Excellent video! I appreciate the minimal talking, I prefer to just see you work. I spent about 8 years as a groundhand/driver and was lucky enough to have a great lineman who was willing to share his knowledge and allow me some time in the bucket, as well as a few pole climbs. Thank you for the job you do, I know it’s rarely easy but your work is appreciated!
Do you still do this work? Because I am very close to getting into this industry but I’m new to the field and very green and would like to know some tidbits thank you
Word to the wise. When youre drilling a hole with the impact, once the bit gets through the pole - if you flip the impact in reverse and hold the gun from being pushed back - youll clean out the hole and send all the chips out the back of the pole instead of towards you.
Nice job. I've worked for Eustis. A couple of things I noticed, not finding fault nut a broken latch on the carabiner invites trouble and an automatic instead of a preform puts the bare strand right in front of you instead of fighting with the preform making life difficult. Nice job tho, pleasure watching
to close to cable company on your attachment buck squeeze im glad they come out with that i had to climb poles without them had to use just a climbing belt back in the day
Never used one of those climbing contraptions, always free climbed. I understand the safety thing but I'm glad I'm retired so I don't have to use the squeeze
Does anybody know how to get a job as a telecommunications Lineworker? I looked into school but couldn’t get the funding for it. I’m in school now obtaining my CDL-A but would love to do this instead.
Depending on where you live - If your telephone company is union - apply there as soon as possible. If you have to wait until they are hiring, you can still put an application in and leave it on file and you can get a job with any fiber contractor in the meantime. You’ll get some experience, pretty much guarantee youll get hired at the phone company when they are looking, and start with them at a higher scale then bottom pay. Even if its a pay cut to move over to them (i doubt it will be), take it. Even if its a job opening for something other than line - you TAKE IT.. Whatever they are hiring for - YOU TAKE IT - you get your foot in the door into a (hopefully) large company (ya know, a career - not just a job) and you do whatever you have to, to get in - and then wait for an opening to transfer to LIne, or Fiber Splicing. You’ll see two completely different worlds between working for a contractor and working the union side. It’ll be like going on vacation and getting paid more for doing less. This way hopefully by the time youre 50, you wont be walking around like a cripple. Notice how most contractors dont have 40 and 50 yr olds working out in the field? Theres a reason for that.
Just apply to a local cable company. Installers still gaff and it’s a way to get your foot in the door. Bust your ass and work your way up. Turnover is usually high so you can move up pretty quick. I’ve been with my company for less and 2 years and I just got a bucket the other day. I don’t think there’s schools for this specific line of work. You could go to lineman school but at that point just become an electrical lineman and you’ll make a lot more money haha. Most internet providers have classes you take as you go and train you how to climb. Its usually a learn as you go type of thing. To be honest they’ll hire just about anyone as long as you’re willing to do the work.
Well it really depends what you want to do in the future, if your goal is to work for the power company then I would suggest getting into the Union, if you want to be a communications lineman then there are a lot of options out there that will all probably pay around the same depending on the size, they all like to see some experience with climbing which is where SLTC will help a lot.
LineLife I’m very worried about Out of school/graduate Starting pay because I’ll most likely have to move states to where the good jobs are. I just don’t want to go to school just to get out and make $12 bucks an hour again like I do now.
@@jaylooker6370 So my advice would be to try to get in with the local phone company as a lineman if there is a spot available, probably would start out right around 18-20 an hour. Perks of this job would be staying local.
@@chrisstover1877 I don't think that's true as there are companies hiring for that exact thing. I understand there is a negative stigma surrounding those "lower on the pole" then others...I don't think I would need to leave my area after school for tele where as power I would need to find somewhere away from home to get my foot in the door from what I've read. Are you a electrical lineman and how did you get your start? Thanks for the comment.
Is their a communication linemen union? Specifically for the Houston Texas area I tried looking online but can not find anything or I'm just not looking in the right direction
I'm not quite sure the work situation down there. I know up here where I am the Union work is more focused on the power company but as a union worker you may be doing all sorts of related jobs depending on who needs help.
Real line man work with high voltage power. Shit I do your job as well on the poles I'm on. Pretty sure any one and their brother could be 20 foot fiber or cable dare devils.
You said 20ft dare devils but you pussys don’t even climb. We are 40” from power most times on co-op builds. You have fancy equipment to do everything. You realize the first lines on a pole were communications? Lmao.
I’m 19 and just graduated high school, I’m making more money than the majority of my teachers. So I’m sorry that I’m not working for my local power company 8 months after graduation. Last I checked you boys get paid by the hour, so you work slow.
I went to NLC in meridian, graduated, and did telecom work until i got in with edison. I dont think ive ever worked so hard in my life until i did telecom, i think i climbed 25 - 30 poles a day. Every day, for 2 years. Edison i just chill in a bucket, yea i deal with power, but holy shit, telecom wad the toughest days of my life

So glad I didn't have to use these bucksqueezes back when I hooked the sticks. Makes climbing 10 times slower.
Nice video, I just started doing the same thing! I really like it
Awesome footage and work keep making vids
Thanks, will do!
Keep doing these pleaseeee
will do, thanks for the interest, I really appreciate it!
Your videos are golden truth bro thank you
I've never seen a pre-form with bread ties😂 did your buck squeeze come with a tampon?😂

Get the cdl and after that, look at an in-house job. Look up communications contractors near you.

Do you stand splice at every pole? I'm wondering why you did.
I’m going to SLTC in August. What companies hire Doing This/What companies pay the most out of school

Looking into going to school at Northwest for their TLP program. Did you go to school or jump right into an apprenticeship?
There is no apprenticeship for telecommunications go to northwest for power lineman school

What do you do if you come across a bad pole that should be replaced?
A survey is done by engineers of the path being built and that is done before they give the work to a contractor like this
Nice Job.
Pig ears don’t go on wood pole right..? Only rams heads

Re-title this "Day in the life of an old worn out carabiner". Poor little feller...
us lineman dont drive the trucks we did our time
Clean your cab out
Never ever do a straight splice over a driveway or street.
