I have cancer and watching you comforts me and really makes me happy... bless you again girl... beautiful just beautiful...😊
Aww thank you! Take it slow and look at everything as a learning opportunity! Carving can be quite frustrating with the wrong attitude! Hope you enjoy it as much as I do! 💛
All my carvings are “he” 😂 I have no idea why, just what comes out of my mouth lol! Glad to hear you think they are getting better, as long as I’m improving and challenging myself, I’m a happy carver :)
Hi Nami !! ❤️❤️. Awesome job Tay! Very envious of your skills…and your parents log cabin! Climbing bear looks great! I follow a number of you tube channels but when I get a notification for your channel, well, I just can’t wait to watch. Thumbs up everyone for a great channel! 👍👍👍👍👍
This might just be the sweetest comment I have ever gotten, thank you so much! I’m so happy my channel makes you happy and excited to watch, such a huge complement! And yes, I love my parents cabin too, it’s my happy place :)
I've carved just enough to know how hard this is to do. Getting the bear proportionately correct is tough to visualize. Takes practice. You did a great job. I like the little guy.
Thank you! I have had so many people say “I could definitely do that, easy” and I’m sure some of them could but until you are standing there with saw in hand staring at the log…it’s harder then it looks! I have a hard time visualize the carving at the beginning stages, definitely takes practice!
@@TayMarie23 Yes, even with small carvings, I've had to stop because I couldn't visualize what cut to make next and I was afraid to continue fearing I would mess it up. You know better than me, practice is the key. Keep up the good work, you inspire us.
Love the video! Better than the photos in the group. You inspired me to carve a grizzly's head. I'm still having some trouble with details in the pine, but I'm leaning. ~ David
I’ll definitely get a video out on that grizzly head soon! I’m so happy to have inspired you, that’s a beautiful compliment! Just keep aiming for small improvements with each carve!
What a cool looking climbing bear cub that is TayMarie. Your best bear carve yet! Looks right at home in your parents cabin. There’s no getting around the back breaking part of chainsaw carving either, even for this little guy! Outstanding TayMarie!!! Thanks again for sharing your talent with all of us. 🫶🏻🤗 p.s. I always forget about the noodle index finger after spray painting. 😂
Thank you Larry! I love how he came out too! He’s a cabin cub for sure 🐻💛 Oh yes, especially in cold weather! My index finger is usually numb and tingly for 24 hours after a spray painting day 😂
Good day TayMarie, I love the detail in your carvings. would love to see a tutorial on how to carve the climbing bear some time. Also I have the same Oregon saw that you use and I was wondering about the Quarter tip bar. Did you have to replace the sprocket to 1/4 pitch and if so where did you get it. Thanks for sharing.
I got the 1/4 pitch sprocket from Saw Nuts. Here is the link: sawnuts.com/product-category/14-pitch-conversion-sprockets/ You will want the Mikita cordless sprocket for $12. Pop the E clip off, switch it out, E clip back. Fits perfectly and is super easy to change 😊
This is awesome, i love it great job . Wish i could have you do some work for me . Ĥave you ever considered doing a indian like the ones that used to be seen in front of stores in the old west ?Great video .
I have zero idea what I’m doing with them, need to watch some “how to” videos lol! I doubt I’m even holding them correctly 😂 But still…one of my new favorite tools!
@TayMarie I actually just posted a new video of a wood spirit i just finished. Would you be willing to take a look and you let me know what you think? 😀
Awww thank you 💛💛💛 I put two timber lags into him/the beam. One 8” lag through the neck into the beam. And the second was a 10” lag into the back side of the beam into his mid body/ belly!
At around 8mins when you are making the fur with the tip of the chainsaw. The danger of a kickback is pretty high, right? Do you have any safety tips for that? Thank you, its a beautiful bear
That is a carving bar being used to fur so the chance of kickback is rather low, and if it occurred, it would be mild and easily corrected! Carving bars have a hardened metal nose with no sprocket. The nose sprocket is what really drives the kickback. I don't think I have ever experienced kickback with a carving bar honestly...dosent mean it can't happen though!
Nope I use mostly Eastern White Pine, cedar when I can but it’s not as easy to find here in the east. Any wood can be carved, they all have pros and cons!
This specific chunk of wood was from a dead and fallen tree in my neighborhoods front yard, it had been dead for 2 years so no leaves/needles to help identify. But based on everything I have carved I’m pretty confident this was eastern white pine!
Hi I just started watching your videos, its amazing you can do this. I’m thinking about giving this a try, not sure, but I do whittle little projects Hillbillies, Gnomes, Bears and other cartoony things nothing to scale Where or how did you learn this?
I learned through fire 😂 aka bought the saw, grabbed a log, watched a video on TH-cam about Chainsaw safety and just went for it! This is a hobby that you can really only learn though practice! You can watch all the videos in the world but until you have a general understanding of how to use the chainsaw, those videos don’t mean all that much! Get yourself a cheap residential chainsaw if you don’t have one, for electric I use (CS1500) or for gas (MS170), and just go for it! You will learn pretty quickly how the different parts of the bar cut! If you already have some experience and enjoy whittling I’m sure you will really enjoy power carving! Oh and ALWAYS use safety gear! I swear those wood chips aim for the eyeballs 😂
Everyone will tell you something different but I would recommend starting with a MS170, put a 12” arborist mini roller on it and just practice! If you have a saw at home just start with that, you don’t need anything fancy to learn the basics! I only used an 18” stock bar on an electric saw until just several months ago!
Omg I am in love 😍 with that bear. Well, and your folks cabin. Btw, let them know I’m up for adoption! I can cook, clean, fish and hunt. I can do chores, and I don’t do drugs. I can send a resumè if they like! 😂
Thank you for the good chuckle 😂🫶🏼 iIll check in and see if they are taking resumes at this time haha 😂 Absolutely love that cabin, so many memories made there! My dad designed and built it 💛
I tried to carve a bear and it turned out looking more like a pig. You make it look so simple but its not . I guess I need to stick to cutting firewood.
Watching someone carve is always so different then actually doing it! Like you said, it’s no easy at all! In the beginning I stare at the log a lot more then I actually cut the log 😂 I encourage you to keep trying…my first bear was scary looking lol! Just takes practice, patients, and dedication!
It takes practice. I made a lot of firewoord learning. Try different things. Owls and birds were far easier for me to learn than bears. My bears are decent now. Dont be afraid to carve deeper.
