    Great vid as always. I love how easy the GSG packs are to put together. For the braces on 18' kit, I also had a small issue of getting them to slide into place easily. What I did was just "lightly" sand the edges of the braces, then BADDA BING BADDA BANG they slide right into place. Outside of that, the builds are super easy. If you really want to go cheap on clamps or a way to hold the wood tight, use the small cheap ratchet straps. You can get a 3 pack for under $20. With a combination of those and clamps and brad nails, boxes go together quick. I agree about titebond 2, it seems to have the right consistency to stay in place long enough to get the pieces of wood together. titebond 3 is just too thin.

Honestly, I'm starting to lean against mentioning costs cause so many times products change, go on sale, etc before the video even comes out! For example, these boxes dropped about 20% including shipping after they were sent to me!

    If I understand correctly, At The rear side of the box, the port looks like one single massive continuous portion. At the bottom side of port, it is divided into 3 partitions. Logically I'm not sure if the port functionality remains same. Because in any simulation software like Winisd, port is considered uniform throughout the length. I mean, when some portion of the port is partitioned, does it change the way the air resonate in the port ...

    • @LifeofBliss

    I wish it were easier to buy enclosures finished up & looking good. Some of us out here CAN'T do this DIY stuff. We're not physically capable.
    Just being honest. If I were physically capable of putting together one of these flat packs....I'd just pay someone for a design & build the box my-own-self from the ground up....which is exactly how I handled this situation for 30 years.
    ...but now I can't feel my hands, and my back is too screwed up to be lifting stuff & bending over a thousand times.
    ...but anyway, back to the "finished up & looking good" enclosures that can't be found or purchased. It's like $1,200 for a Duratex painted box from GSG. Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking their enclosures. They look great and they look strong. Pricing is fair for the flat packs, too. My issue lies w/ the finish...and the finish alone.
    That Duratex stuff is ugly, imho. I'm not a fan. ...and I don't want to place a gigantic box that's coated in the stuff in my living room. We put thousands into oak hardwood flooring & decorating...and a humongous black, bumpy box ain't got a place in the room. Not now. Not ever.
    I felt exactly the same when I was doing car audio. I'd never put a rhino liner coated box into a $65,000 vehicle. I think it looks unprofessional. Being honest, I'd rather have my enclosure wrapped in carpeting than Duratex...and carpeting doesn't look good either. ...but at least it takes some skill to wrap a box.
    For $1,200, an EMPTY enclosure should look however the buyer wants it to look. Just sayin'....

    • @LifeofBliss
      @LifeofBliss  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hear ya. It's not for everyone. I agree with you for the most part besides the skill to wrap a box part. Both take skill. Different amounts of prep, especially when spraying an enclosure. Carpet can cover nearly a 1/16th to 1/8th inch edge on a box. Can't do that with duratex or any other painted finish.
      I think the biggest issue here is the price of finishes and the time it takes to prep and apply properly. Want a gloss finish with auto paints? You can probably double your $1200 price tag, more if I was doing it. Especially for the size of some of these boxes. Prices of veneer have gone way up; along with all the raw wood costs since the whole economic collapse with covid.
      I understand $1200 is a lot for a box. I don't disagree. I think duratex just allows companies to get a painted look without the extreme prep that some higher end finishes require. That all takes time, and time is money my friend 😉

    • @dizzle1119
      @dizzle1119 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LifeofBliss I'm in total agreement, and I take back the statement that a $1,200 box should look however we want. That is a bit much, as prep work is massively time consuming for a mirror finish. ...and a mirror finish should cost a lot more than Duratex. ...but for $1,200 there should be a 2nd option other than Duratex. I mean sand it smooth & apply 2 coats of a satin stain & 1 coat of spray on poly. Somethin'....other than bumpy & black.
      On top of that, most of us who are willing to spend $1,200 on an enclosure, are going to be willing to put out more $$$ in order to have it look the way we want it to look. This is an expensive hobby outright, and that's a fact, but this DIY stuff, as is, is more expensive than buying a finished product a lot of the time. In my case, I have the sub I want to use. I have the amp I want to use....and JUST A BOX is going to cost more money than buying something like a SVS PC-2000 PRO...or an Emotiva XS15. ...and it's not even designed for my driver. Heck, they don't even make these boxes for a 15" driver AT ALL. They're actually doing me a favor by doin' this.
      ...and of course my DIY sub would be "better" than an entry level SVS or Emotiva model in the end...but it also cost 2.5x the $$$ all said. $600 driver, $500 amp, $1,200 box. We're talkin' $2,200 - $2,300 here...and that's just the money side of things. Never mind all the waiting, and purchasing separate parts from various distributors. Some of them from half way across the globe. I could just as easily buy TWO SVS PC-2000 Pros or TWO Emotiva XS15s. Again, I know they aren't as good...but it's not like they're trash either. Would my one DIY sub outperform two 15"s on 1.1kw? I doubt it. I really do.
      All I'm really saying is...it shouldn't be that difficult, within this extremely expensive hobby, for someone to locate an enclosure builder who wants to make some $$$. Quite frankly, I've spent MONTHS sending out emails to about 2 dozen different enclosure builders and GSG & Next Level Fabrications are the only ppl who even got back to me. That's nonsense. It truly is. I am even telling some of these guys "Hey, I have this pair of 12" Incriminator Audio Flatlynes OR this 15" Soundsplinter RL-p15. You choose. Whichever is most interesting to you. Build whatever type of enclosure ya want, too. Just make it satin black & smooth so it matches my speakers & doesn't stand out like a sore thumb in the room"
      If we're willing to put $2k into a box, there should be way more than 1 or 2 ppl out there wanting that job.
      ...and for the type of $$$ we spend on this audio stuff, we should have a say in how our custom projects look. That's all...

      I would agree, you don't know... wood glue is stronger than screws and you don't have those giant holes to fill and prep before finishing.
