To understand this song, you first have to listen to Jonah’s solo song ”Coffee break”, and Henrik/Aron’s songs for lovers, of which this was the ”last”

@@bobcieslinski The weird ”Old Armando had a farm” was originally named ”Chicken lover” but they had to change due to urban dictionary, hence the comments in the credits. ”Bitten by the kitten” is a bop thou. ”Coffee break” also has a version by the chinese Kpop star Lucas, on Station, with Jonah involved.

That interlude is thouroughly composed. If you put a metronome to it (iirc it's in 135 bpm, was a while since I tried to figure that one out), it fits perfectly with the 4/4. Definitely not something you make up on the spot. Most probably they pre-recorded it as well, as that's usually what they do, even if they're certainly playing live to some kind of track here as well (and you can see Aron keeping the beat on his leg with one stick), and sometimes change things in the arrangement on the day of recording the video. It's really nice that they kept Jonah's goof from the video shoot in there though. Also, I think that's their rehearsal space they're in, as I've seen that sofa and lamps in som instagram posts as well (and I used to work at Ikea, so I recognise them very well, hahaha). I seem to recall Henrik and Aron saying something, in an Instagram live when they released Phoenix, about all the work getting the rehearsal space in order for the Songs for Lovers videos.
ETA: I remembered wrong, it's 145 bpm. Sorry! Did think 135 seemed a bit low, so had to go back and double check, haha.

@@bobcieslinski Well, as a musician, I just love their music and the way they’re thinking, and as a Swede, I’ve seen/heard a fair few interviews with them over the years as well. I find the way they’re working really fascinating and I’m in awe of their ability to think outside of the box. To say that they’re my favourite non-classical musicians wouldn’t be wrong. 😁

Wonderful reaction as always. Good comments infused with infectious enthusiasm. As I finished your video I thought of a really wonderful, older Loops tune *"Wake Me Up."* This as all Loops songs takes the listener on a journey and when the end comes its another mind-blower that you never saw coming. Their musical creativity truly knows no bounds.

Have you heard “Coffee Break”, a Jonah Nilsson production featuring Richard Bono? Also cool are “Next to You”, “Ring of Saturn”, another collab between DL and Cory Wong, -and imho everything else they’ve done so far…! Enjoy ☺️

Great reaction! I love your blend of genuine enthusiasm and knowledge. I also like what you said about Dirty Loops being, perhaps, the most talented trio around now. I think they are almost too good for mere mortals to truly get, if that makes sense. But if you want to see another ridiculously talented trio more towards the rock end of the fusion spectrum, I recommend anything by The Aristocrats. Listening to them is also like trying to watch three fireworks shows at the same time. :)

The track was pre-recorded, quantized, compressed, eq'd and squashed into oblivion. They're doing the video to a finished studio production. The video probably took a couple days worth of shooting and a couple weeks of editing. It's not live but looks impressive. All their videos aside from live footage is prerecorded and quantized to perfection.

Gosh, Bob. I just discovered your channel and you're showing off some great stuff. I discovered Dirt Loops through Cory Wong, who has played with another band I'd like to recommend, Vulfpeck. Their Madison Square Garden performance has to be the pinnacle of their work to me. I'm having a hard time deciding which track to highlight, but I think it has to be 'My First Car', with 'Smile Meditation' and 'Daddy, He Got a Tesla' as strong runner ups. Either way, I'm digging your content. Would love to see more.

Cool reaction. I love bands like this, snarky, vulfpeck, etc. Looking at your vids, I know you'd really enjoy Jacob Collier. Unlikely that you haven't heard of him by now, but there's a lot to break down in his music and it's really enjoyable.
