He was anxious and an alcoholic, if we had a criminal JUSTICE system it would give him the counselling he needs to deal with his anxiety and his addiction.
But it wont, it will lock him up and throw him out with no money, no job and no prospects, then wonder why he re-offends!
We have tried this for centuries, ever more serious punishments, and it has’t stopped recidivism. Maybe it’s time to try something new!

Bring back the death sentence for serious crimes and lock up repeat serial offenders for life. That said for minor offenders there should be a support and help system to make sure they don't needto reoffend.A clean place to live,a drivers licence and a job should be prioritised for people coming out of prison. That will go a long way to stop people comitting 'economic'offences. And a councelling and psycological service would help too.

That’s a great plan for wasting obscene amounts of money and killing innocent people. Be prepared to tell the families of the innocent people you’ve ritually sacrificed why their murders were justified despite being completely unnecessary.

Children need fathers, criminals need prison, serious criminals need the rope and then there would suddenly be the money to pay for an effective police force instead of wasting £800+ a day per prisoner who will never be safe to release.

Unless you want to live in some authoritarian shithole in which convicted people get taken out back and shot after their court case, with no consideration for the rights and freedoms of the citizen, it costs more money to execute someone than to lock them up for life. The only way you can justify the death penalty is by admitting you’re so desperate to kill guilty people that you’re willing to kill innocent people in the process. Be willing to explain to the families of innocent folks killed by the state why you think the ritual sacrifice of their loved one was, despite being completely unnecessary, justified.

I don't know the case, but if someone is punched it is merely luck if they are injured seriously or even die. In which case should someone really be given a different sentence if the victim ends up with a black eye or dead. You are essentially sentencing based on luck, and that makes little sense. Other countries use prison a lot less than the UK and have better outcomes. Use the money to tackle poverty, addiction and whatever else to reduce the chances that people will turn to crime. People advocating tougher sentences are part of the problem, by promoting strategies that we know fail, they are essentially creating new victims of crime.

If sentences fitted the crimes it might help. Life should be life, not 15+years, prison life should be a lot harder, rehabilitation and education for certain crimes.

That doesn’t work. If it did a country like Saudi Arabia wouldn’t have much crime. Also we shouldn’t want to be like Saudi Arabia in the first place

@@coreyc1685How do you know it doesn't work ? Life meaning life perhaps would ,didn't mention death penalty, stoning etc ? So why mention Saudi Arabia ?

How about throwing them criminals to some hungry lions or crocodiles like they used to do in ancient times lol that'll do it!
