    Thank you for this video....youre one of the only ones ive found to show me all the stuff i need to take off to prepare me to get to the timing chain itself...i found plenty to show me how to put timing chains in...whitch is what is easy compared to all the work that it tskes to get to that part of the job....everybody else does it up on the bench...which is probly easy...well find out i guess...thanks again bro...

      @@richierock1300 so I found that bank 1 timing chain had a broken chain guide bolt and chain was sloppy. I managed to weld a nut to the broke off bolt and extract it. I also found bad cam phaser. My problem now is when I go to put the cam holder tool on the 2 flat spots on the cams are 180 off from each other. Can I just spin them into position?

    • @richierock1300
      @richierock1300  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can try turning them as long as the valves don’t hit the pistons make sure spark plugs are out so when you turn the crank bit doesn’t have compression to fool you on hard to turn crank , make sure wrench stays on bolt when turn cam try turning both ways to see if they go where they need to be kinda hard to say it’s not in front of me

    • @richierock1300
      @richierock1300  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can stick a thin screw driver down the spark plug holes and turn the crank clockwise or counter clockwise to make sure all 3 cylinders are not close to the top try to have the 3 cylinders down at least a inch from the top _ _ _ not -_-

    Fantastic video!! Very helpful!! I used this video multiple times during my timing chain install on the exact same vehicle. I do have a question though. After the install, I have codes P0016 and P0017 and was wondering if you have any ideas on why these codes are popping up? I used the Cloyes kit that included the VVT sprockets and solenoids. I did this job on my Traverse because it had the rattle upon start up. Rattle is now gone but I have these codes now. Is this normal and will go away after it's driven awhile? Thx for any help!!

    Question: the codes on my Traverse read P0008, P0009, and P0017. I've already replaced the crankshaft position sensor, but the check engine light is still on... there's no noice or rattling or anything even I turn on the engine... any thoughts on what it could be?

    • @richierock1300
      @richierock1300  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Over 130,000 miles most likely chain stretched or gear stuck advanced if had both cam sensors with crank possibly crankshaft ring slipping but sounds like chain and gears could change oil and add the red bottle oil additive oil changes are critical on this engine if it isn’t changed every 3000 then here we are unfortunately

      @@richierock1300 yes, it has over 130k miles it's at about 178k... only the crankshaft position sensor was replaced. Had an oil change on it the day before crankshaft position sensor was replaced.
      The camshaft sensor should I get that replaced or does it sound Like I need a new timing chain?
      Again there's no noise when I start it up

      Most likely there’s a problem internally take to reputable shop and to have it diagnosed then you can decide what you would like to do, these sensor usually do not go bad 90% internal

    I have one in front of me now. I'm pretty sure it jumped time. When I give gas to cause the whole bank to misfire. I also hear it rattle, when I let off.
    Are these interference engines?

    • @richierock1300
      @richierock1300  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it has over 100,000 miles on it most likely and it you purchased used or new and they didn’t change oil every 3000 miles it could have a lot carbon built up on the inside of the engine also lack of good maintenance causes chains to stretch prematurely. Yours you said rattling good possibility the phazers are stuck advanced so it should chains and guides and tensioners and the 4 phazers also get me the codes please

      @@richierock1300 omg, fast reply!
      We are a wholesale lot. My boss likes to buy wrecks and rebuild and sell them.
      I would be his mechanic.
      ... That being said. It's rare that we get a well maintained car!
      Anyway.
      I'm sure the noise is the chain hitting the housing as it slacks, cause it's only when I let off the gas.
      Codes p0008, p0017, p0018, and of course a p0420 in there. (Pulled from memory, could be wrong on 17 and 18. But I had two accompanying 0008, referencing the same bank. ...There's many more, but unrelated.
      Pretty sure, that's telling me, that one bank, slipped time. And the noise says, stretched chain. ... That a new cam sensor isn't going to do it, here.
      The real question.
      I didn't get most my experience at a Chevy dealer. Twas Honda for me.
      I've never done timing, on this specific engine. All the videos show an engine removed. ... Is that necessary?
      I have some work to be done on my floor, before I drop something that heavy, to the center of my floor.
      And if I can do it, in the car, I'd like to just get moving on it.
