Mozart‘s last concert aria for bass is, for me, the most beautiful of the 4 he wrote. Splendidly done as on Quasthoff‘s CD collection of Mozart arias. I was fortunate to see & hear him perform this wonderful piece, with other Mozart arias, in Hamburg a few years later.

It’s too bad that Quasthoff has retired from public performance. This aria, which I’d never heard before, is simply gorgeous! Quasthoff, as he can be counted on to do, puts everything he has into it. He has a gorgeous lower register, which is more prominently displayed in his equally superb jazz singing.

But I agree, that was the climaxe of his voice's best period. (just someone who adores him since 30 years)

There is no doubt that Thomas Quasthoff is one of te best singers in the world, but...This is quite easy to sing. The challenge is, with no doubt, in the contrabass! Well done!

@@larsarvidson7585 of course. I know that. That’s why Mozart wrote the piece which is actually very rare, having a Double Bass solo. Unfortunately the Double bass is not the best solo instrument.

Christoph Anacker ("dieser Bassist") FANTASTICO!!! Der Name des Kontrabassisten ist übrigens angegeben! Ihre Umgangsformen sind nicht den ausführenden Künstlern angemessen...;
Universal Ensemble Wer Ahnung von Kontrabass hat, wird wissen, dass der Christoph Anacker fantastisch gespielt hat. Das Stück ist nämlich extrem virtuos! Eine enorme Leistung, musikalisch und technisch. Chapeau!
