a pain in the ass. If I weren't so lazy I'd totally 5-speed swap my P71. Unfortunately I am lazy so I guess it's never gonna happen. I guess I'm stuck with built automatic once mine finally bites the dust. Great job on yours tho. I guess I'll just have to buy yours from you one day and call it a boom done. So what tune is needed from mo's speed shop? Do I need to buy a tune or just edit the vehicles parameters like how high itll rev in neutral with the tuner? And if I need to buy a tune how do I ask for it, like do I just say "I need a tune for a 5 speed swapped crown vic"

    • @PNW_Car_Mods
      @PNW_Car_Mods  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup to all of the above. Most if not all use the SCT X4 hand held with Mo's tune. I literally just emailed them and told him what we were doing and after a few questions were answered on our end he mailed the tuner and tune. His follow up support was second to non. He did have to make a few tweaks for us. Also helped troubleshoot a stubborn occurrence of the wrench light being on. These cars with the manual tune drive kind of funky until you get used to it as the revs like to stay high in between shifts but generally speaking after a day of driving it you don't even notice it anymore. BP also had the same thing with his car.

  • @ba6ic
    @ba6ic 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Forgive me if I sound dumb, but is a tune required for a 5 speed swap? If so, do I just call Mo's speed shop asking for a 5 speed tune?

    • @PNW_Car_Mods
      @PNW_Car_Mods  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You will have a wrench light on your dash forever if you don't get the tune. That is correct. He's done thousands of these tunes for crown vic guys and is super knowledgeable on the swaps. His support even after house was second to none.

If you didn't watch our first two videos check those out as well. We have enough info in our videos you should be able to build and complete the swap. • @PNW_Car_Mods
      @PNW_Car_Mods  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately not at this time. The problem with a video like that at least from me is the thing would be 2 hours long and nobody would watch it. The guy that pretty much pioneered this swap has a youtube channel Crown Vic Performance. He has a 10 part series on doing a full swap over a weekend. Less building the pedals. It takes a lot of poking around. I bet I have at least 50 hours or more of searching the internet and youtube trying to make sure this swap went as smooth as possible. This car is a daily driver for my son and needs to stay operational so once we committed to this we had to make it work or he had no car. There are a few more videos planned for this swap on this car but I just have to get off my ass and get them done.

    Hi can tell me what switch used for the clutch safety switch

    • @PNW_Car_Mods
      @PNW_Car_Mods  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can use just about any 2 wire threaded brake light switch for the clutch safety switch. Just have to figure out how you want to mount it. If you go back and watch part 1 you can see how I mounted the switch and which one I used. It is wired up now nad works.

    What would it cost to do this swap? Labor and parts

    • @PNW_Car_Mods
      @PNW_Car_Mods  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would say a safe bet would be around 1600 in parts and 1500 in labor. Could be much cheaper depending on the amount of used parts you use. Obviously we didn't have to pay labor in our case. The complication in pricing for this is finding a pedal assembly if you can't fabricate one yourself.
