It blows my mind how anyone from any hobby would frown on these because they're essentially a well designed, pre-built, model kit (with articulation) that just needs to be tweaked with paints. Its one of the best deals I've ever seen! Note: If you don't want to do a wash, you can dry brush it and pull out the sculpt details as well. Both techniques work really good.
This is fun is why it’s cool. I have sideshow premium format stuff and other high end collections but doing things like this has been fun and a great distraction from all the negative in the world. I did the alien queen but instead of dye I used a special auto body primer for vinyl. Painted it flat black and did a silver wash. This video has inspired me to make over the giant predator this company put out. Great tutorial.
Anyone that talks crap about these toys are crazy. Its an amazing figure and I give props to Lanard for delivering a bad ass toy for 10 bucks. Cool video too.
I've got ONE Neca fig and there isn't a single joint I didn't have to pin because of breaking - and no, I didn't play with it, I put it in a pose and over the course of two yeras one after another the joints broke.
I can't wait to find the Predator figures, I've only seen Xenomorph's and have bought 2 of each. I used black dye method I saw on one of your previous vids along with silver dry brushing and the end result have been great.
Great #diy video Anthony. I can't stand the people that try to compare this line to neca. Two totally different class of toys. And honestly for $10 it's a great line.
I bought this toy and I started to repaint it completely, trying to imitate the NECA figure. Nice video, it's good to see that more people are giving importance to these toys.
I just picked up the Alien runner set today. I'm definitely gonna try to give the alien figure a wash... probably the facehugger too. Im not a customizer by any means, but this looks easy enough. Always wanted to try my hand at it and with these costing $10, Im not too scared to give it a shot, lol. Good job explaining too! Ive seen a few others who over complicate this process. Thanks!
Great vid! Nice to see some love for these new Pred figures. Lanard figures have some great details. Not just these new lines, but all the way back to late 90's with their "t-crotch" figures. Tons of details that just need some paint. A little paint, some dry brushing and a wash, you can end up with some really great looking figures. I prefer to use oil based wood stain for my washes.
Lanard Alien/Predator line feels EXACTLY like the Kenner Alien line did when I was a kid, namely the Aqua Alien and its packaging. Durability A+, packaging A+,low price A+, Sculpt B+/A-, Articulation C/B, paint D. perfect for kids to start a collection, to army build, or just to test out customizing without going broke.
Great video for beginning modders. A quick easy way I've found to detail my figures is adding a "mud wash" using black oil paint, it's slow drying so I paint all the limbs then wipe down with a paper towel. I also use magic erasers to take off stubborn spots.
Let's compare the NECA Predators always break almost all the time versus lanard I have not had one break on me so yeah the price difference is apples and oranges but for a quality toy I'm going to go with lonard ya neca is done a lot of predators but I feel that lanard is done a good job
GREAT work!! I just bought the city hunter and I was very impressed with them for the price!! I had wondered if someone tried a wash or added some more paint apps!!
Just wanted to say, that I followed your guide here for my Lanard Predator 2 figure, and it's so bad ass. I really liked the original paint job and think it has character for sure, but I got a second one a few weeks later because I wanted to try it out from your video. Thanks for all the information, great video!
I just now started to get back into collecting toys. It started when I finally decided to set up a display area for all my original Kenner Star Wars figures. That led me down a rabbit hole of toy collecting. I also like the idea of customizing toys. I used to laugh at people that did this. Now I totally want to do this. Funny thing is these predator figures are now around $20 at Walmart. I’m still going to pick up a few and practice my wash skills, yours looks pretty. I’d rather spend $100 on four or five figures and customize them vs. spend $30-$40 per figure. Plus to be able to focus on something cool and a bit artistic like this would keep me off the comment sections on other sites. Thanks for this.
Dude I have that and the sculpt is literally the same as a neca but without the over the top articulation a repaint with those in the right hand sets it on par with a neca and if your kid wants one they can have it because those are durable
Great video my guy. I am a fan of the McFarlane line and I love to blackwash my figures. Cheap figures with a lot of detail rock. They are my favorite to collect because it's easy to customize them. Most expensive figures look "done" and sure that's fine. But customizing is way more personal and enjoyable imo. You should get into Gunpla and Plamo in general. The Japanese will turn literally anything into a model kit, from super Heroes to cars, to giant robots, and even Ramen Noodles.
Wow! Looks a million times better! Great #HowTo video Anthony! Going to have to pick up this line now and try it. I don't really like #NECA personally. They are way to fragile for the price.
i have tons of neca and i have to say i like these better. neca break like crazy, are stiff as hell so they're horrible to play with and articulate. these are much more sturdy, articulation is very good and it's a joy to play with these. talking about the aliens and predators.
Yeah, these are awesome figures. Oh, and smack a Lanard and Neca Predator together and guess which one will shatter into pieces? Hint...it ain't Lanard. LOL
Thx for the pro tips and tutorial, im really looking for it. Planning to get figma predator, but the copper armor color so meh for me. Planning to paint it silver, with some shading..
Good to see people are going back to making children's toys based on R rated films again. Got the whole wave at my local Walmart for 10.88 a pop, and they were selling these for a 20 dollar price point originally
Any HELP would be greatly appreciated. Is there any way to repair a broken hip ball-joint peg? The peg for the right leg snapped in half and it's stuck in the leg. Pliers aren't pulling it out and only tearing up the peg. And is there any way to repair the peg IF I get it out?
@@AHDToys once i get the peg out after heating it up... there's no real way to repair it? Aside from super glue? Darn. I threw away the receipt. So I doubt Walmart will let me exchange it.
This looks cool but I'm curious would kids still be able to play with these figures if there dyed/Painted? Cause it's a shame Lanard couldn't make it the right colors. Maybe the idea was to make it more kiddish or something not sure. But these toys are great for kids to play with instead of those really delicate figures like NECA, Hot toys, and Hiya toys well maybe Hiya toys are playable lol idk. But this is a great custom design for just collecting and making it look worth more money. I watched ur video with the Alien queen and drones it was pretty neato great work!
I just bought a predator figure from Walmart and it is pretty big, about 12" tall. The gun on the shoulder actually lights up. It's the same molded color. Thanks for the tips!!!
My dude, you did those fishnets painstakingly difficult. You've never seen anyone use a tooth pick? Just dip a toothpick in some black paint and roll it over the netting. It works just as well and takes half the time. Other than that, sweet video. 🤘

I still enjoyed this toy as a neca fan
same
I have the neca queens, but my 5yr old can beat these up rather than the Neca

Great tutorial.
Agreed!
Hey! What’s the vinyl paint you used. That Alien queen sounds awesome.
what did you end up doing to the giant pred?
The line has a nice charm so im ok with it existing, i think neca fanboys are to hard on it

@@bladerunner3314 same with Mcfarlane toys
@@robertchambers6344 Well, I only have McFarlanes from the 90's and the only thing broken on them is an ellbow on a Spawn.
U should see the Lanard queen done in black dye paint and silver teeth! Amazing
Awesome repaint! I think some silver dry brushing on the armour could work as well!

Great tutorial. The Lanard Aliens figures repainted very nicely as well- particularly the "dog" Xenomorph.
Fantastic custom work man! I thought the same thing when I saw those figures at wally-world the other week, great for customizing for a solid price!

I wanna see you do the 12inch jungle hunter with paint :)
I gotta wonder, had Lanard actually utilized this level of painting during production, what would the price end up being?
Maybe 15$

Predator collectors like to dislike this line because they don't want to feel dumb about over paying for NECA crap lol.

I just wish i could find them at my Wal-Mart! Damn it looks so good!
Stupid question. Water based acryllic paint correct?
is that based of a neca mold?
Nice vid Bro you should do a tutorial on how to black wash sphinx from the power rangers LC, that would be great!

Is there any way to repair a broken hip ball-joint peg?
The peg for the right leg snapped in half and it's stuck in the leg.
Pliers aren't pulling it out and only tearing up the peg.
And is there any way to repair the peg IF I get it out?
Unfortunately no. You could always super glue it. But it wouldn't be very strong.
And to try to get it out. Use a hair dryer to make the plastic softer to pull it out. Or throw it in some hot water for a few my minutes
@@AHDToys once i get the peg out after heating it up... there's no real way to repair it? Aside from super glue? Darn.

It's the from the neca Ultimate edition predator figure.

Why don't you repaint the armour?
Just repainted the 12 inch Jungle Predator. It looks better then a NECA figure.
Thank you so much I did very similar recently. Thank you so much
Glad it helped
These are €7 now in Ireland, they are great and in going to customise mine soon. Where were they when I was growing up 😩😩😩😩.

Twenty dollars compared to eighty...? Hey! If I can get all three, I'll be happy.
I live in Australia in case you're wondering.
I love how hardcore collectors complain about affordable action figures that are easy to find.
For anyone wondering: SHARPIE DOES WORK of course I don’t think it’s as good or meant for this as the model marker is, it worked for me.

So as a general rule, when dealing with figures that already have paint on them, an acrylic based wash is safe to use? Thanks for the vid
Dry brushing is another option to paint the fishnets, also instead of a black wash brown washes other color washes can make some nice effects.
why did bro even paint the entire thing black for a minute
