    What's perhaps the most amazing thing ... this was the band's first-ever original composition. And, as testimony to it's brilliance, it became the #1 song in Japan. First time in 10 years a non-Japanese band achieved the Top of the Pops.

    This rhythm section is completely bonkers (I'm in constant awe of them), and the way they think outside of the box when composing and arranging is so fascinating to me. How they manage to balance their "more is more" concept, so that it never crosses the line of being too much, is just brilliant. The sheer amount of notes they manage to cram in there without actually "overcrowding" the song is crazy. Also, the way Jonah manages to play that syncopated keyboard part in the beginning and sing on top of it (as if it was nothing complicated at all) always blows my mind.

      Lotta you know music for sure. Everything. You said is spot on. They are brilliant with everything single part of music composition and performance. They blow my mind too. We are so lucky to be able to listen to them. I love them! Thanks for commenting.

    Three and a half minutes of devastation 😉
    I mean, what can you say when three dudes set out to casually blow your mind, then go on to blow it some more, -and then some more!!
    I’ve watched this reaction when it came out, Bob, but had to watch it again.
    This song and your response to it are just too good!
    To see your eye rolls and jaw drops is hilarious, but also, listening to your comments was a real eye opener for me.

    Love your thoughtful comments, thank you. FYI: these early B&W vids they recorded the music first and then went back and "dubbed" the performance to the recording. Aron has commented on how tricky this was for him. Having to go back and sync up every stick stroke perfectly with the recording. The ability-for all of them frankly-to go back and do something like that flawlessly is a real testimony to the command they have of their instruments.

    • @bobcieslinski
      @bobcieslinski  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Wow you said it Robit E7. I can’t imagine having to put that together with the kind of timing they have in these songs. But they are sooo good they probably did it so much faster than normal musicians would.

      I think they still do it that way now. What we see in the videos are not live takes. I think Jonah said something about him and Aron having to learn their whole Work Shit Out solos for the video, and Aron didn't miss a single beat. :O Ridiculous!

    One must add that almost all of their songs are so catchy, that differs them from most other jazzfusionpopfunk-bands. Quite easy to sing along as long as you stay away from Jonah’s runs.. 😁
    Speaking of Jonah, I think of his voice like an instrument as much as traditional singing in the way the arrangements goes, you know what I mean?
