I learned so much about carbs in general. perfect timing as I am working on my sportster’s carb this weekend. It makes sense that you were a science teacher! must be why your videos are so good! I know you plan to mostly do POV rides but I really love your how too’s more than any motorcycle how tos ive seen here on youtube university.
If you really want to know how the main jet is performing with more precision, ya have to shut the engine off at speed. Otherwise the idle jet impacts the plug appearance. At idle speeds you could be running rich, fouling the plug, and could actually be lean on the main. Love the vids!
For the most part I find the cv carb on my Sportster is ok but I don’t like the rubber diaphragm. I’ve got a Mikuni HSR42 knockoff on the shelf I plan on installing next Spring. It will be a nice addition to my Hammer 1275.
You wanted to know why the plastic on the slide is discolored. It is from back-fire. Mine was actually melted with a hole in the bellows. I was not able to find one on-line so I ordered a new carb.
Kinda like asking plumber to diagnos a clog over the phone. I'd take one thing at a time to isolate if it is the throttle. Then get a new one if it is the cable. Ya might've kinked it. Even the best new cable is less than an hours diagnosis at a shop so it's financially cheaper to just replace.

My marauder has 2 carbs. Haven't ridden in a while because one or both are sticking. Ugh
Had a question boss I bought new throttle cables and my throttle sticking mind helping me out ?
