- The topwater pond bass fishing was ridiculous in the backyard pond on the 2nd evening in Chicago! I started out with a plan to flip the weeds, but after 2 casts with the Whopper Plopper 90, it was clear that topwater was the technique of choice for the night! This pond is so off the charts insane for numbers of bass, I can honestly say I've never caught so many bass in such a short time in my life!!!

I've caught more and bigger bass on a Whopper plopper #90 then any other size.its my go to lure always.
I bought a 90 Wopper Plopper at Academy Academy Sports Warehouse. High dollar for me. $12.99. Drove a hr and a half to get to Terre Haute. From Indianapolis. Tried it finally at a small pond. First cast. Bam!!!!!!! 3 pounder then caught 11 more in 40 minutes. Topwater flurry! Oh! What fun! Then tried another pond on the first cast lost the Wopper Plopper. I was damn mad about it no way to retrieve it back. But, Man. What a 40 minutes. I am hooked on the Wopper Plopper now. Tried to buy more. Shawn

Yup, the Whopper Plopper series has been amazing for me as well...Smallmouth in rivers and lakes, largemouth in lakes and pike in rivers and plenty of large fish. I sometime have to force myself to start with or change baits because of the success I've had with the various sizes. I'm also a believer that the color is far secondary to WP's action/sound when attracting fish.
I’ve been watching whopper plopper videos on TH-cam for a couple of years now. I finally went to Academy Sports earlier in the year and I caught my PB bass on a whopper plopper 90. I am sold on the effectiveness of the River2Sea lures.

I've had the same experience with the Whopper plopper 90 at a lil pond.
looks like that you may have an over population problem with so many small bass. You might want to take some of them out and let the others get big

im just now started using a whopper plopper but no luck yet, had two strikes but no hook up cant wait till spring during spawn here in north florida area. small ponds are exceptional for bass fishing and even the creeks here have big ole five pound bass.

I took my Sun Dolphin Sportsman mini bass boat out last night on a small local lake and I caught 5 bass and 1 crappie on a whopper plopper 90 in a little under 2 hours of fishing. The plopper is king!!!
St. Croix avid is one of my favorites. Usually run it with open face spinner though not baitcast. Sweet vid, crushed the basssssssssss

Love the action. I had a morning like that this morning. I was throwing a chatter bait mini and caught great numbers. The morning was topped off by a 3.84 pound largemouth. This was my PB.

NICE... just bought 2 and hope I have as much luck as you did in a few days.
I've had many a day/nite like you just had at my brother n laws 4 acre pond in middle Kansas. I just got a couple of whopper plopper 90's and a couple torpedos and the bass smash them. Caught over 30 in a day a couple of times, mostly in the 2 - 3 lb range. Biggest one so far has been a little over 4 1/2 lbs caught in some weeds about 3 ft from shore. Fantastic lure my favorite!

I'm down here in Fla. and It's nothing to go to a pond and get a 5-8lb bass, but I have only ever caught like 8 in one spot on the same lure... Awesome video man!

I have a little honey hole over here in the broward county area, I pull out 8&9's almost all day on a good day and of course some dinks but that's only natural right?

I bought one whooper plooper, took it out and never looked back. I use the 75, 90, 130 and have one tackle tray just for them.
I often catch bigger bass than I am getting on a senko bite.

I would like the numbers but at the same token anybody would love that one 8-pounder....nice fishing .... I have a few Whopper ploppers and hands down they work great love them ....
Little tip that I’m sure you know, but when your fishing top water it’s best to let the fish take the bait a few more seconds than normal before setting the hook. That’s why you missed that first bass, the hook set was a little to quick.
That applies to a frog so the bass can start to swallow the lure but since a whopper plopper has treble hooks it is just a reaction hookset instead of the wait 2 seconds and set

Yes man! The double plopper has been working great for me on lakes! Catches some quantity, but mostly quality!!! And I thought it would be like super expensive but it's only like 16 bucks. Can't beat it for its quality.
+Clayboss101 agree with you on quality. I bought it last Friday, went fishing the next day with perfect conditions for topwater. Lake water level was up 2ft from rain storms previous days, overcast, banks were flooded, nice chop on the water from winds...2nd cast I hooked into a 4lb bass easily and 3 cast later a solid chunk 3lb. It really won me over with the fact that it floats. Opens up new ways to fish a buzzbait.

+ChiCityYaker yeah, it floats for sure. That saved me. I made a bad case with my braid and it snapped and went flying. Sure enough a few yards down was my Buzzbait. Saved me!
+Clayboss101 lol lucky. Try dead-buzzing it...it's the name I made for the technique. Reel 2x's...pause 3-5secs...repeat till its out of the strike zone. Found it works when bass are lazy.

Have you tried the sunfish? For me, I'd throw a sun fish over a frog any day, but that's just me. But whopper plopper is great for open water!

+SouthernViking look up live target hollow body sun fish. They're around $12.99. The smaller version seems to work better for me, but I just walk it sorta fast on top of muck and grass and works great!

I live in Florida don't know what I'm doing wrong but I can't get a bite on the Whopper plopper I cast it and I reel it at different speeds and I can't get a bite . Any advice. On how to work the bait.

Hey you think the whopper blooper is better on braid or mono
It's probably fine on either one since they both float. You'll just have the benefit of the no stretch with braid and it may help with the hook set on a long cast...
Is the 90 model 3.5" long or 4" long? I've seen it listed as both, a little confusing. I want a little bigger one so that there would be enough weight for me to cast it further. Thanks.

I had three fish jump and shake the hooks out tonight using the whopper plopper. Those were my first top water bass with a treb hook do I need to set the hooks hard or just reel it in steadily?
A good hook-set is important...but give it a second and feel the fish before you set the hook.
