  • In this video we will be discussing and demonstrating another method for Fast Strapping - Which is considered to be a general term used to describe a variety of techniques for quickly applying webbing to a victim to assist with their rescue or extraction. The specific method reviewed in this video is what I like to refer to as the "Shoulder Hitch"...….
    If you're a Firefighter, in the Military, a Police Officer and/or participate in a R.T.F. (Rescue Task Force) or T.E.M.S. (Tactical EMS) Team then you can benefit from watching this video...….
    REMEMBER for any Fast Strapping technique to be practical it should satisfy the following key elements:
    1. Be Fast
    2. Be Efficient
    3. Be Effective
    4. Be "relatively" Safe - Causing no major harm to the Victim or you as the Rescuer
    5. Be executed without ever having to completely let go of the webbing anywhere in the process
    6. For FFs: Be performed while wearing full PPE, including FF gloves
    7. Be able to be executed in ZERO visibility without making any major mistakes
    If anyone of these 7 factors can not be accomplished - You need more practice or you should strongly consider using a different Fast Strapping technique.

    After 33 years in the fire service and using the first method shown, I find the method you showed here to be better for me in many ways. Thank you for sharing. I now have a new skill to practice.

    Drilled this at the firehouse this evening. Love it! Definitely another great tool for the toolbox and was quick and easy for my young guys to pick up.

    Great video. One way I carry my webbing in my bunkers so it doesn't unravel is place it shove it into a latex glove with the tail hanging out.

    the first method may increase harm in chest and upper airway trauma you will find in TEMS situation. you could also run your SCBA waist strap thru the loop giving you a hands free extraction method

      Life over limb. Injury isn’t at the top of my list at this present time. Get them out. Victim unconscious and in arrest in a fire ? I’m not worried about more injuries. I want them out to advanced care ASAP.

    This first method will not work while removing a unconscious victim. The reason is when the victim is being pulled the arms will come up and the webbing will pull off.

      Matt - You rigged it wrong - If you mix up the hitch that's exactly what will happen, but if you follow this method the most the arms will do is flare out away from the body. We've tested it many times on real people - But your point reinforces why it's important to test lifts, drags and carries on live people and not just manikins.

    Hey Dale great video once again mate. I did this a few months ago during SCBA maintenance with the same dumny you use in the video (65KG) but I didn't have proper webbing. I used a cotton type webbing and it had a fair bit of stretch which made the dummy drag quite hard. I was then advised that under no circumstances was i to ever use a webbing loop drag in the field anyway... Still not sure why as i was never told the reason. It has less impact on me doing the drag as i can use bigger stronger muscles rather than smaller ones so less fatigue for me, it keeps the casualties head out of the heat and smoke too although its not quite supported, i guess if we are down to this its get out or die time. I will track down some proper webbing for this. I still think its a better solution than lifting and dragging backwards especially for lower back.
    PS i gotta get me some of those structure gloves too!! They are sweet!

      Thanks for your reply and comments bro! As far as those that tell you never to use webbing - I've had more than one discussion with others that feel the same way and I simply remind them that webbing extraction techniques are not a "cure all" or perfect for every situation - They're simply another piece of equipment and skill to have in your "tool box". Contrary to what the critics believe, as long as there is no trauma to a victim in the area that the webbing loop is applied to it will NOT cause the victim serious injury. I can personally attest to this as all the methods I use I've performed multiple times in training on live individuals (fellow instructors and students) with no adverse affects or injuries. The critics need to understand (as you pointed out) webbing is used for a SHORT duration to remove a victim from an environment that if they currently stay in will cause them serious injury or death - So if using webbing allows a rescuer to remove that victim more quickly and efficiently than that's what I'm going to do. Now with that being said I can tell you of 2 victims I removed from two separate structure fires (one conscious and one unconscious) where I didn't use webbing in either situation as it wasn't necessary. However I still carry webbing because I know that in other situations it could prove to be extremely beneficial - For example removing a large or heavy victim a significant distance or wanting to keep the victim low to the ground and further away from the higher heat and smoke inside a fire building. As far as a RTF or the TEMS situation comment that MrCheckitout123 mentioned below - How and where the victim is injured will determine what method I would use. I also teach a few versions of a Full Body Hasty Harness which is another Fast Strapping technique that can be used to drag, carry or extract a victim. In the end I'm not a fan of putting limits on rescuers - I believe in versatility and being allowed discretion to improvise and adapt to the situation you're presented with. Making the right decision doesn't come from regulations, it comes from ones knowledge, training and experience.

      How long is the webbing 35’???

    Привет!
    Не надо оставлять внешне петли из кармана.
    В помещении, при поиске и тушении могут зацепятся за препятствия. Хорошо если просто выпадут и размотаться, а так пожарный сам остановится, пожарный может запутаться, может запутать с зади идущего пожарного, размотавшаяся петля может создать проблемы при возвращении.
    Кладите петлю целиком в карман, не оставляйте конец. Удачи✊

    Should I make a 5 1/2 foot webbing loop or a 9 to 10 foot loop for rescue? Or do I need both both different applications?

    • @DALEGPEKEL
      @DALEGPEKEL  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Your choice - I carry both - A 9 or 10 foot loop for this application is too long and a 5.5 or 6 foot loop is too short for full body hasty harnesses.

    Carrying/dragging the victim up the stairs makes sense, but how do you help the victim when going down the stairs by yourself?

    • @DALEGPEKEL
      @DALEGPEKEL  ปีที่แล้ว

      Pedro - You can perform a similar procedure using the webbing - The key is to protect the victims head - So you will have to stay closer to the victim which will also help to control the speed going down the stairs as gravity is working with you.

      Thanks for your comment - To avoid injuring a "live" victim's head you just need to gather up more webbing in order to elevate the victim's head and shoulders off the floor or stairwell - How to gather webbing up is shown at the 2:39 mark in the video.
