  • Some final panels and tool boxes and storage for the buggy before we head down to Farmington for W.E.ROCK and for 24 Hell and Back. We got everything mostly done and halfway tested and was loading up to head to Farmington when we got a call for a jeep on Pritchett Canyon with a broken front trackbar mount. So Mike and I took the buggy and ran in to weld it. We got them back together and they decided to finish the trail. So we went back down and loaded up. Thank you everyone for watching and supporting us.

      So was it just a trail repair and did you get it back home and rework it any more or is it a good to go fix?

    • @TheTexasjsz24
      @TheTexasjsz24 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Yes just a trail repair. The welds completely came off the axle shaft. It was my buddies jeep. After Rory welded it, we finished finished trail. And definitely put some pressure to it on the way out. Held up just fine. They did as of today get the bracket rewelded at their shop.

    Speaking of ammo boxes, a few days ago, I was just leaving a tire store and across the street, an antique store was having a tent sale. I ran across a vendor selling a 60mm mortar round ammo box. Another great watch! Special mention to Rory for being super kind, even more than usual for sharing with us how he utilizes the mechanical grip in so many ways while wheeling, fixing, recovering, etc. It's his complete understanding of the physics of it all that has allowed him to build, modify, drive, fix, recover, and just about problem solve anything he encounters. It's that combined with his experience and super sound logic (hey, making splashes usually is very fun, usually) that is all wrapped up in this fully accountable, very humble but also very fun character that is RORY IRISH !!! You're a super unique individual man and someone I enjoy watching and fully respect, and I'm just so thankful that you shared some of your life with us because although "sharing is caring", being out and about, doing your thing gets difficult when your recognizable. Its all about tradeoffs and if in the end it all equals out as a NET POSITIVE it would had been all worth it - almost, kind of, maybe like an unnecessary front dig (forgot what you all call it but its the maneuver when you lock the rear, anchoring it while apply throttle and steering input to the front axle) and all I'll say to that is I'll (that being YOU) be the judge on whether or not its necessary...and guess what Rory, you'll certainly be right! Haha!

      The calcium chloride used in tractor tires is nasty stuff. Horribly corrosive to steel wheels and even the stainless and brass parts of your valve cores. I like the glycol idea, maybe propylene glycol.
      I’m not sure I like additional unsprung weight in a four-wheeler. Puts additional twisting loads on ball joints, etc., plus dead weight in vertical climbs (notice how much more poorly the buggy climbs vertical steel?)

Great for off road applications to increase traction and stability as weight is low. Not great on road as upsprung weight is 8lbs / gal higher can get funky bounces on road at speed

    I can visualize that extra 400 ish pounds pulling the rear of the the buggy up and over ... and you cannot get the weight any lower. I had a Landscape/ Waterfall/ etc company for 30 years and all my loaders and tractors had water in them for traction and to get the CofG down as low as possible helps keep your equipment out of retention ponds and I noticed less damage to yards, not as much rutting, I guess better traction, but I learned it from an old farmer that I worked in his Garden Center in my earlier years, and just kept doing it. The only tire I finally gave up and went 'perma-runflats', WHEELBARROWS, man I replaced at least 98 tires before I said the heck with this and never looked back. Love you guys!

    Can not believe you took it out before you had it fully enclosed and insulated to keep the dust out. As a professional you will not need luck , JUST SHOW THEM HOW IT'S DONE 👍

    Had no idea the long slip joints even existed. In the late 60's, early 70's the 350 swapped FJ 40 Land Cruisers swapped front and rear driveshafts, and got away without having to build new shafts. Same sort of idea.

    Rory would it be possible to see the drive shaft and wiring on Mike's Death Star? I am curious to see.
    It is smart to take an extra drive shaft for 24 hour to hell and back

    I like your idea of dual brake pedals. How about left and right pedals like a backhoe, to get you out of a tight spot? Used with open diffs

    We use beet juice in tractor tires as well..works good & its heavy..but im not sure how much weight you would want in pickup size tires..but it seems to me that the volume in the tire would be important...i know when the tire guys fill tractor tires they have a chart & go by tire size..but they do it by liquid volume %%. If you posituon the valve stem about 11 or 1oclock.
    Thats about the level of the ballast inside...I'm sure the correct volume would get the desired results...but, hey..who does things by the book??? Right ?? Thats boreing !!!

    We run salt water in our farm tractor tires. The salt adds density to the weight of the water.
