    I love this band, but it's kinda difficult to introduce them to people, since it takes a, well, idk, "special" ear to really appreciate their badassness;] Check out Goliath by them sometime!

      Agreed. I also think he might be reluctant to upload more after he sees their reactions don’t get a lot of views (that’s if he’s even worried about something like that). I hope he does albums worth of reactions by them personally lol. Not enough Volta reactions on YT.

    Omar is the creative genius behind the musical composition and his roots are highly influenced in Latin jazz. If you listen to L' Via L'Viaqiez you can definitely hear it. He actually got his Latin Jazz pianist Larry Harlow on this song. You also have Flea playing trumpet on Cassandra Gemini and John Frusciante on tracks in Deloused and Frances the Mute. I have seen this band every chance I got to and was always blown away. Some of my suggestions to review would be "Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt""Roulette Dares" and definitely "DAY OF TYE BAPHOMETS"..... your head would explode!!!!!!

  • @dookiexfilms
    @dookiexfilms 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    First album may be the easiest to listen to: try "Roulette Dares" or "Eriatarka". Fourth album is the heaviest, try "Goliath" or "Ouroboros". And if you really really want complete absolute chaos listen to "Day of the Baphomets".
    Also, in this song he was singing in Spanish! Cedric (the singer) has said that he likes to write cryptically to express the IDEA of a feeling or thought rather than saying it directly. This also lets you derive your own meaning from the lyrics.

    This is probably one of the hardest Mars Volta songs to get into. When it finally clicked for me I quite enjoyed it. In fact, I've used that beginning guitar part for my ringtone for like 10 years. Only like 2 people have recognized it.
    Best part of the song is where it starts "I count the days to find, what was left behind. Only these name I clutch, will lead me to my home..."
    They definitely have some really good albums worth checking out. The first 4 are great. You definitely need repeat listens for a lot of it to click.

  • @andrews882
    @andrews882 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    4:44 "it might take me time to get into what they're doing and get into all this chaos".
    Yes, exactly!
    The first time I heard TMV was this album. I'd heard a few people raving about them and needed to hear it for myself. However, 2 minutes in and I had to stop listening. My brain could not comprehend what I was hearing. I thought, this is not for me.
    But there was something about it that fascinated me. So, a few days later I thought I'd give it another try, and just, somehow...got it. And fell in love with it!
    This album is just incredible from start to finish.
    I was lucky enough to see them in 2008 in London and they were so intense live.

    The mid section could be counted as 29/16 or 5/4, 6/4, 4/4, but I always count it as 29/16

    • @KillerAP
      @KillerAP  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      5 6 4 doesn't add up to a multiple or factor of 29! If you wanted to do it out of 4 the first segment would have to be 4.5/4... Which doesn't quite exist!
      My interpretation is: 9/16 - 12/16 - 8/16 (adds up to 29/16)

    • @pablorocha8933
      @pablorocha8933 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      KillerAP that’s my point which is why I count it in 29/16, but some people do count it as 5/4, 6/4, and 4/4, but yeah you can count it 9/16, 12/16, and 8/16 too, I just go based on the drums and bass and to me I view at one whole bar, just listen

      The rhythm is a constant three measure pattern of 9/8, 6/4, and 4/4
      The first bit is not 5/4, it is missing a half beat, which gives everything the disjointed feel

    Idk if anyone’s mentioned to you yet, but there’s like 8 members at this stage of the bands existence. That’s why you hear so much going on lol Also to note, the lead guitarist, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, wrote all the music.

    • @HarveyHirdHarmonics
      @HarveyHirdHarmonics 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think he wrote the instrumentals. The vocal melodies are by Cedric Bixler-Zavala if I'm informed correctly. Could be wrong.

    • @dutchmastah07
      @dutchmastah07 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HarveyHirdHarmonics you are right, I meant the instrumentals. Cedric always had mostly free reign on the words and melodies.

  • @HarveyHirdHarmonics
    @HarveyHirdHarmonics 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not sure if you're talking about the rating or the time signature in the description. 😁 But I do love this kind of music. You often won't get it on the first listen. But then you listen a second time and when you don't expect it, while cooking or shopping, some musical phrase appears in your head, then you have to listen again and maybe one more time and it just snaps. You finally know all the phrases, melodies and transitions and you can really begin to appreciate the music.

    you were trying to count the middle section? it's a constant 13/8 with an offset 3:2 Clave underneath... :)

    • @HollowGolem
      @HollowGolem 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that's what throws a lot of people off; TMV uses a lot of Latin music conventions, so if you're not used to hearing that stuff, it'll seem bizarre and irrational (in a mathematical sense).

    • @theyonlycomeoutwhenitsquiet
      @theyonlycomeoutwhenitsquiet 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would disagree with that. The solo section timing is
      9/8, 6/4, 4/4 as a three bar pattern on repeat. The extra half beat in the first bar is what constantly throws the feel out of whack

  • @GleepGlorp6787
    @GleepGlorp6787 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    @KillerAP You have to listen to their first album (Deloused in the Comatorium) from start to finish as it is basically one long song (all the tracks lead into each other). When you listen to one song in the middle of that album, it’s almost like opening a book at random and starting to read. Honestly it’s not that serious but some of the songs really deserve the “context” or the build up from the previous songs. A suggestion of mine would be to record yourself listening to that whole album (it’s almost exactly and hour long) and pausing (or editing later) in between songs to elaborate your thoughts and then releasing each song reaction over time. To hear each song for the first time, in order, for the entirety of the album is a special and unique experience that would be 100% worth the time and effort to record and react to.
    Give a thumbs up all you TMV fans if you want to see him do that as you know that is the best way to experience Deloused 😉

    So that odd rhythm in the middle is a repeating pattern of 29 sixteenth notes. If you wanted to write the time signature on the staff for sheet music it would be 29/16 instead of 4/4. Figured this out a while back by playing the hi-hat beat with a marker on paper and counting the dots.

    Dunno if it's been done in the comments for this video before but, I'm going to try to translate the Spanish bits:
    *The very first verse:
    Niño, prepárate
    Que vas a sufrir
    Niño, prepárate
    Salte veneno
    Niño, prepárate
    Salte de aquí
    Niño, prepárate
    Rabia temblando
    Niño, prepárate
    Salte veneno
    Niño, prepárate
    Salte de aquí
    Niño, prepárate
    Brican los cuerpos
    Vas a sufrir
    In English:
    Boy, get ready
    'Cause you're going to suffer
    Boy, get ready
    Poison, get out
    Boy, get ready
    Get out of here
    Boy, get ready
    Rage trembling (or shaking)
    Boy, get ready
    Poison, get out
    Boy, get ready
    Get out of here
    Boy, get ready
    The bodies jump
    You're going to suffer
    *The bits before the chorus:
    Sangre, sonando
    De rabia nací
    In English:
    Blood, sounding (or ringing)
    I was born from rage
    I hope this helps :)

    The lyrics are sometimes in Spanish. And, yeah, this song is definitely a grower. I didn't love it at first, and it's now my favorite song in their catalogue.
    If you like the Latin sound, songs like L'Via L'Viaquez, Viscera Eyes, and Day of the Baphomets go there, too.
    As for the guitars on this album, John Frusciante (of the Red Hot Chili Peppers) does some guest guitar works. The Peppers toured with Cedric and Omar's previous band, At the Drive In, and they both do some guest bits on the first couple of Volta albums.
