I'd be interested to know what stage a a bedroom fire would get to before it sets off the detection in the hallway, if the fire originates in the bedroom with the door shut. Undeniably closing doors prevents fire spread. But i'm curious to know, as in england I believe there's currently no regulations for fire detection in bedrooms. As long as, in domestic dwellings, there's a smoke alarm on each floor, usually the most suitable place being hallway. Especially considering the chance of having a fire in your bedroom must be significantly greater now.

Canadian fire code now requires smoke detectors in bed rooms ("sleeping rooms").
