- Hello everyone. My name is Navneet Agarwal from Navneet Gems & Minerals, the marketing manager here and also a graduate gemologist from GIA Carlsbad, USA. In this video you will show you in 30 seconds how to detect diffusion treatment in most sapphires.
Welcome to our channel today at Navneet Gems & Minerals. Before I forget, please click the subscribe button to not miss any videos from us in the future. With all your love we have reached 3000+ subsribers and our single videos have touched 300,000 views. So thank you.
For this tutorial you will need a soft diffused light source with any translucent cloth. A tweezer and a loop to see close up if needed.
Once you place the stone on the cloth you can start to make calls - if the sapphire is treated with diffusion treatment you will likely see a concentration of color on the edges of the stone’s facets like this stone here. However in this second sapphire without diffusion you will not be able to see any concentration of color on most facets. Let me give you 2 stones and let you guess whether latice diffused or not in the comment below: Number 1 stone: (write your comment here with the number 1 and your answer) and now Number 2 stone: (write your comment here with the number 2 and your answer).
Thank you so much for watching this tutorial on detecting lattice diffusion in 30 seconds in most sapphires. Please share this video with your loved ones to check for diffusion with few easy steps at home - DIY.

I have a question, as a unprofessional gemology fan where I can get soft light sources? Maybe a lamp is work? Or cellphones’ light? Or a torch?
Thank you for the question.Yes, phone light is good idea if you can diffuse it .
Sir please tell me how to differentiate between japani and Italian ref coral
Red coral
Italian Coral Gemstone:
It is one of the most commonly trading varieties of India, especially used by the traders of North India. It is the collection of corallum rub rum which is found in the Mediterranean Sea with a depth of 10 to 300 meters below sea level.
Japanese Coral Gemstone:
This gemstone is also use in India as social status. In ancient times there was a ritual of gifting Japanese Coral stone to the groom and the bride during the marriage.
Thank You!
2 is real. Got that color banding too

Hi! Is this little test right for corundum at all, including rubies I mean? Thank you
This is for Sapphires. If you are looking for rubies, you can visit our website:www.navneetgems.com/
A ruby is a red sapphire!
How to detect diffusion in star stones? Are they treated to generate the star and enhance color at the same time, or can it be done separately?
Honestly, the best way is to send to GIA, they can grade the stones 100% with the confidence. But star in diffusion stone usually has color concentration, but being a cabochon that could be difficult, so you better see the price you are buying it at, if its a steal price, then forget it, because it wont happen.
Diffused stone is it treated ?? For astrology purpose is it beneficial?? I mean treated
A treated gemstone does not have the same magical properties that a pure untreated stone does. Thus, such stones are not preferred in astrology.
Diffused means treated???

Carson and Nina would be proud
Thank you for the response.
Hi there, when u say diffusion, does it mean it is heated? Sorry, newbie here..
Diffusion is a technique whereby certain natural elements, those used in nature when colouring allochromatic gems, are placed on the surface of the gem during the heating process and the colour is diffused into the gem.
You can also check our article on heat treatment of sapphires: www.navneetgems.com/htp-treatment-on-blue-sapphire-qa-with-mubashir-mansoor/.

Thank You for sharing your response. One is diffusion. For more details please visit us at www.navneetgems.com
So the concentration of color at the edge means a diffusion?
Diffusion occurs when molecules in an area of higher concentration move to an area of lower concentration.
This type of detection works for stones that have experienced diffusion before being faceted. The color enhancement can only go so deep - when the rough piece of sapphire is faceted, much of the surface is removed which also removes much of the "new" color. It's at the facet edges that the least amount of material has been cut away. As a result, the added color will be thicker along those lines as apposed to the center of each facet.
#1 yes. #2 no

is this what they call titanium diffusion?
The key indicator of diffusion is color bleeding - dark concentrations of the stone's color - around pits and fractures that extend to the stone's surface. Other indicators of treatment include melted crystals, spotty stripes of color, fractures around inclusions, and pits on the surface.
2 diffused

so the last number 2 is unheated ??
Sapphire is treated with diffusion treatment you will likely see a concentration of color on the edges of the stone’s facets like this stone here. However in this second sapphire without diffusion you will not be able to see any concentration of color on most facets.
@@NavneetGemsMineralsthxx but its hard sometimes. For eg, I have a pink sapphire and it is a ring so how should i do it

what is a diffusion?
The diffusion technique, which involves the addition of color-causing chemicnls during heat trentment, results in a thin layer of color at the surface of colorless or light-colored sapphire.
