    I have fully used the allen & heath qu-32, barely controlled the m-32/x-32 but always used them in my praise concerts and no matter what my heart still goes for the allen & heath qu-32. Now this gets me so excited hearing about this easily accessible features of this board especially as a worship leader/sound guy who does both work on a sunday service.

    Jake, AVB is an open and free standard that is designed to replace protocols like Dante. It is supported by multiple vendors (for example, you can integrate MOTU audio interfaces from their AVB line with your system) and has much better latency guarantees than Dante. It's also supported by modern Macbooks without any extra software.

      Not quite open... Only "certified" switchers and network gears work with it, and there's no "AVB virtual soundcard" for Windows... F*CK to OS discrimination

    Not going to lie, I wish i could get that board. My church bought an X32 2 years ago which was a big step up for us, but now our worship team is outgrowing it from a monitor sends standpoint. Presonus has always been a great innovator, but when we bought our board I couldn’t justify the extra 2500 to get a studio live 3 32 channel. Thanks for the great video!

    At our church, because we have a mobile setup that has to be set up and tore down every week, we use the Presonus 32R rackmount mixer. It works great! We have a dedicated Wi-Fi router for it, and we have not had any issues controlling it solely with an iPad.
    The only issue that I wish that they would update in its firmware is that I wish they would give it the ability to multitrack record to the built-in SD card slot like at the newer Studiolive mixers can.

When you say 'no clue', does it mean that you can't see the input gain level? Does it mean that gain structure has to be done on the computer?

    Know I'm a year after original posting, but going back and watching old videos of yours bc it's good content! With this board sounding better (more clear, and crisp as you said) than the M32, I have a question. Depending on which stage box you use is going to change which quality of preamps you get with the X32/M32. If your using the S32 stage box (the x32 version with Behringer preamps on the digital snake, which is what I've seen you use on your channel) as opposed to the DL32 (the M32 version with Midas preamps on the digital snake), have you compared the Midas Preamps to this Presonus? If so, between the Midas and Presonus, which would you say is better?

  • @ryank6988
    @ryank6988 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I don't know if someone has already asked this question? Why did you change from your Midas M32R? They appear to have a lot of the same options. Thanks.
    I have experience with the full sized M32, it is a great sounding board for the price.

    I purchased an Allen & Heath SQ-5 for my former church. It addresses--and has none of the downsides you mention--of the Presonus. To be honest, the SQ-5 has had teething problems with production quality due to its immense success. That's why it's important to register the unit for warranty issues. All of the Allen & Heath SQ series have developed a very devoted following. Having the heart of A & H's D-live series, it has more processing power and options than the Presonus could even dream of. Once you begin using the drag-and-drop touchscreen to build a custom control layer as you describe, or fall into the quick left-hand right-hand operational use of the SQ-5 console, it's hard to go something else without spending a lot more money.
    I love your passion, but this review has the earmarks of someone who was bedazzled by bells and whistles and didn't research other brands in the same category. Head to a local music store to see if there are floor models to "kick the tires" before purchasing. My personal bias is that I'm an Alllen & Heath fan and consider that my go-to console of choice--analog or digital. ;) ;)

      Haha, I agree they should hurry it up! On a side note the SQ is a very nice board. I own presonus for rentals, but the SQ is one I recommend for churches when doing quotes for installs. Just stay away from the QU... might be one of the most frustrating family of consoles I have used. That said if presonus can find a way for a solid dante integration I might start recommending them. I have an RM32AI at my church. And the only reason I don’t want to upgrade to series iii is that I can use many plugins live from studio one pro. The firewire 800 is still very fast to do all of it. I have a ton of plugins for instruments and vocal. The USB 2.0 on the new console (or rack) is just not going handle multiple tracks with live plugins. So needless to say, I am waiting for the next generation with thunderbolt connection (I hope). Once you go with plugins, the DSP on any console isn’t good enough IMHO. You just have to get a powerful PC to host Studio One Pro and all of the plugins. I use a lot of plugins by Waves and natives S1 as well.

    • @griffin8062
      @griffin8062 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm gonna disagree with you there. We have both an RM32AI and 32R at our school. The 32R can do 64x64 usb while the RM32 is more restrictive. I've done 32 channel recording as well as many live plugins with the 32R. Practically, the bandwidth is about the same because of firewire overhead

    • @haitruong7503
      @haitruong7503 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s actually the other way around. The FireWire architecture is peer to peer and with it, the overhead is less than USB which is master-slave type. The point is even the bandwidth is similar, which I highly doubted, I didn’t see the benefit of upgrading to the series iii. I still appreciate you telling me about your experience with the USB2 was good. But from my research, everyone said FireWire is better. Who knows if they found a way to optimize USB2 for the 32R. Thanks

      I am on the inside, being a reseller for Behringer/Midas. The truth is that Behringer for years had a bad rap of knocking off Mackie and was actually sued by Mackie. They also had really horrible quality control and atrocious customer service. When they merged with Midas (Music Group) and became a US based company, they decided to totally rebuild the Behringer name and make it a staple for church sound. In fact most of the people that work for music group are heads of ministries in their own churches. They are dedicated to always updating their current lineup, but they are also working on a new systems they're hoping to release in 2020 or early 2021. The difference is is that before they would just roll out boards without really testing their quality and making sure they work perfectly. Now they're focusing on being innovative and a leader in the digital console world. They can only do this by maintaining the excellent reputation they have built with the x32/m32 lineup and making sure the next lineup is just as affordable and dependable.

On our StudioLive 32 we have to go to each channel and move the master gain up by one and then back down by one to sometimes get a channel to work, We will be looking at other manufactures once we get tired of having to do this fix.

    “This board is amazing!” “But it lacks everything a good board has!” I love it guys! Haha. It’s a good board for the price, but the SQ would kick that out of the park. You don’t even know what your missing out on. The SQ is baby Dlive (digico)! Way more I/O, better UI, and dante! All from a digico. Give it a month and you’ll want to move on..

    My personal opinion on this new board:
    It is a lot similar to old good A&H iLive.
    First of usable digi console from that manufacturer, way better sounding than other consoles at it's age, flexi mixes, horrible touchscreen and glitchy app. The only difference is that iLive is now more than 15years old and like c'mon.
    Some inspiration came from Soundcraft SI series (the newer one).
    They have added some things that are really useful (but other consoles already have it) like user layers, flexi mixes.
    And combined it with some "we know what you need" bullcrap (not supporting dante, few built-in fxs, DCA fader follow, not enough hardware controls)
    I have had hands on this console and presonuses previous consoles as well as M32 at some events.
    I agree that it sounds better than native M32 (but when you know how to treat midas with some processing on master you get way more better clarity).
    But I wouldn't buy the presonus.
    I think that some faders will die in a short amount of time (thanks to flexi only mixes and DCA follow) - M32 has got faders designed by guys from Midas, which have some experience (Pro series has got the longest lasting faders I know), Presonus in the other hand haven't built one really reliable console yet, their faders (even not motorized) were a joke in terms of life span. The last thing you want is having your console on repair for one month (talking from experience with presonuses services).
    Anyways thanks for your video,glad to see using your churches wealth to experiment and encourage and teach others that doesn't have that possibilities.

    in my opinion, mixing inside the box is the best thing to do only for 300 dollars and you can do everything... they should stop making digital mixer and focus more on rack units with more DSP FX

      I agree! I thought the console is bulky. It takes too much space. Once I went with the RM32 touchscreen, the whole sound station reduced to just 1 or 2 monitors. I can even run studio one on a remote PC and display it at the sound booth for control. I don't see any reason to go back to a large console. The idea of having a console in front of a sound guy is old and gimmicky now - not to mention that if you have a console, you still have to have a computer next to it to handle other tasks like playing back stereo tracks and other setup that would be to clunky to do on the console.

      Not everyone especially volunteers with little to no experience will want to sit on a PC and not see everything that is going on. Something happens, not as easy to Fix / Correct for the new guy.
      Even with my decent Experience (Peavy's from the 70's) I much prefer seeing it all right there, no menu's, everything right there. This mixer is a good mix, allowing newer and Veteran sound operators to get the job done and done well.

    I think this is a good review that is helping me to make a buying decision. That said, one of my pet peeves is the frequent and completely unnecessary use of the word "actually". The worship leader here uses it over and over, and multiple times in a sentence. And each times he uses it, it's completely unnecessary, as leaving it out wouldn't change the meaning of what he is saying at all. We all have vocal tics, and we all sometimes use the unnecessary "actually". But we all aren't presenting ourselves as professional or influential speakers. I almost stop listening when a speaker is so unaware of what he is saying.

    Typical church environment... The "worship leader" never shuts up always thinks the know more than the audio engineer, regardless of that engineers skill set. Why was their audio guy even in the video? I kinda felt sorry for him after watching it... That's why I quit doing church audio years ago. I do audio for a living and I got sick and tired of feeding the egos of "worship leaders" who think they know everything because they took "intro to technology 101" years ago at seminary...

    • @LongHauler73

      Seems like a common theme. I am one of two sound and video techs at my church. Both of us have college degrees in Electronics Engineering Technology, with decades of training and experience doing sound, I also have several decades of training and experience in IT. Yet our worship leader who has no training in any tech, nor music for that matter, will not listen to either of us about anything. She is actually quite condescending about anything when we try to discuss anything with her. The stage noise from monitors is such that we could run without FoH speakers on and still get 85 dB at the booth almost 100 feet away. Are we allowed to balance and turn down the stage monitors? Heck no. It gets really frustrating when your 'leader' knows nothing about leading nor respects the experience and knowledge that the "peons" in the booth bring.
