- Hello friends, thank you so mush for sticking with me till the end of this painful serie that made us all cry more or less. I loved this show a lot, even tho the ending is how it is. I still don't know how to feel about this show but I can tell I'm in love with no matter what. To be honest, this ending makes this show even greater because it makes it look different from the other ordinary anime shows. I've heard people hating the ending, I know why, it hurts so bad and everyone wanted a happy ending for Ash and Eiji, I can tatally understand, I'm not hating it tho, but also I'm not loving the ending.
In other words, Banana Fish was a great show and Ash will be remembered forever, but I'll not torture myself to rewatch it like other BF stans are doing, you guys are real masochists just by rewatching it through my videos ;-; you all are great! love ya!

Season 2 should be: Eiji coming back bc he promised to. Ash waking up from a coma hearing Eiji. Them reuniting. Airports being closed, so they sail to Japan. Ash meets Eiji’s fam and feels at home.

I cry so much episode 22 when Eiji hugs Ash😭 it breaks my heart to see ash like that, scared, shocked and distant
@@Rose-bm2hc Eiji really does have this power to comfort people. Besides Griffin, Eiji was the closest Ash had ever been to anyone. (Even Shorter didn't have the same sort of connection that they had, although he was an incredible friend.) Only Eiji could calm Ash.
What hurts me the most though is how Ash had to suffer his death alone & Eiji didn't know at the time, getting farther & farther away, headed to Japan without Ash, believing he would see him again to provide yet more support, comfort & happiness to his life. Ash was probably thinking this as well when he looked up in that scene in the library. He knew it was over & he would never be able to experience Eiji's love & care ever again. His hopes of improving his life were taken away permanently.
Words alone can't fully grasp the despair of the moment, but when the situation is left to sink in... It hurts.
I know he died peacefully with Eiji's words resonating in his heart, but the circumstances under which he died still haunt me. His fate was tragic & unfair.
Sorry about the rant. Apologies if I've prolonged anyone's sadness.

If i were eiji i would be so depressed knowing that ash died, that eiji didnt have a chance to talk to him, to embrace him, and to say that he still has a chance to be happy in life as long as they are together even for the last time. I cried so much last night. I just cant be that happy to know that ash died without eiji by his side. 💔

In the end I wasn’t prepared for those last 10 minutes to be very honest. For a while I kept asking myself that why people were sad about this anime???

I was actually spoiled about Ash's death before I watched the show, and didn't think about watching it because I was spoiled. But my cousin pushed me to watch it even though she was spoiled as well.
During the last ten minutes both of us were REALLY confused when we noticed that nothing was going wrong. We were like "why isn't Ash dead?? Isn't he supposed to die?? Were the spoilers wrong??" So it was then that both of us started becoming hopeful, until well...you know. We sobbed for a long time and my cousin was extremely distraught over it for like a month (she randomly cried in class several times HAHA).
Anyways yeah, I feel extreme sympathy to the people who weren't spoiled. That must've sucked immensely.
I didn’t know Ash died, but people were very sad. So when i got to episode 24 i was like “it isn’t that bad?? I don’t get why ppl are so sad over this?? It looks like its gonna be a happy ending.”
Mind you: i did not cry in the whole show not even when shorter died.
And then boom Ash gets stabbed, i was bawling.
The fact that ash went to the library and sat not on his usual spot but where eiji sits.
I’m glad you watched this beautiful anime although the ending was not as you hoped it still was art and deserves to be recognized more .
when Eiji said he wouldn't say goodbye to ash because he will meet him again someday i literally broke down in tears.
at first I didn’t cry at that scene but then I thought about it and I bursted into tears and realized eiji was never going to see ash ever again. he cared about ash so much it broke my heart to think that eiji was never able to say goodbye 🥺😭💔😖

yeah i agree, but the show foreshadowed that eiji would be the reason for ash’s demise. ash was extremely intelligent, viligant, and physically fit but his one weak spot was his heart. he loved eiji and everyone warned him that if he didn’t distance himself from eiji, he would let his guard down. that’s exactly what happened. when ash saw the plane ticket, he let his guard down and began to run, he wasn’t thinking about anything but his lover. he got stabbed. then, he could’ve gone to the hospital but instead he stayed in a library to finish the letter, where he fell asleep for the last time, bleeding to death. the reason he died was because of his “weak heart”. those last moments of his life, he was so vulnerable. he finally could fly.

You should read the next part of the anime on the Manga titled Garden of Light which shows what happened after the last episode of the anime and also a prequel manga about Ash and Shorter titled Angel Eyes.

I've seen the ending so many times and I cry every time I watch it 😭😭 This show deserves so much more recognition and appreciation, it's so beautiful in such a heartbreaking way ❤️❤️ I love Ash so much and it was so hard to watch that scene after he struggled and fought so hard♥️
Rant here it comes:
Okay, but rant though, did anyone else have a hard time coming to terms with Ash's death at first?? It just made me so sad! The fact that he was running towards what I assume was to be the airport made Ash's answer to Eiji's letter very clear, and it honestly kinda tears me up inside that he didn't get to see Eiji again...!!! To think he fought so hard all his life and got killed by the stupidest guy... Freaking Lao...!!! It hit me really hard.... And the fact that Ash didn't even get to say goodbye to Eiji...
With that being said, however, I felt a sort of peace with Ash's death after a while..?? The way he was killed wasn't at all peaceful... But he died in a place where he found peace, and would go to kinda have time to himself... To think... Have serenity in the dark reality he was stuck in... Not only that, I think at the end, Ash was able to find peace with himself and his soul. The fact that Eiji was now going back to Japan, and was going to be safe from the Mafia and violence in America meant a lot to Ash. With Eiji now in a safe place, I think that put Ash's mind somewhat at ease in his final moments. He cared for that boy so much, Eiji was his light and his saving grace. He could be himself around that boy. His soul was also set free from all the hardships he went through in life.... He could finally let things go, and be free.... He's with Shorter now..

And Eiji was right, him and Ash will meet again eventually... Just not in person, but in the afterlife... 💕💕💕

I dunno when I'll get over Ash's death... It breaks my heart into pieces knowing that Ash had really died bcuz of a stupid freaking character.... Like it's painful after all the hell he's been through and all the fights he fought, he died it's hard to process.... I liked the story of this anime, I liked the art work, I liked everything that had to do with that anime.... But it's full of tragedies and when finally well, kind of Ash had a peaceful life he got killed.... I can't get over death I can't....

@@valeriapierce6115 they didn't forget anything important just some small details that wouldn't have affected the story in any type of way. And I was actually pretty surprised when I saw myself on screen, did I do a great job pretending to be dead?
i can't with the ending, it hurts so bad because i wanted them to be together so bad. And after everyone Ash has faced he his killed by someone so irrelevant. They deserved to be reunited, I just finished it and i'm an emotional mess. Please let them remake it to be happy so I can be at peace.
If you don’t want to read the manga, at least read the epilogue, and the side stories! Here they are, in reading order:
- Ura Banana (a very short, and very funny gag comic that breaks the fourth wall).
- Fly Boy in the Sky (how Ibe came to know Eiji during his pole vaulting career).
- Private Opinion (how Blanca met and trained Ash - probably the darkest side story in the series...).
- Angel Eyes (how Ash and Shorter met in juvie and became best friends).
- That Summer/Cape Cod (a poignant and very short little interlude between Ash and Eiji that one summer they were together.)
- Garden of Light (THE epilogue for the entire series - it’s also the one that has the most mixed opinion among fans!).
- New York Sense (the final epilogue, see where Eiji, Sing, Max and others are five years after Garden of Light).
Don’t forget that the original manga is set mainly in the 80s, from 1984 until 1986. The first epilogue takes place in 1994; the second, in 1999.

I will re-watch this anime one day and bawl all over again. It won't be anytime soon, but it will happen. Maybe 5 years from now, maybe 10, maybe even more but I will. I promise you.
Speaking of, I am itching to re-watch Wolf's Rain. I love that one so much too but I don't remember everything anymore is why it's good to wait a long while before I ever re-watch anything. I think it's been over 10 years since I've last seen it. x_x;

I've seen the ending thousands of times and watching your video makes me feel like I'm not suffering alone
I can feel you. Just watched the final episode last night. The last scene…. I just can’t stop to cry like a baby for like an hour.
When I first watched the ending my body was so shaken I replayed the ending over a dozen times and I couldn’t stop my tears. This anime has conveyed emotion and the grave depravity of society and life like none other has. The tears you shed, the hatred you feel, and even the occasional laughs you have, all of it together have created such gorgeous moments and painful ones too. This is not just a show to me personally. It’s a series of played out cartoons that taught me life lessons that I will take with me forever. All Ash ever wanted was love, and all the people he got it from left him in the end. All except for Eiji. And in my heart people that are separated in life will be brought back together in heaven. And that has made all the difference.

In Manga, there is another story after this episode. We can see photos of Ash taken by Eiji, and what happened to Eiji when he heard about Ash passed away with his letter in Ash's hand. The story tells us how strongly Ash got Eiji`s heart and soul. Ash is never alone :)
i cried so hard watching banana fish that i couldn’t even cry to the last episode. i’ve rewatched it 4 times and i still cant get over it.
i watch this before my friend and my friend just got into anime and she wanted to watch banana fish because she heard good things about it. i told her that she shouldn’t watch the anime for her first anime to finish.
a week she tells me she’s watching it between classes and finished in one day (she took the online learning to) and later at 6 she calls me and says if i wanna watch the end with her. shes continues to say that she thinks i was overreacting because it doesn’t seem that depressing toward the end. then on the last episode in the last five minutes.
she continues to say nothing can happen right because it the last five minutes. she sobbed from 8 to the next year

I just finished this anime roughly 30mins ago as of typing this. A few years late but I've finally watched it nonetheless. Great anime with some minor flaws (to be expected, nothing is perfect). I bawled like a goddamn baby when I saw the ending. I re-watched it after I regained my composure and the tears started rolling down my face again. I can't recall feeling this emotional over a anime in a really long time.😭😭😭

I love to rewatch shows such as given, fruits basket, haikyuu and whatnot but bananafish is the ONLY anime I CANNOT rewatch. Because I remember every scene completely and I can’t watch it, it has been emotionally engraved in my mind and I will break everytime I even try to watch the first episode.
I still sob to this day...I’m not okay. I’ll never be able to forget this or recover.😕

This is the best anime for me. I love it because it's true. I feel pain due to Ash's pain as if he's my younger brother. In my heart, it was always the scene where Ash would go to Japan to meet Eiji and live a peaceful life until the end of his life
